the memories this plane brings.. it was in pretty bad shape back in Tegucigalpa but I am glad to see that 213 is back in the sky, or was it used for spares?

Indeed a gorgeous plane, and especially important down here in Honduras during its hayday. My dad flew the Honduran Trojans back in his basic training during 1974.

Great work all those who put their heart and soul into this special project. It remind me of the Hmong warriors who flew in Laos, Major Lee Lue.

I also flew the T-28B in VT-3 out of NAS Whiting and then the T-28C out of NAAS Saufley for Carrier Qualifications. Our Field Carrier Landing Practice (FCLP) was at NOLF Barin near Foley, AL. As with most ASW Aviators, I carqualed 5 times. The first time was in the T-28C, the second time the TS-2A in Corpus, then I got my wings in April '67, the third time in the S-2E in the RAG Squadron in Key West. Those were all daylight quals. The fourth and fifth time were in my fleet squadron VS-24 aboard the USS Randolph. Again a day qualification and then a night qualification. It's funny, but after 56 years, the one I remember the clearest was the T-28C and the USS Lexington. Went back to NAS Whiting in August 2019 to do a wings presentation to a young Marine Aviator who I saw grow up in Scouts. I thought I was just going to observe, but I was informed that I would be doing the actual winging. I had a pair of mine to present to him. When the Commander handed me the presentation pair, I slipped them into my left coat pocket and pulled out a pair of my 1967 wings and winged him with them. The Commander saw it swap and commented "Oh, Legacy Wings". Apparently it was a common thing to do.

In 2000 I had the privilege of flying Gordon Bowers's T-28 in Mechanicsville, Virginia. I also used to live at the end of the Dallas Bay runway on Clearwater rd. Lol

Great story. As a student Naval Aviator, I had the pleasure and honor of flying the T-28 in both VT-3 and VT-5. Landing on the carrier was in VT-5 flying the T-28C. I miss those days!

Did you by chance know my Dad Stuart "Sam" Cope ? He was an instructor in the T-28 at Saufley Field I can't remember but think he was in VT-5. Carl Jensen was his C.O. Then my Dad received orders and reported aboard USS America in Norfolk,VA. flying the Grumman C-1 Trader and S2F Tracker.

@@jetcom1121 Sorry, not that I recall. As you know, flying the T-28 at Saufley meant we were getting ready to hit the boat, which was a 21-hop syllabus in those days with # 21 being our date with the Lady Lex. Since, by this time, we were very comfortable in the Trojan, I had an instructor in the back seat for, at most, the first FCLP training flight. After that, everything was solo, including our trip to meet Lexie. My LSO was a laid off TWA pilot whose name I don't recall. In any case, thank your father for his service.

I thing that may be a later modification by one of the foreign owners. Never saw folding wings on either the B or C models while flying them. No reason for the USAF to fold the wings of an A model.
