I remember making something similar when i was at school, but it was more like a minature bow... The cool part was that the hollow pen shaft was like, an attachment, that allowed it to fire biro/ballpoint pen cartridges, but the normal hollow pen shaft i used for it was the PERFECT width to fit pencils nice and snug, so it mainly fired pencils. I was always looking out for more of that kind of pen shaft, but i only ever found one other, and i ended up losing it somewhere... was super proud of it tho, i remember messing around with it at break time with a friend, when we passed through the drama studio hall. The hall had like, loads of chairs like theatre chairs, and it was where we would go to watch DVD's on a big screen at the end of the year. anyway, the hall was huge! and I remember being in the hall with a friend just as break started, and no one else was around, so to test the pen bow, i quickly put it on my hand, and fired a pencil straight up, and the pencil ended up getting lodged in the ceiling 😅😅😅 I wonder where it went...I ended up putting it somewhere after i left school, maybe i should go through my old drawers again and see if i can dig it out...
