Leah and I met at a SXSW show we were both performing at in Spiderhouse Ballroom. We both did a violin looping set and our friends from Texas and Minneapolis said, "yall should totally know each other, you guys do the same thing!" I striked up the conversation that i liked her equipment. We spoke about our musical influences and she said her other band We are Willows were performing later that night so i should stick around. I did and it was awesome. She reminded me of friends from orchestra in high school who were classically trained as I, but she has a internal style that was sparkling. At the time there wasnt many violin loopers performing so it was nice to be in good company. I told her i was going to tour with Luke Redfield in Minneapolis soon and she should come. She was really nice and I am just devestated. I felt like we were twins that met in a alternate universe. I really wished I got to hang out with her more. I complained I wanted to leave texas for years but i couldnt because i was still in college. I loved how she was encouraging. RIP Leah Ottman.😭
