Comtessa de Dia: A chantar, Sibil•la Ensemble
Comtessa (Beatriz) de Dia (c. 1140-1212)
A chantar m'er de so qeu no volria
"A chantar" is the only trobairitz (woman troubadour) song that survives accompanied by its music. In this canso, Comtessa de Dia expresses her deep pain and frustration over loving someone who does not reciprocate her feelings. Courtly unrequited love is a central theme in troubadour poetry.

Sibil•la Ensemble: Kristia Michael (voice), Andrew Hopper (vielle).
Many thanks to NPO Klassiek, AVROTROS, Jana Houben for the invitation, Hannah Grout for the video and Rob Heerschop for the sound.

"I must sing of what I'd rather not,
I'm so angry about him whose friend I am,
for I love him more than anything;
mercy and courtliness don't help me with him,
nor does my beauty, or my rank, or my mind;
for I am every bit as betrayed and wronged
as I'd deserve to be if I were ugly
It amazes me how prideful your heart is
toward me, friend, for which I'm right to grieve;
it isn't fair that another love take you away
because of any word or welcome she might give you.
And remember how it was at the beginning
of our love; may the Lord God not allow
our parting to be any fault of mine.
I especially want you, messenger, to tell him
that too much pride brings harm to many people."

Amazing and beautiful. Tears from the heart,
Stunningly beautiful!
Magical! Excellent performance! ❤
Gorgeous.
Beautiful Music and wonderful voice❤😊
This reminds me a lot of the beautiful music performed by Esther Lamandier.
Fantastic job! Love this rendition, bravo les gars.
Such beautiful singing and harmony!
Thank you very much 🌺
Hermosa música y hermosa interpretación
Muchas gracias!
David Mitchell playing medieval French music on his little violin is something I never knew I wanted to see, yet here I am
😂😂
Был сегодня на вашем выступлении в Enkhuizen, волшебные звуки, спасибо вам за то что вы делаете, и за автограф 😊
Fenomenal
touching.

More than nice. But I hear some remotely some oriental or, may be rather, Greek motives. Do you?
Geweldig, ogen dicht en je reist door de tijd, loopt door de verstilde gangen van Hildegards klooster. Wat n prachtige stem
Hartelijk dank! 🌹
That woman has pipes... The sound mixing could use work.
Belle interprétation!
Merci beaucoup!

Hermosa interpretación
Muchas gracias!
We're going to have cool medieval music, but not soon enough. Good musicians and percussionist, though!
Wonderful performance by all participants!! But Kristia's voice hits the heartstrings!!!😍
Thank you dear Andreas!!!
Another magical performance by Kristia Michael!!!😍😍
Love it. What alto recorder is that? where can get one Thanks :)
Beautiful instrument, acoustics, and performance -- I especially like the nuance and inflection produced by the variation of the wind pressure. PS -- you could get a drumset "hi hat" stand and connect it to the lower "feeder" and operate it with your foot ...
looks difficult to operate those bellows. Beautiful sound tho.
Thank you!
and cool and very controlled but full sound drumming... thank you. ( sounds like it was meant to sound like, i think, even though with a more eastern touch...) i like the recording. transparent but rich.
Thank you so much!
Sublime
ΕΥΓΕ.
Beautiful beyond words.
Thank you very much!
Bonne voix, français clair.
Merci beaucoup.
Wait, this guy is not a native speaker? Je suis sur le cul!
So superb.😊😊👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you very much!
glorious!
Thank you very much!
Anybody knows what that drum is called? Many thanks, that was a beautiful interpretation.
Its a Frame drum. Depending on the culture it can be under different names. Bendir is the most common. In this case is a cooperman 20” frame drum. Thanks for comment
By the way, who built the portative?
Beautiful
Greetings from Brazil 🇧🇷 It was a great pleasure to hear your interpretation:) What’s that curious instrument played by the flowered dress lady?
Thank you very much! It is an organetto (also called portative organ). Ancestor of the church organ.
Incroyable ❤️
Wow! Beyond medieval and into universally terrifying!
Thank you!
Χριστια μου ειναι απιθανο μπραβο
I agree, this is outstanding.
pero que onda celta!
Beautiful music. Where do you find a portative organ with wooden pipes like these?
Amazing!
Lovely
Bravo! This is an excellent interpretation of the ars nova style.
Thank you very much!
what language? fabulous
Latin: O rubor sanguinis, qui de excelso illo fluxisti quod divinitas tetigit: tu flos es quem hyems de flatu serpentis numquam lesit
Thank you. It is Latin, as it was answered above.
