How does stack work in a CPU? Why do we need it?
มุมมอง 10K2 ปีที่แล้ว
There might be simple errors and the scheme I talk is extremely simple. However my aim is showing how the registers are updated and saved in the stack.

    the stack is not necessary at all. I am am assembly lang programmer on IBM mainframes for over 50 years, and they never had a stack, no need for it and all its useless instructions. In fact they have 16 general purpose registers, use them as you wish, no special registers either, you can do math in ANY of the registers, not just one register. These types of CPUs limit a programmer, whereas IBM does not. when i was developing on an 8080 CPU an encountered a stack i thought how silly and limiting this was. Stack pointers are unnecessarily complicated for something so useless

And now I see a video on how to repair a coffee machine, and there are other interesting videos that are not computer related! So I repeat my question. Who are you, sir! 🙂

    Fantastic explanation. But where does the text segment fits in all this?

    • @0x20d
      @0x20d 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I assume you mean the text segment in your assembly file? If so, the text segment holds your instructions. In case of this example that would be j=j+k (or EAX <- EBP -4 and EBX <- EBP - 6 and the corresponding ADD instruction for actually adding the numbers).

    • @user-hk4cu5go9c
      @user-hk4cu5go9c 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The text segment is a memory segment of a process which contains the instructions of that process. Thus, the IP points to instructions in the text segment which, when pointing to functions being called, invokes function stack frames to be created on the stack (and hence the increment/decrement of the stack pointer). Hope that makes sense, assuming I've understood your question correctly lol.

    can someone explain me , the foo() function in the white diagram is the instruction there and foo stack frame , a stack is created for foo function inside there variables are stored and after it is successfully loaded it will CPU will start executing foo function Am I right ? If wrong please explain me

    • @user-hk4cu5go9c
      @user-hk4cu5go9c 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, you are correct. Once the foo() function has finished executing on the CPU, the stack pointer is incremented to a higher memory address back to the top of main's stack frame and foo's stack frame is popped off. Remember, the stack pointer gets INCREMENTED because the stack grows downards towards lower memory addresses, hence any stack frames being popped cause the pointer to point to the previous stack frame's HIGHER memory address.

    AsSelam alykum wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh brother...I just purchased my Beko 6 weeks ago from amazon and it was working just good masha Allah .... yet the other day, I felt a bit curious (like usual 😁) and told myself: does it heat water? Then I just put water and the machine had like a brain stoke lol. So I turned it off, and been using it for a few days and was fine. Now I noticed that once the coffee is done, the red and white color at the same time ON, and doesn't want to release the pot! I had to pull cable from the wall to turn it OFF to release my pot (you feel me bro, it is morning time and I needed my daily dose of Turkish coffee lol). Anyways, do you think there is something wrong with my machine, do I have to fix something? Any thoughts! Jazak Allah khayr

    • @stablemechanic5629
      @stablemechanic5629 ปีที่แล้ว

      It sometimes happens to us. The best you can do is clean the inside of the machine with a damp cloth, the place where you put the pot. Sometimes the coffee accumulated there makes the sensors act weird.
