We take the Brompton to Devon & Cornwall.
It's November 2024, it's a special birthday for Sparky and Rafferty, so we're taking a road trip to Devon and Cornwall. Who knows where we'll end up? What I do know, however, is the Brompton is coming with me. I'm bound to find somewhere to sneak in a ride or two.

The sun is out, we have a day off work, the dog needs a walk and I have to take my M6L with me on a visit to Barmouth in North Wales. Come along on the ride. You'll be surprised at what crosses the via duct and I'm sure you've all played the game I play, when the pedestrians are in a world of their own!
A BROMPTON TOUR OF SHREWSBURY UK EP. 2 SHUTS AND ALLEYWAYS

Today, I take another trip through my home town on my Switch powered M6L raw lacquer Brompton. Shrewsbury is a small market town, close to the Welsh border. Not only do we have a multitude of Tudor buildings, but we also have a rabbit warren of shuts, alleyways and passages. You asked for me, so you've got it.

Those who are familiar with our channel may have seen us completing this route before. However, this was our first attempt at the journey, which we completed back in 2022. Apologies for the misleading 'Campervan Habitude' moniker. This vlog was originally released on our sister channel which focuses on our love of camper vans a little more than our Bromptons. Anyway, if you haven't seen it befo...

Brompton in Manhattan - A New York Surprise Ep. 3

Join us on our last two days in NYC. We really didn't expect to see what we saw in Central Park and our last days cycling in Manhattan was possibly our best. I also got to try out another Brompton. It's just a shame I couldn't take it home!

Following on from EP. 1, it was the day of the surprise. The rain fell, the Brompton was out early morning, and I was able to take in the lights of Time Square with little or no disruption. The surprise went well and we all had a blast before we resumed to our Brompton excursion around downtown NY followed by a smidge of Brooklyn.

A TRIP TO BATTERSEA WITH SURPRISES ALONG THE WAY!

Episode two of our trip to London for a spot of Brompton touring. Our final day sees us cycling down to Battersea for a jaunt around Battersea Park before venturing to the repurposed power station. On our way back to the hotel, I suffer a possible near miss at the hands of a cycle jacker and T takes a tumble when a couple of pedestrians fail to notice the cycle lane, before we make our way thro...
A Brompton Tour around London
มุมมอง 10K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
Four like minded Brompton riders take a 40k trip around London, taking in the sights of the city and learning a bit about capital during the journey.
Lovely video - would you say your Swytch kit has been a success? I’ve heard very different opinions and would like to hear yours, either for or against.
Many thanks. To be honest, I wasn't too keen on the Switch kit initially. But I am starting to like it a bit more these days. I had to wait a good six months for it to arrive and then the instructions were wrong, as the battery had to be fitted facing the seat. I find the battery will cut out at times, usually when I'm going up hill. I'm told it's because it's pedal assist and the cadence of the pedal must be kept up to assist the battery. That said, I would expect assistance up hills from the battery, if ever at all! On low inclines and flat roads, it's fine. It'll get you up to 15 mph, no problem. I lent it to someone who also took a battery powered Brompton for a test ride and she said the Swytch kit was better. So, who knows. One final point, mines the largest battery and I believe it's supposed to be good for around 30 miles. I usually ride mine to work - around 4 miles each way. I find the battery will run on half way home on the second day if I don't charge it. Therefore, I'd say the range is good for around 12 to 14 miles. Hope that helps. Cheers. Mal.
great vid! How did you mount your camera?
That's very good of you to say. I think I had my friction arm attached to my handlebars, which I swapped to my seat post at times. I'm not sure of the brand as I've had it for years. But there plenty of friction arms with clamps on the market. Cheers.
Would have liked to watch the whole video but the terrible music was so irritating I just had to switch off!
😆 I can't say I blame you!
Very nice video and very nice city :) I was there as a kid and I would love to see it again with my own Brompton. Thank you for sharing and for the great photography and interesting comments. It just makes me want to travel back there :) David
And thank you for your kind comments. Stay safe. Mal.
Your VW plate anagrams to CHPT3…. Brompton reference or coincidence?
Yep, as sad as it may seem, it is a Brompton reference. However, not many people realise. In fact, you're the first to mention it, so thanks for spotting it! Cheers for watching and commenting too. 👍
👌
I keep thinking about getting a Brompton as a back up/get on a bus/get on a plane bike. barmouth is one of my favourites, Lovely stuff :)
You have to do it. I have had many a bike, but the Brompton is a different breed and would be ideal for you and your bimbles.
WOW!!! What a beautiful place!
Hi Fatima, yes, we absolutely love the place.
Watching this made me wish I never sold my Bromie. The most brilliant bike design ever. Had back issues then, but ok now. I enjoyed watching you guys meander through the streets of London. Did you have to take your courage pills before heading out? I couldn’t see myself riding those roads. It’s bad enough here in the US, but London takes the prize for riding “The Danger Zone”. By the way, did those women apologize for their stupidity? The situation could have been much worse than it was.
It sounds like it's time for you to buy another Brompton. The M bar is far less forgiving if you have back issues. I have had issues in the past so I know what you mean. Yes, riding London is fantastic. We like to spend time riding there when we can. You may have seen us riding our Bromptons in New York too. That was just a brilliant experience and one I'm hoping to fulfil in the very near future - watch this space. We did get a brief apology from the girls, and as you say, it could have been a whole lot worse. Thanks for commenting and make sure you get out on a Bromie again soon. Cheers. Mal.
Really enjoyed that! I often take my Brompty with me to London from Scotland - I've ridden parts of your route - but next time, inspired by your video, I shall cover the entire distance.
Hi Peter, thanks for watching and commenting. There's so many interesting parts of London to cycle. I'm desperate to get back there soon. In the meantime, I'll post a few more other excursions elsewhere. Glad the video offered some inspiration. Cheers. Mal.
Great video
Very good and also an education of my old town thanks Mal
No problem, Mike. Thanks for your contribution.
I have been to Shrewsbury and would love to come back to cycle here ! thank you for sharing!!!
Not a problem at all. I'm glad I've inspired you to revisit. Make sure you watch, 'A Brompton Tour of Shrewsbury EP 2 Shuts and Alleyways.' Cheers. Mal.
looks great ! Looking forward to it :)
That's always good to hear and makes the effort of recording all worth while. We have a few vlogs out now, so please enjoy. Cheers. Mal.
😆Yes maybe the route I took is impossible by car. But rest assured, you can get around the town to a degree. Once again thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers. Mal.
Beautiful and interesting... and impossible by car. 🚲
From Barcelona. Love the way you describe and comment on the places you go. Gorgeous city Shrewsbury. Waiting for your european trips.
Kind words, thanks so much. Yes, hopefully making our way over the channel early November. Not sure where we'll end up, but looking forward to it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Cheers. Mal.
Fantastic tour of a beautiful town
Many thanks for watching and a special thanks for commenting. Cheers. Mal.
WOW. Muy buena edición. Muestras una ruta por Londres muy bonita e interesante para hacer. Me gustan mucho los vídeos así, con un ciclista delante de la cámara. 👍
When in London I sadly missed The Cutty Sark, as a close to be sailor. But I would love to know some more Brompton owners here in Denmark, for a common suffering, but sadly I am the only one I know! Finn. Denmark
It's a lovely vessel, Finn. You'll have to put it on your list of things to visit next time... if there is a next visit planned that is.
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in As now 76 and with a Handicapped wife I doubt I will come back? We have both visited and - she lived in London, but sadly, no. The one exception is if a Danish Company makes a trip involving The Tank Museum, which I would love to visit! I have seen the similar German Museum in Munster, but only with an "Airfix Tiger", 1/1. Finn
In which case, I'll try and get some more London vlogs out there so you can watch and your wife can see if she recognises and old places. Cheers Finn.
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I do try to watch near all Brompton related stuff I'm able to find!! Finn
Yes, small wheeled bikes suffer on cobbles 😂 My Brompton and Strida have 16"
It's a pain I'm willing to accept in the pursuit of riding a Brompton. Cheers for watching and commenting.
Are you members of the Facebook group London Brompton Club?
Hi, yes, I am. Although I don't really post on FB too much. 👍
Very cool. What's the name of the band?
Cheers, we thought so too. The band are called The Losing Score. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Really nice footage of London. Enjoyed seeing those Bromptons whizzing around like that. Good bikes for people using various kinds of mass transportation systems with a bicycle in tow. Am sure there’ are many other reasons to own a folding bike.
Yes, the carriage within transport, as mentioned, is a clear advantage. However, the design of the bike itself is a huge selling factor too. Due to the long seat post, they can be ridden by adults and children alike, the small wheels allow the bike to travel without effort between vehicles far more effectively that cycles with larger wheels, the design has hardly changed in the last four decades which encourages owners to stick with their bikes instead of upgrading to far newer models. It's also ideal to be able to carry your bike into shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants to allow you peace of mind that your bike won't be stolen. In short, great bikes to own. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Looks a promising channel 😊
Cheers Lewis. That's always good to hear.
As the single Brompton rider around here, I would have loved to know a group of similar sufferers, as a Brompton is a hard rolling monstrosity, when being used! Its one purpose and what it is the best for, is transport as folded. I have searched my wifes Facebook account, but it doesn't seems that any groups have been founded in Denmark, for me to join?
Where did you put your bikes while in the power station
Hi, when we entered we were told we could only bring the bikes in if we folded them. So, we folded them and ensured someone was with them at all times. As soon as you enter, you'll find yourself inn a large open area at the top of a flight of stairs and that's were we kept them. The ladies went off together and me and Tone stayed with the bikes most of the time.
I don't care to be talked at via teleprinter effect, thank you. Two minutes of that was two minutes too much. [Clicks away]
Crikey. That's mean. Bromptoners are usually nice.
I’m hoping to bring my Brompton to London in 2025, riding around a bit before heading over to the Netherlands. How often is that bike jacking threat a thing in London?
Hi, you'll love it. The Brompton is designed for the city and you won't be disappointed. To be honest, I've never had any similar bike jacking experience in any city and certainly don't feel nervous riding around London. That said, you do need to be careful of your surroundings wherever you ride. I'd be surprised if the 'bike jacker' tried to take anything from me in that area. I guess he was following me to see what opportunity became available. Best of luck and enjoy.
Lovely video just can’t get enough of scenes of a Brompton biking through the English towns and countryside. Question: it looks like you have the IKEA bag that is popular among Brompton owners, do you feel comfortable slinging it around your shoulder and feel it strong enough, not to have the Bromton wear -through? Obviously, but, if you could just describe how well this works and how long you think the bag will last?
That's nice to hear. I'm currently planning my next vlog, which will show me cycling through my home town, which is a small market town with some great history. The Ikea bag is very cheap but very robust. It's comfortable to carry and it feels as if it will last for a long time yet. Please note, we're only carrying the P line and the CHPT3 in them though. So they weight less than 10 kilos each. Thanks for watching and commenting.
It's odd seeing that Covid memorial at the end, considering the hospitals were empty.
You guys love your jeans man. 🥰
😂 I hadn't even noticed that in the vlog before. I can't answer for the others, but I don't wear jeans too often. That said, they are very easy to pack. Cheers for watching.
HINT………Carry a can of ‘Deep Heat’ spray, for any aches and pains, be very careful NOT TO GET IT IN YOUR EYES
Not a bad idea at all. Cheers.
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in you get where I’m coming from, don’t you?
Absolutely. I'm guessing it's not for my use! 😆
False advertising! As a little more than Standard Size Dane I'm not - at all able to put my Brompton in my B&W black box, without taking it mostly apart!! And if so, all bikes are "Folding Bikes"! The only way I may do it with out, is to use a Telescope Post, which will near double the weight of my now, well below 9 kilo, and much former than 2019 SuperlightM6LXBrompton (All Danish Bromptons are delivered with a 600mm Post, as Standard, without extra payment, for our Sins (and mudguards, as Danes)! And it won't fit inside a B&W box) 😄. And do protect your frames against scratches during Folding! I did gave my - New Brompton a full Auto Polish as a first, and found out that after two or three folds, one clear tape "Protection" had been near worn through to the paint!! And the Chinese Export rose with several % after finding this out, and building a new "Brompton Protection Plate, Industry" from that! In all colors and materials! Finn. Denmark
Hi Finn, now I'm very confused! However, that's not an unusual state to be in these days. It must be my age. On this occasion, however, I'm confused at the fact that you cannot get your Brompton into a B&W case without a certain amount of dismantling. I am 6'3" so find the standard post far too short. As such, I currently have three Bromptons, all of which have longer than standard seat posts fitted. My M6L has a 580mm Bromptification post, and my CHPT3 V2 and my P-Line have 600mm posts fitted. As you will see from the New York vlog, both my CHPT3 and my P-Line fit in the cases with just the need to remove the seat. I'm guessing there's only one size B&W case? 🤔 Thanks for watching and commenting BTW.
...in fact, I'm so confused, I'm going home to measure my Brompton tonight!
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I tried to put it into my B&W box (The Black Luggage version on wheels. I think they have made it a little larger, but not much?). And it didn't fit with my long seat post without being removed - sadle off and out from the bottom!! For now I use a Black Titanium Standard Length, 535mm post with a turned below saddle clamp, and I do hope that this may enable it to be put inside? I just pull it out to full length. But as a Heavy Dane (Not a Great Dane!) I punch it down during rides, so it isn't that effective! I will try some friction paste though? Finn
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I admit, it may have been enough to remove the sadle, but for a good measure, I removed both!! Finn
@@BromptonHabitude-fe1in I still find having to remove my saddle too much for a named, Folding Bike! I may have been able to leave my post in the bike, but I didn't try that! I did remove my post also. By that I'm 76 and my dear wife complains about my lack of memory, near every day! And I am a little past 6" as 184cm. Finn. Denmark
Brakes - NOT Breaks. Totally different!
Oh yeah. Dooh! 😆
Could do without that monotonous background noise - it isn’t needed.
Please speak! A commentary would add SO SO much to a great video.
Hi John thanks for watching and commenting. I do try add some commentary to some vlogs here and there, but I will take your advice and try and add a bit more. Thanks once again. Mal.
Did not see much of an accident!
No. It was just a tumble.
it's called "Click bait"!
Actually your wife had the correct terminology. We say "getting on the train", rather than "getting on the subway" here in NY. I like your brommie vlogs.
I will let her know. She'll be overjoyed with that! 😆I'm glad you enjoy the vlogs. More to follow. Thanks for watching. Mal.
I noticed that on one way street, you are riding on the left side. Just like home. I tend to do the same too.
A lot of the time I do it without realising, which isn't healthy! 😬It can be very confusing too, particularly on the larger roads where locals seem to ride both sides. It's all good fun though. Thanks for watching.
Me ha gustado el vídeo y, especialmente, los últimos minutos, desde el 18:51. 👍
Sí, explorar Time Square en bicicleta es increíble. Aunque lo prefiero temprano en la mañana. Gracias por ver.
I like your Brompton's attitude.
Many thanks!
Thought he was having your brompton for a minute then 😢
I think he thought he was having my Brompton too. Gotta be careful out there. Thanks for watching. Safe cycling.
Buena edición, buen vídeo. 👍
Muchas gracias. Gracias por ver.
I used to work in London Custom House and sang Christmas Carols in All Hallows-by-the-Tower in 2016. Subbed. ❤
Ahh, passed that church on many an occasion but never ventured in. Great location. Thanks so much for commenting and subbing. I'm sure there will be more London content soon. Cheers.
I loved it, thank you for sharing these beautiful bike rides 😊👍🚴💫

Thank you so much for the positive comments. They are very much appreciated. I highly recommend riding a Brompton around London.
