Needlepoint is my new favourite craft!

Cross stitch is fine and all, but needlepoint is where it's at! At least, for this brief honeymoon period in which I become obsessed before probably forgetting all about it in a week. But let's not worry about that part yet. The bowl patttern can be found on Etsy here and is, as you can see, very suitable for beginners: www.etsy.com/uk/listing/680317651/canvas-candy-bowl-digital-needlework If y...

I love that chicken! But I lean toward more "practical" projects too; other than things I'm making as gifts, which almost always take priority. 😊 Congratulations on meeting most of your goals! 🎉🎉
My current project is on dark blue aida and i would love a light box. Just having the lamp shine behind the work makes a huge difference but a light box would be so much better. As for frames, a standing frame is a huge life saver for any project bigger than your 8 inch hoop.
DMC isn’t a terrible price especially with sales and coupons. It is worth it in the long run for the time you spend on a project to have quality thread. Makes it easier to make the project. Lol I love those plastic Amazon project bags. Honestly I have never heard of a needle minder or the magnetic holders before your channel.
I always used a thin knitting needle as a laying tool long before i even knew that was a thing. I find it really makes a difference when your working mutliple colors in a stitch and when its a half stitch. My current project is on dark fabric ith 4 strand in a half stitch and i have to use my knitting needle to get all the threads to work they way io need them too.
Thanks for all your honest opinions and your stitchy work! (And, I love stitching while watching Star Trek, too <3 )
Is there something in the air about bobbin lace?? I've been increasingly interested in learning that one myself!! So I can't wait to see YOU crack into that kit... Maybe it'll be that nudge to get me into it??
I haven’t picked up my crochet in years because I am always so confused and frustrated about how my stitches are uneven and not right. Thank you for sharing! The shrug came out great. I might be brave enough to try again!
Yup, you gotta rub the yarn on your face! :) what's the point otherwise? 😆
I live in Florida and I am so envious of the beautiful scenery where you live and the cute shops you went to! Love it.
I love needlepoint and cross stitch! Your project is beautiful and I would love to share my counted canvas projects with you.
This does look super easy. Going to give it a go at the weekend, for my nurge hoop. Do I need to do anything different ? Thank you.
This was a really great review. Very clear and informative. I have been cross stitching for about 6 years and I didn’t know some these things!
Great video. Can I use railroading if I stitch with 3 treads? Or 5?
Ok now I want to try that crochet shrug 😍🤦🏻♀️
That was a really great explanation of the differences between the two crafts. Thank you for sharing. :D
Great video as usual.
Mine are prioritized by how well I want to finish my projects (is it a gift or for myself or practice). That makes me schedule projects when I am fresh and focused in the morning or have time on weekends versus evenings after work when I am tired. Yes! Totally hate looking at the graveyard of old half-finished projects! I have a goal to not open anymore cross stitch kits or try new crafts until in finish the main ones I have started. Especially those for gifts.
Oh how did I not know this was a thing before?! Definitely joining next year!
Thanks! What is the great cross stitch pattern in completed protect at end of video???
👋 I also have a towering pile of WIPS, though I prefer to call them Projects Half Done (PhD). As in: “I’ve reached a tricky juncture in my Applied Textile Studies PhD”. I have a technique that’s been helpful: stick a note on the project I’m about to abandon with details of where it’s up to, what’s next and what’s the barrier to continuing. When I remember to do this, it vastly reduces the mental burden in coming back to the project later and trying to figure out what’s going on and why it ground to a halt. Sometimes it’s a really simple thing like changing needles or getting a different thread or fabric, but without the note I tend to give it the body swerve because thinking and trying to remember takes too much energy. It’s much more fun to start something new. Well done on all your progress 🎉
I have a cardigan that I knitted the pieces of in the mid 80s (from memory), that just needs the front bands and collar and sewing up I also have a massive case of Startitis
I sort my floss with sandwich bags 😂 I sorted by "100's" "200's" ect then all of those in a bigger gallon bag. I even have an inventory sheet written out. It was cheap, and with the amount of floss I have cheap organization is where it's at 😂
Just wanted to leave some love for the chicken, I love her and I love her story ❤
"A Towering WIP Pile Of Shame" is a phrase to instantly enter the lexicon! Love your channel, thank you ❤😊❤
Talking of old wips - I recently finally finished 2 projects. The first was a knitted duck from Rosie and Jim - I started this when my daughter was about 2yrs old (she's 30!). The second was a knitted K9 (doctor who) for my son I started that one when he was about 5yrs old (he's 25!) The general consensus was I should finish them - so I did. I usually finish things these just got well and truly forgotten - until now😊
I separate my projects out into Mindless, tv crochet, pay attention and !Don-t-talk-to-me-i'm-counting!. and then i put them at point of performance. Tv knitting lives by the tv arm chair. mindless projects go by my bed for times when I'm just about to sleep knitting or bad brain days. !don't talk to me i'm counting" gets put by my desk, where i can scribble notes every row, and postit's all over the pattern. "Pay attention" projects are migratory, as they tend to get worked on when i'm on someone else's couch, not watching whatever they've got on (really. mom, yet another house remodel show? that's okay, I'll pull a blackwork sampler out of my bag.)
I IMMEDIATELY hit Thumbs Up and Share just seeing your picture…..as You have been so Grand each time You share your ideas and infectious thoughts with the world( which can be tenuous at times)…..thankful for Dave also as a supportive partner in crime at times…Respectfully Your PNW States Buddy
I have a cross stitch wip that is 30 yrs old (some day I will finish it)
i made an emotional support chicken without a pattern lol, i love it tho it was my first knitting project
.. stares at my wip pile.. you know what? I'll finish something tonight! Great work on your goals!! A 🐝 is a 🐝
Yep I was very pleased with that, never really expected to finish the whole list but I got closer than I thought! Go go go, you can do it! :D
I have done it! One shirt can be crossed off the eternal to-do list.. thank you for the motivation, that fabric has been laying on my table for at least three weeks...
I didn't take part in the challenge but it sounds so helpful to get motivation on old projects! Great video as always Michelle! 😊
One day you too will build a towering WIP pile of shame, and on that day you will join us :D
This is so great! I really ought to get on mastadon, seems the perfect place for crafters. I think I might aim for a finish or frog February next year, gives me enough time to dig out a few old (old as my almost 18yo son!) wips and make some harsh decisions. I did recently dig out a crochet jumper, jayda in stitches groovy poncho, anyway I'd done one side but I didn't like the second side. Managed to frog that half back and re do and almost finished the sleeves 👌🏻 so close now and it's just been sat in my room for ages! Perfect for the list methinks
Perfect is definitely a stretch, but it's pretty cool 😄 Your poncho sounds like a great candidate! I'm not sure doing it alone would be as motivational personally, the peer-pressure (relaxed and friendly, but still peer-pressure) is what does it for me. But hey if it works for you then hooray!
@TheGiddyStitcher oh I hear ya but if I don't get around to joining might be nice for a personal goal 👌 I'm so bad at everything ATM. And my attention span is like a squirrel lol 😆
On FlossCross, how do i make the PDF appear on one page? I have a 100 stitches project and the PDF is split on multiple pages for some reason 😭😭 I'm totally new and this video was super helpful! Thank you for your work!
would it be good for big projects?
There is a software called grid design i think your going to like it ? Give it a try and let us know what is your opinion about it .
Yes, Men can Crochet and knit too. Your Boyfriend did a great job and he caught on fast. I taught one of my Nephews how to Crochet and he caught on fast as well. I Love seeing men Crochet.
I love both cross stitch and needlepoint. I’m just finishing the fourth needlepoint Christmas stocking for my four grandchildren. The hand painted canvasses are very expensive, but you end up with an heirloom level piece. It takes me most of a year to make each one, but worth it. They are full coverage with no bare canvas showing through and I use silk and cotton floss and metallic threads. Pearl cotton can work, but not much color choice, so you can switch to your regular cross stitch thread stash and work out how many thread strands to use for the canvas mesh count you are using.
Never heard of a tail weaver. I definitely need one😂 where can I buy one in uk? Love info on your vlogs
Thread condition is good for different ( inferior )floss makes that come with some kits
Oh yeah, I relate a lot to the bit of just being able to pick up some things really quickly and that sometimes turning into overconfidence and starting bigger or more complicated projects than I maybe should :') And yes, oof, I've been knitting for a few years now but just recently picked up crochet, and when debugging something that went wrong, it's just so incredibly hard to figure out, even with video tutorials and photos, and I've definitely been at that point of being utterly convinced I did it the same way and it still coming out wrong because I just didn't know what to look for. With knitting, I can now often just kinda look at the fabric, know how it's supposed to look, drop some stitches and work them back up correctly, but I'm still learning to get that intuition for crochet.
I like how you used the neck light over the top of the Lowery stand. I have one and it slips on my neck. So that is a great idea!
Great video, as usual, and the cabling looks beautiful! Being convinced that I'm doing the exact same thing as the video has tripped me up as i've started learning magic tricks, too! It's like you're so focused on doing one part right that you miss all the details. One thing that's helped me avoid those kinds of mistakes is trying to learn the "why" of a technique as well as the how. stepping back and seeing exactly what each step changes in your project. if you know how doing different things will affect your stitches, you can more easily read your work and self-correct. It's not for crochet, but the book patty lyon's knitting bag of tricks helped me SO MUCH in looking at my crafts in a "why does this work" way. Highly recommend if you haven't read it before!
You have me daydreaming about making my own needleminders. I am already envisioning Factorio (video game) pieces decorating my WIPS. Is there a more "entry level" option of the canister thingy (it removes the bubbles, I think?)? LOVE your channel --- I'm going through all the older ones as I've rekindled my love of cross-stitch. I look forward to seeing more of your videos!
Thank you for this video! I just started a Christmas Mill ornament with beading and have never done beading work. Sometimes reading and just looking at the instructions aren’t enough so it is nice to have a video tutorial to visualize instructions for this method.
When people tell me I'm so talented I tell them that I just follow a pattern really well. In life in general, I follow instructions really well - I don't skim, I don't skip ahead, I don't think I know what's next without having already read it. Like you say, it's not talent, it's what my mom calls 'stick-to-it-ivness'
Same! I'm just like "I watched a tutorial and then copied it exactly, and then the thing appeared like magic!" 🤷♀️😅
How about dropping both terms and using the already existing terms for the skillset used, eg, embroiderer, carpenter, tailor/seamstress/sewist, sketch artist, painter, bookbinder, soapmaker, chandler etc.
really loved the editing on this one! well done sticking to it, and enjoy your decent motor skills!
My husband swears he's doing the world a favor by not learning to knit -- because he sees it as so much "wizardry" that if he "groks" it, the entirety of knitting will cease to work... *scratches head* Yeah, I can see that! LOL
l've not been diagnosed, but my daughter was, back when it was still called Asperger's Syndrome. But I feel *so* seen right now. I am poly-craftual. I don't so much have the "hobby graveyard" as the "wait, where do I store *this* new craft, 'cause I'm not going to quit the others!" storage issue. :) We're currently planning a major move (AZ to MI -- I'm so nervous!) and thus the "should I keep it" question is coming up in every direction. Talk about a recipe for stress-out. I've taken this opportunity to look at *what* I'm storing and *how* I'm storing it. Too often, I just grabbed a container already in my home, rather than figuring out what would be best for me. I struggle so much with switching tasks / gears. I feel like I can do ONE thing hard-core and then those creative muscles tire and I have to shift to another craft. I recently was telling a friend how I *hate* to shower because, "I'm dry now. I have to get wet. I have to do al the shower stuff, then I have to get dry again. Then lotion, hair care and fresh clothes.... I'm busy right now." She said, "Yeah, that's an autistic thing." I did such a "good" job masking through my childhood and early adulthood, I would have sworn I *couldn't* be autistic -- maybe because of that very stereotype you mention. I find your videos very comfortable to watch -- so many YTers look off center of the camera and it bugs the heck out of me -- even though in face-to-face socializing, I often don't keep my eyes on the person speaking. I *definitely* can't maintain eye contact AND think about an answer for the question I was asked. I love your transparency and how you are helping us all to normalize neuro-divergence. Please keep doing this! I already have a playlist full of your videos I know I want to watch.
Hi I was wondering how you created the original grid pattern in Photoshop? I always have to take a snapshot of my designs zoomed in at the original pixel size and this would really help for exporting bigger designs!
