Good morning, Jim, I do so enjoy these walks with you, and they did inspire me to start taking morning walks. I have to say, my days have been so much more enjoyable after starting them with a nice walk. you have given me the best advice ever. Thank You so much. Dwayne
@@dwaynestewart6095 thank you Dwayne. Yes my friend, walking is super therapy.
good afternoon, Jim. I watched you series on Sicily, and now this. These are very special to me. You see, my wife was born in Catania and it just so happened that on November 20 1963 my wife was born and near to that mount Etna erupted and I understand that they consider that special. I've never been there but thanks to your wonderful videos , I've gotten a chance to see things that I would never have had the chance to see. Thank you my friend. Dwayne

good morning, Jim. Even with the bad weather, that was a beautiful walk. It was a smart decision to end it early. with the mud and saturated ground, you could easily slip and end up with an injury that you have to suffer through to get back. It's just not worth it. I really do enjoy coming along with you no matter how long or short the walks are. Dwayne
@@dwaynestewart6095 thank u Dwayne. I rarely cut my walks short but on this occasion, it was a smart decision and the last 30 mins would be on high altitude territory and steep cliffs etc. Thank you once again for your comments and interest.
What make of walking boots would you recommend for Irish hill walking
@@johnoconnor1026 hi John. Thank you for your interest and contact. I walk huge distances and in all weather. I’ve used many makes and brands of boots been honest. But, in my opinion, and without reservation, I thoroughly recommend you buy Zamberlan 1996 Vioz LUX GTX RR hydrobloc waxed Brick coloured or in black. They are hugely expensive and around €379 a pair. Hand made and rather heavy and needs a lot of breaking-in. Thoroughly check your size and fitting John as these can be smaller in size. Go for a size-up. I love these boots and they are a professional boot for all walking scenarios. They are Italian and are made by hand in Italy since 1926. So if u are a serious walker, I stress, serious walker, u will not go wrong. I’ve tried many. Brands and I’ll never depart from Zamberlan. Could I ask u to subscribe to my channel please? Jim
God bless you Jim.
Hi and thank you Polly. 😍❤
Thanks for this, Jim. I grew up on the east coast of Scotland, and my parents would take us all (7 children) over to West Cork most summers. We went to Sherkin at least once each visit, and spent long days on the sandy beach. If we were very lucky, we'd get a lift back to the harbour on a tractor! You've brought back some lovely memories, as well as sharing the history of Sherkin. God bless you.

Did the ferry show up 🚢😂😂😂😂
That was another great walk on long island Jim. Its a beautiful island, and it's a shame to see those abandoned houses and vehicles. Just curious, but who owns that property , like that school house that was just let go? Dwayne
@@dwaynestewart6095 hi Dwayne. Thank u for liking and commenting. The school house is owned by somebody who bought it some years ago. There are cottages for sale on the island as far as I can determine. It’s a lovely quiet island. Thank u 🙏🚶🏻🚶🏻
Often steamed around it but only one landing. Knew the families that resided there & they were all great seamen who travelled the world on merchant ships & fished the south west coast. But life ashore was more convienent & the island was left to the treekers like yourself. Keep 'er Lit.

Hi Jim, I am researching the SDW. You mentioned in this video that you ran into a couple of guys looking for trouble, but you managed to send them packing. Can you elaborate on what happened and do you think this would be safe for a woman to walk alone? Thank you Jim. I look forward to watching the rest of the series!
Hi Kristin. Thank you for looking at my videos on SDW. Let me assure you, that it’s extremely safe to walk it. My incident was early on my first days trek and in the outskirts of Cashel. They presented on a back road out of the town but they were focusing on my camera gear, I think? But I’m not a guy to mess with in situations like that, so a few words were passed and that was it finished. So, you are going to be very safe on your SDW and you’ll enjoy it big time. 🙏🚶🏻🚶🏻
I am looking into walking the five stages of St Declan’s Way. Can I ask where you stayed in each area? It seems that there isn’t much in Cahir and expensive. Any advice is appreciated.

The British New what they were doing never be forgotten 😡💔
Yes indeed. British brutality.
I was on the blasket islands when i was a child. It was amazing. We hunted rabbits and ate them, we fished, we swam and there was a community living there. I think all the people living there are gone.
Yes NeddyBoy. The island is now uninhabited. I love it there. Thank you for subscribing. 🙏🚶🏻🙏🚶🏻
@@jimowers3690 hi, I don't know why they say the island has been uninhabited since the 50's though. I was there in the 80's as a child and my aunt and uncle lived there with a small community.
When I was there last year, I met the couple who maintain the place over the Summer months and they informed me that nobody lives permanently now.
What a fabulous piece of film you put together, deserves a sub.

You can almost hear the cries and feel the pain...so so sad.
Hi and thank you for getting in touch. Yes, much pain, suffering, brutality, oppression and murder.
We are victims and perpetrators. So many Irish moved to the US and took the lands of the native Americans. There are no videos about that because it is too complex to explain.
There can be documentaries made and produced about that issue if only people took it upon themselves to undertake and research it. I am highlighting the plight of Irish peasants during the Great Hunger. No issue is too complex to document in this day & age.
@@jimowers3690 my point is that it is not possible to see any event in isolation, or that any group is a victim. The Irish migrant inflicted a holocaust on the Native American. The holocaust continues right now. The Irish travel the world now as the richest in Europe, trashing the local environment and using the native populations on slave wages to clean their toilets and cook for them. The Irish were also slave traders in their time as well. You don’t have to mention any of this though.
Hi and thank you Dwayne. All you say, I fully agree with you. But, have we learned over time from all the atrocities that were perpetrated against all unfortunate people? I don’t think so. Inequality is rife and persecution is still evident. Thank you Dwayne and if u so wish, pass-on the Famine video please. More people need to know what happened here in the Great Hunger. Ty. Jim
good morning Jim, that was a great but very sad video. it was a dark time in history and just goes to show the way the rich use the trouble of the less fortunate to their advantage and the lack of human compassion to the needs of the poor. it really is sad . but we should never forget those times because if we do not learn from the past we will be forced to relive it in the future and the state of the world now is becoming scary for many people. Dwayne
