Dux Eik's sneak peak for Mailfechten longsword class 1.25.2025
มุมมอง 132หลายเดือนก่อน
This longsword kata is used against a right handed sword and shield opponent. It can be used in other places as well on the rattan side. In a C&T combat,, its used less frequently but against any armed foe, though quicker footwork to void with range is necessary, and its a gamble in any case. This was developed primarily for the Rattan waster combat list!

A quick question. Where did you pick-up your 'clamp stand'? I like the idea of being able to set up weapon to use in conjunction with my pell.
Look up bike stands for maintenance. Got mine on Amazon
Name it after someone who it works very very well against ... or whomever has the best reaction when you first use it on 'em!
The cut with the "short" edge is nice!
thx,, I use them more and more,, especially against fighters using weapons other then longswords.
@@eikbrandrsolgyafi6615 I can see that working well!
Great videos! I was going to comment on your last one that I often wait for the parry, but here you are explaining it!
Thank you for doing these vids. Are there any drills you do without an opponent?
Man. I REALLY wish I could make the trip to Cleftlands on Wednesdays.
Thanks for these. It is probably easier for me to watch you as a rightie and think of it is as a mirror image.
Glad to hear that!
You are one of few people who want to help Lefties. ;)
In the other video, why did you not recommend blocking high with the X?
2 reasons. a- If done to slow, the X parry will just guide the spear into your face, never a good option. b- By holding the X guard a bit higher than center, the spear fighter never goes for the high neck/face thrust thus making the guard nullify the attack, and you can know better where the thrust is going to go.
very nice thank you. I'm building 2 dane ax now for norman fighting.
Thank you Eik for explaining how to change the grip on the go. Not enough videos on Thibault in action, round here…
Great job! 🦊
Good stuff!
More in works!
I understand what I was assuming about the 6-10 kata. You say in here they're not combos but pauses between cuts. For Kata 8 it's K2 - pause - K5.
It's really tricky with a knuckle bow - especially with gloves on.
Well done indeed! Wassail from Ealdormere!
Not a bad way to open a fight! It works for just about any attack to the head or torso, then immediately moves you into an advantageous position. And even if neither hit connects, you are still in a good position to aggressively push in while the opponent is possibly off balance, or at least recovering. The main thing that would need to be trained is speed for this, cause if it's too slow, a thrust could very quickly be pushed into your face. I wonder if you could add in a lean to keep your face and body safe and maybe even generate some more power for that zwerchhau cut
A step off line is a great choice too, better than a lean. I don't like to teach head leans as a kata move, instead, do the timing and technique correctly. The lean is cirtainly important if required, and should bepracticed separately so its a nomind move as needed. ;)
This cut was developed by Sir Crispin!
Is this bind from a historical manual?
It's a dui tempi parry-riposte in quarta.
Killer video 👐! Boost your stats > 'promo sm' .
Nice video.👍
I always appreciate people going over the basics like this.
Did he rip one at 1:50?
Why not an overhead strike
I like your videos 👍
Very helpful video
Interesting. As this carver, very few people use a push graver in this hammer chisel process. Thinking goes to question as to why not use already shaped HSS/carbon steel push gravers if metals being cut are softer metals, instead of having to make chisels out of squre or round stock.
I'm sure at your height and build you have a natural advantage with a 9 foot spear.
Touhou reference name
Awesome explanation sir
Looking very stout more
This is a new cut and I am doing a study to better understand it and then how to apply it best.
EArly in this video, I describe the LONG Tail guard as a back fool guard. PLease be aware of this error.
I never thought of using the false edge in that. I usually step wide and deep to get around the shield, but I can see how this is a superior option, just by considering the lines of attack and defense. Cool lata, thanks for posting.
Thx. Glad to share new ideas. Enjoy and don't hit to hard with this, make sure your foe has body armour on before using this technique against them.
That's very useful! Thank you! I'm going to look at and for more of your videos as I want to improve my great sword skills. Kieran MacRae, AEthelmearc
Glad it helped!!
Thanks for reminding me to watch this... I use the passing step all the time when I do the long D range attacks. Lived on these for MANY years. But great example to people of ranges.
It looks as though it leaves your right shoulder open.
The sword shoulder certainly opens, though not that much against a right handed swd and shd fighter. This technique would be used against a lefty, but not the attack shown. More like a step around to their left with a body or face thrust.
Thanks for taking time to show us
Well this also work with a hand axe?
Yes, it works with any weapon. A hand axe or dane axe will need to strike even more precisely since the beard could catch if extension goes past target.
That is an awesome training room you have there Eik.
Glöcke altive
Very Good danke you Mama
Hey man, thanks for sharing some of your experiences, I'm still quite new so this video is gonna help keep from every word going in one ear and out the other haha. Would you mind reviewing my cutting techning on my channel?
Sure, send me a link.

Cool integration of my initial attack then expanding on it to a withdrawing attack. Awesome!

Good Video!
I Like your version as it seems more deliberate and planned as part of a style as opposed to a ..... reaction to a bad situation, both still have their place
I will always have a butt spike on my weapons, that can have them. There is no reason we should limit our sources.
Yes I agree, I am advocating the use of a butt spike, though I was showing my preferred style.
You said a slight of a j how's it done?
Easiest to do a video to show j steps and obliques. Give me a bit to get to these.
