Cool instrument! I've long wanted the low-brass equivalent, a double-bell euphonium. I had no idea there was a trumpet version. The martinshorn you showed is a reed instrument.
you sound beautiful
Brilliant performance! ❤
Thank you!
thank you
You're welcome
The 2nd Bell points up at a 45 degree angle so you get a splash of Gillespie
Adolphe Sax made a 7 Bell Calvary trombone
Oh cool I didn’t know that!!
How do you control whether you get a 3rd or a 5th?
Since the split-tones are played using adjacent overtones, I just make sure that the overtones I want are sounding. Generally I use the upper note as the reference, so a split tone on the middle G will give me the C below (the fifth). The rest is just practice :)
Seems kinda gimmicky? What's the purpose?
I thought so too at first, but I think it adds a new dimension to the trumpet allowing for some unique color changes that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. It’s certainly not necessary for every piece of music.
This is a really interesting and useful video. What would be cool is to have 8 trumpets playing like that. What a cool sound. The only thing is the sounds are so quiet they could only useful in very special contexts.
I do play in a trumpet octet (Monochrome Project) so this would certainly be possible! Someone just needs to write a piece. You’d be surprise how well this sound carries in a resonant space.
That's good to know. @@nathanplante993
That helps a lot!!!!!!Thank you!!!!!🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤😢😢😢
Very glad you find this helpful!
Bravo!
Thanks!
Bobby Shew played and recorded on a Bb double-bell trumpet (he called it the "Shewhorn") in the 1980s: th-cam.com/video/f6ayD4yjUQk/w-d-xo.html
2:00 me too yes definetely!
Wow, excellent advice!
Very interesting! And beautiful intro as well!
Thank you. What an excellent demonstration of extended techniques!
great (and funny) video!
Very interesting and informative.
Very useful, thank you! Now I can write as many of quarter tones for the trumpet as I like :)
There is the 13 bell trumpet Adolphe Sax created
I wanna see it
It just sounds like a bunch of conceptual noises. I wouldn’t classify this as music. I’m sure the performance is masterful but it’s just not pleasant to listen to. It’s like if you taught a 5 year old how to mark sheet music.
Where can I get the score? very good!
The score is available at Edition Peters. Glad you enjoyed it!
thank you for this series! all 4 videos are amazing and inspiring!
You're very welcome! I hope to continue the series at some point this year.
will be looking forward! And thank you for introducing the double bell trumpet! It's a really beautiful instrument! I will consider using it in my composition! Regards
That's what I need to know as a composer, many thanks!!
That's pretty sick dude! I'm not a trumpet player but I play a lot of other instruments
I got to this through a different trumpet video. The thumbnail was too intriguing not to click, checked your subscribers and was quite surprised by that and the views. Really great explanation excelent examples (The tremolo was my favourite one). Really good video with a noticably large amount of effort put it. Sat through the entrire thing even though i dont play trumpet or any other instrument currently. It was just too interesting not to watch to the end.
Thanks, I really appreciate the feedback!
Did Ivan Hunter build a quarter tone trumpet for you?
The quarter tone valve was made by Lukas Schmidt in Potsdam. I've never heard of Ivan Hunter, I will check him out!
Ivan Hunter Jaeger Brass Now based in Germany
What is that THING ?
Lol which one?! I've got another video all about the double bell trumpet if you mean the instrument. The foliant (sculpture) is a 3D musical score that I'm interpreting. You can see more of them at Martin Daske's homepage!
@@nathanplante993 I had a feeling you'd say that ! : ) This had a smell of Naked Lunch for me. Fascinating THINGS, thanks !!
Wonderful presentation! Thank you!
Helpful video
Well, dude, this is just brilliant! I'm glad to find you.
This is a great video. Thanks
So cool! You should totally do the soundtrack for like, a creepy space horror film. Like a less racist incarnation of a Lovecraft thing.
I'm super into SciFi so I would totally love to do that! Split-Tones in Space!!
quite good ...
Thank you!
J'adore ! Bravo ! =)
Fantastic performance, bravissimo!!! and wonderful Rebecca's new piece!!!!
