I can't afford to buy one of those, so I am making one myself, but I wish I could afford to just buy one. I wanted to thank you because you gave some insightful pointers in your video. Thank you!

I have the mini stand for my mini donkey, she is elderly with arthritis and my regular stand for my horse was too high & uncomfortable for her, it took my farrier several attempts to place her hoof on the horse stand, this mini works perfect for her, didn’t even know they made the mini’s until I started doing some research online, thank you

My only concern when nailing the shoe on using the hoof Jack is the possibility of a horse pulling his leg back and catching the nail into the webbing then scaring the horse and who knows what will happen next.

Look at the nose band of the rope halter. Way too low on the face. Rookie mistake.

Yeah. But that may have nothing to do with the farrier.

Thank you. Great video. I had a farrier there to trim my mustang and she was very agitated. I want to practice- correctly- for the next time so that she is more comfortable. She picks up all hooves, but was upset with anything to do with the farrier work.

Great video, thank you!! I've had six farriers and they've all pulled their legs/hooves out of comfort zone or had them raised too high so of course my horses would fight back. Started trimming them myself (two drafts, one appaloosa/paint cross) and NO standing or playing footsy issues. My girls would of course fight for their legs as pain responses. Finding a good farrier is impossible to find in MN Twin Cities and now that I live in remote WI. Had to take measures into my own hands. Been on year two and zero issues at all. Even with my yearling.

I cringe watching him nail shoes onto the hoof. (I've been successfully trimming my horses' feet using a natural method for nearly 20 years) but he's absolutely correct about the value of the HoofJack hoof stand, which makes life much, much easier on both the horse and the farrier.

Thank you SO MUCH for this video! I'm going through farrier school right now and my school teaches the traditional way of holding hooves but I dont have the muscle tone to squat for that long yet while fighting very fidgety horses. I think these holding tips will help a lot with the squirrely horses I regularly practice on :)

My son is a equine science student in a high school right now. He has hypotonia aka low muscle tone. When trying to pick out the hooves, he says he has trouble with the weight of the lower leg and his back kills him. Would using a hoof jack work better for him? Thanks.

I've used one on my own horses for about 7 years, and have nothing but good things to say about it. It allows the animal to support its own weight so I don't have to, and I've never tripped over it. Fifty years is a long time. . . I guess old habits die hard.

every time I hire a ferrier that doesn't use one I end up feeling short changed by the work.. The two good ferriers I love use them so IDK if that's an indication or something just an observation

How do you know? Have you ever used one? If not, don't even bother speaking your meaningless opinions. I see many great farriers use them, and I have one they work just fine! Horses enjoy them more too, it's less claustrophobic and feels more stable to them

    • @slimlinebond

Sandy I could not agree more , people don't realise that a good farrier is adjusting his body all the time while under the horse ,feeling the mood as it were, because they are slight adjustments they don't necessarily look obvious . Stands don't make adjustments .

I've had one for 7 years and have never tripped over it. From my perspective, it supports the animal's weight, making it easier on both of us. I did have to get over my old preconceptions and give it a chance, however.

well i am happy with this hoofjack because now my mule loves to give up her feet on her own hight instead of the hight of people and now she's relaxed when working on her feet because way to many times farriers pick up the legs and hooves to high at all times.

Im in farrier school right now. i avoided buying one if these because i wanted to learn without one but I'm going to get one in the morning. Being nearly six feet tall I've been getting resistance from the horses and having trouble getting low enough. My instructors are old school so they didn't suggest it or teach me how to use one so I'm glad these videos are available. thanks for the demo!
