Is Wednesday Addams a Psychopath?
🎬 Welcome to my mini-series, Psychology on Screen!
💀 With her all-black attire and morbid interests, it's easy for people to pin Wednesday Addams as a Psychopath, but is that an appropriate psychological term for her?
🧠 So today, let's discuss what Psychopathy ACTUALLY is, and whether our favourite member of the Addams Family actually fits that mould...

    I was a lesbian who thought I had no choice but to compromise and be with a man. I became the ultimate girl, in shape, always positive, on my own buzz and let husband do whatever he liked without complaining. I developed anorexia, became debilitatingly ill for years . He was a serial cheater who neglected me, I could not heal because I was too sick to work and could not buy the nutrition I needed. He did not get the nutrition I needed either. Starving and ill for years. I had to pretend I was okay because he did not like me talking about my illness. I had to be susie sunshine. When you get that ill you dont care any more. All you want is your health. I no longer cared about societal expectations which got me to finally confront my sexuality.

    I think all the makeup trends and filters on top of heavy makeup has pushed a lot of this as well. Its easier than ever to still look fresh skinned and healthy. Despite actually being in pretty rough shape. When I've dropped down to underweight territory from stress (bad breakups mostly) or becuase of audden health concerns, I've usually also looked pretty haggard. When the situation and my health got better I still had a very tired look about me. Even if I didnt look quite as haggard I still didnt have the fresh faced or even flushed look. Not until my weight got back up to the upper levels of normal BMI. I am at my most energetic when I am somwhere at or right above the "normal" BMI level.

      I absolutely love this reflection and I couldn’t agree more. Masking with makeup, tan, injectables, and even surgery like ‘boob jobs’ or steroids is becoming an increasingly common way for people to mask their physical symptoms! I see this often with “fitness influencers”.

    I have only watched Gilmore Girls and the reboot once, as an adult. I did not really care for it and couldn't understand why people were so obsessed. Do they choose to overlook that or are they actually unaware?

    I do agree with your conclusion about Emily. I remember Lorelai saying to someone that her mother is a corporate wife, and Emily compares her relationship to a canoe when Richard is still recovering from a heart attack. Once Richard passes away, Emily realises that everything she did was part of her marriage. As she says, walking out of the DAR meeting, "it died with Richard." ❤

      @ruthmicallef I also like the conversation that Emily and Lorelai have at the mall food court when Emily overhears her daughter on the phone with her contractors for the new inn. Emily comments that she likes seeing her daughter in control and Lorelai responds "well I learned from observing the best", Emily (unaware asks who) and Lorelai replys "the women who's eating a hamburger with a knife and fork". I think this gives Emily a moment of feeling seen. Whilst I didn't like her trying to control aspects of other people's lives, I could see it as the side of her personality, which is ambitious. I think she is an example of a time when women were expected to get an education but ultimately give it to for raising a family. Had Emily been given the opportunity I'd have no doubt that she would've taken the corporate world by storm.

    Lorelai was not the mother that Rory needed, she acted more like a hateful big sister and always victimised herself but when Rory didn’t something wrong she would flip out because ‘that’s not like her’ but it is typical of the both of them because they merged into each other. Rory had a gradual deterioration of her character and I think Lorelai was angry at herself for creating that but in the end the cycle could continue because Rory is pregnant with Logan’s baby even though she had a fiance ( who she cheated on constantly ).

    • @ruthmicallef
      @ruthmicallef 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

I'm glad that Emily in AYITL is finally working on herself and independence without Richard. Rory in her 30s was a huge mess, which it does make sense because she doesn't have any strong connections that relates to her career and have a poor self sense and decisions in life.

    I also found Rory’s character on the show to be privileged and sheltered as her grandparents came from old money despite being raised by a single parent household and that of being a teen mom as well. It was good seeing her have ties and receiving some guidance from her grandparents while also maintaining a close relationship with her mother. I would also add their mother daughter relationship was a bit more casual like the mother was more of a friend/ needing to be liked than a parent at times to Rory on the show. Overall Rory was also just a good kid that stayed out of trouble and seemed honest.
