Light is Shite - Budget Motorcycle Adventure - Day 1
Welcome to day 1 of Light is Shite (LISA)
Concept created by my good friend Ed (Bikereddd). The idea is to purchase and equip a roadworthy motorcycle to survive some of the toughest trails in Wales over two days with camping in between. The budget was £700 all in!
15 motorcycles set off, but will 15 motorcycles return?

Day at Enduro world on the big bikes. Pay and play. Great venue with a wide variety of terrain to suit all abilities. Tough going in sections on the bigger bikes but I'm sure the relentless weather we have had has played a big part in the conditions. Joined by Gar on his T7, Chris on his 990 and Ed on his 300EXC. The staff were friendly, welcoming and a good laugh after they told us we were pro...

Dunlop Hill- Tetty Trail- KTM 890 Adventure R

Tackling Dunlop hill. Challenging hill climb in Wales which is also on part of the Tetty trail/ Trans Euro Trail. Steep incline, loose large rocks and tight hairpin turns makes for a great challenge on a bigger bike. Having failed to conquer the hill fully loaded earlier in the year I had to return to give it another crack!

KTM 890 Adventure R - Sunday Trail Riding

Short edit of some local trails in South Wales on a Sunday afternoon. Started off dry and warm but as I head further up into the welsh hills it got a little damp. I'm still figuring out the change from GoPro to the DJI Action 3. Working on sound issues so I have decided to put music throughout this edit which I am not usually a fan of. Let me know if you have any tips for good sound on the DJI!...

Round 1 (Winter warmer) of Sweet Lambs Baja Rally series. One lap trying to keep up with @BikerEddd on a mega chill lap! My second ever race. Riding my KTM 890 Adventure r which performed flawlessly as always. The track was fast and also technical in places which made for a great 2 days riding. I found my rhythm after a couple of laps but by no means could take a couple of minutes off my lap ti...

Awesome control on such a big adventure bike! What settings did you use for this ride? Offroad or rally?
@@olityson thanks dude. My go to is usually off road 2. It doesn’t spin up as much on the climbs and wet rock in off road throttle as opposed to rally.
@@advweekender5709cheers, so much to try out when I get the R next week. Thanks for your prompt reply and keep up the impressive skills 💥💥💥
Oh another question: do you rock the original sprockets or did you tune down on a 15 front and whatever back?
@@olityson no probs dude. I’m running the same gearing as stock. But I’ve swapped the chain and sprockets to a 520 size.
I got up there without a dab on my Crf300l rally last week
Well done Laurie! What’s the next challenging lane that’s on your list?
Pump house and London Rd. I've ridden them before but I'd like a crack at them again sometime. I'm nearly sixty so tend to do the easier trails, but needs must. 11 of us in South Wales TRF did the TETTY last week, Chapel Lane is proper slippery
Check your export bitrate, the footage looks stabilized like a gopro, but compressed like a $20 dash cam. Pretty scenery tho and it looks like you had a good time.
Sorry , you gotta attack dunlop, not bimble
Hi great video, I'm just getting into trail riding do you have a gpx file for your route?
mad guy!! looks a sick ride out on that thing haha!
Cheers dude! It’s great fun
Where i can find this route?
how the hell the camera doesn't get dirty ?
Have any of the lads on the t7 got a TH-cam looking to get one an would like to check there content out cheers
Zurawskimotorsport below in the comments dude. However his T7 is highly modified. The others don’t unfortunately. T7 Enduro on instagram has some content thought dude.
Hi where is this place ?
Hey Calvin. If you search Lee Walters Off Road Training on Facebook you will find him. He does all sorts of enduro training and also has a private training area where he holds pay and play days. He’s based in Hay on Wye.
A small note, if you crash and break just the headlight on an 890R? Just the headlight is over 1200.00 US. Labor could be 300.00. These bikes can be totaled in one crash. A friend just high sided his and destroyed his shoulder, 5K damage to bike so far. Hes out for 6 months with major surgery. It aint like crashing a dirtbike.
Let’s hope I never break it dude. I’ve replaced the headlight holder twice and inner fairings 6 times. All been relatively inexpensive luckily. The bike crashes well in my opinion and the tanks are very strong and seem to take most of the force. If I did break the headlight I think I would put an exc mask on and turn it full enduro 😂
My 890 fell over in the driveway hitting the front bottom corner of the skid plate sending all the force to the rubber grommet and cracking the tank $1570 later I got a new one and replaced the skid plate with an outback Motortek
@@advweekender5709Mine has tipped over twice, once was kind of a hard landing involving a cement curb and pavement.....its been lucky so far, honestly if Im thrashing hard in the dirt Im riding something else that doesnt weight 470lbs.
@@user-ktm890riderYikes. A different skidplate will help we hope....mine just lands on the gaurds on the gas tank so far, kind of like a BMW twin on it's cylinder heads....Im not planning on tipping it over much, my DR650 went 51,000 miles with out a crash or tip over.
That looks awesome fun
Good work dude excellent Sunday morning viewing gets me fired up to go riding 🔥🔥👊👊
Thanks Jim!
Nice riding! 👏 What was the reason for turning off and on the engine at 7:55?
holy sh*t! i'm learning so much 😉. what tyres?
I’m using Michelin mediums dude.
@@advweekender5709 cool thanks! and what rims? the PP heavy duty?
No problem dude. I’m using SM Pro aftermarket wheels. 1.85 and 2.50 so I have a better choice of aggressive tyres.
@@advweekender5709 may i ask you 1 more question? since i'm more the amateur adv rider but interested in stuff like sweet lamb or valley lite (maybe), what would be your advice: is it a bad idea to think about this stuff but staying on stock rims and 150 tyres 50:50 like anakee wild? i'm not going to try to reach your pace but riding such stuff really attracts me. there is always some trouble with road legality when switching to 140 rims/tyres and i'm doing a lot of traveling where 150 is ok for me.
I’m happy to answer as many questions as you like dude. You will have no problems running the 150 rear. Still a good range of tyres to choose from that will be just fine. Friends of mine are still running the 150 and do some pretty hard stuff no problems. Motoz have a good range of tyres and the mitas e09 seems to be popular.
This was a fun video! Besides the warning light on the dash driving me nuts hahaha
You and me both dude! 😂
@advweekender5709 I have an 890, so I think it upped the anxiety level! Honestly, I was super impressed with the trails over there. I did not think riding in the UK could be both as beautiful amd difficult as you were showing.
Great seeing you overtake me.. Great vid 👌
What were you riding dude?
I was on a Husky 350. Riding pretty slowly ;)
Great ride dude.
Thanks Rich!
What happened at 15 seconds in lol
Took the wrong line 😂
@@advweekender5709 Pesky enduro riders getting in your way
Nice lap, you made it look easy. I see how the guy in jeans went down. 😮
Figured he was going to live. Got tunnel vision and didn’t grab a marshal. Went down pretty hard.
@@advweekender5709 lolol love the honesty. Here was me thinking, ah there's a helpful fella... but yeah although it definitely would've hurt, ultimately it looked like a bad shoulder stinger and he would've been fine I'm sure.
So how many hours did the cleanup take?😂. I’ve got a 790R and man, the mud hides everywhere!!!
@@jeffvincent1960 about 2 and a half hours dude 😂. The mud at this venue dries like cement! And yes the 790/ 890 has so many hiding spots where the mud gathers.
Great lap and pace to share with us all . Top job on the katoom 👌
Just watched your video of the 2023 race. Noticeable improvement over last year! Great ride!
Thank you very much Jeff
Class bud, knackered me just watching that, looks like i missed loads of good photo spots!
I’m still bloody shattered! Thanks for the awesome photos Jay.
Was you using the stock wheels?
I use an aftermarket set of wheels dude. More narrow.
A nice video to watch and have as background music ^.^ . Nicely ridden. What was the error/red bar you got in your screen? I wonder, what Renthal handlebars are you running?
Thank you dude! It was an immobiliser failure message. It happens from time to time. Cleared itself in the second lap. I’m using Renathal Fat Bar McGrath bend
@@advweekender5709Ah, good it fixes itself ^.^ . I saw your videos pop up multiple times, and always wondered what handlebars you are using. Is the clearance between the handguards and the screen a little acceptable? I tried to find a moment in the video on which you full lock the handlebars, but couldn't find any.
Luckily there is clearance between the hand guards and display. It’s not a lot, but enough and not had any issues.
Great job man!
Thanks Fede!
Awesome to watch! Nice work 😎
See you at the next one dude 😉
Nice one dude.
Thanks Rich!
Hey, nice video. Like the mirrors, what kind are they?
Thanks dude. Found them on eBay
Looks like great fun
Certainly was dude.
Class lads! See you at the Valleys!!
Cheers Jas! Can’t wait, see you there.
Nice ride, i can't seem to ride mud to save myself. Would have spent most of that picking up my T7 lol.
damn that looks fun
Looks like you had a lot of fun and a nice route, a few challenging bits and not sure about the diversion off road through the trees but that aside looks great. Any chance of sharing the route or the guide?
Fair play, you do ride that thing well. I see Rory’s revving the DRZ like it’s a 125 Varadero 😂
😂 he is loving the DRZ
sorry for clipping your mirror, momentum was the key and didn't wanted to end up in the bushes again ;)
I didn’t even notice dude 😂. Look forward to the next one
Awesome mate, I took the 990 there last week and got stuck at exactly the same point!!! I called it quits though, well done for persevering, quite an acheivement on a big bike!
Top job dude! I enjoyed your last video through Brechfa. You doing Valleys Lite?
@@advweekender5709 yep, I’ve signed up. You?
@@bigberthaontour yes dude. I’ll see you there
I am scared to look at it lol
😂 nothing crazy dude!
What if you put the traction control on 9
I think It is a lot steeper than it appears and it is on wet rock and clay
What tyres were you using?
I use Michelin trackers for trail riding dude
Chapel Hill at 18:40 is a killer 😜
Dude it’s on my list to go back and get it done!
nice one dude!
Cheers Rich!
Nice trail and nice bike! Just please next time without this horrible music - we all like to hear engine revs and your commentary. Keep up!
Thank you dude! I will leave the music out next time 🤘
you people are crazy! I can't imagine doing that with a 480lb bike
Excellent video mate. Some quality riding skills to boot👍
Cheers dude. Look forward to a ride soon ✊
Hello, a passionate video, could you tell me what brand and where I can get the rearview mirrors that you have installed. Thank you
Thank you Mario. They are generic mirrors from eBay dude.
Shame you couldn't do sunday, it was a good day, Especially on the way back only 5 bikes and we had a nice quick pace 1/3 of it already in the dark, good blast. You're in fir december 10th ?
It was a shame dude. I haven’t booked it in for definite yet as December is typically busy with the family. I want to take the 890 to enduro world at some point for some play time.
it would be good to private book it, I'm sure there would be enough ppl, all we need is 8/10
Having done the BMW and Honda training days (lvl 1), I can appreciate how the action cam doesn't do the riding conditions or routes justice - you make it look very easy! Is this a training session or organised ride out? I'm in adv training mode and looking at a mix of middle weight or a GS type machine. How're you finding the 890?
Thank you dude! The camera never does the terrain justice. This was an organised weekend with the Saturday being a bit of a play around the estate and the Sunday being a guided trail ride. Lee was on hand to offer instruction and is very good at what he does. He offers pay and plays from time to time as well as guided tours, 1 on 1 training or group training. Think I made the right choice with the 890. Incredibly playful and fun to ride. Not suffered from any problems with the bike at all luckily.
Hi where is this place? Great videos keep up the good work.
Found the information doh😂
😂 thanks dude!
What tyre you running
I ran Michelin trackers for this event dude.
Would you use them again
I just checked they are proper enduro tyres thanks
@@darnsarf yeah I would definitely. I’m doing dusk till dawn this weekend and am going to run Michelin enduros front and rear. But I will be keeping trackers on for trail riding definitely.
