Hey, love you videos. Do you have a day job or do you do this full-time, if not how much time would you say you spend on the business per day/week. Thanks👍
This is not full-time, just a side hustle. I work full-time as an IT Engineer. I probably spend anywhere from 2-5 hours on the business each day, but depends on the week. Usually it is done early in the mornings or in evenings after work.
Love your vids, you've been around 235 sales for the last few vids, is this because Christmas or just a slow time atm? Thanks👍
I think definetley because it is slow. Apparently After the holidays until end of February is the slow time of year for Etsy. So I have been enjoying it a bit and planning for pushing into 2025! thanks for watching!
I'm enjoying your videos and again thanks for sharing, keep pushing
Thank you, I will!
Yea, thanks for the breakdown. Just looking into 3D printers, these video's help a lot. Keep them coming
Thanks for watching, glad it's helpful!
Hey Ryan, Thanks a lot for this very good video. I bought an Bambu A1 AMS Combo and I want to start (small) with a 3D Print Business. I had in the past the question, where all the 3D printers get all the files for their business and what about license. That's why I was happy about this video from you, because it answered some of my questions at the same time. seeing how the product listing on Etsy works was a big help and the price calculation too. best wishes from Germany. I wish you good business Josh 🙂
Glad I could help! Thanks for watching and thanks for the support!
Didn't know you were in NJ. Print drone deflector system? 🤣
What you going to do going forward in terms of cost tracking ? App ? Excel ?
I use a Google Sheet with formulas for Etsy for bookkeeping now, transferring over to LegalZoom Bookkeeping in 2025 with the formation of my LLC!
@@DesignsByBrodhead Thank you for the reply and good luck for the future. I for one love your content. No nonsense ... love it.
I always struggle to decide what to include in these calculations, it can get complicated. It's useful to discuss though. Have you included your labour 🤔 I think you said they take 3 hours to print so if you're making $11 per stand for the ones without buttons, and you have 4 machines, you can make up to $44 in 3 hours. So that's $14 per hour assuming you are busy all day. That doesn't include processing time to clean up, package and post either. What am I misunderstanding? Should you not also allow something for building rent, where do you stop though 🤯
You can go down a long list of things you want to include in price. For me to make these stands, it takes about 3 minutes to load filament and send to the printer and takes very little post-print processing. For other products that take more prep before shipping or printing time, I will increase the price. For something like this, I need to make sure I’m towing the line of making a good profit but also staying competitive in the world of controller stands (or anything).
loved the breakdown of cost and posting for etsy.
Glad to help break it down a bit, more to come soon!
Hi, what about your marketing costs? I have heard that Etsy ads can turn out to be expensive per unit sold.
I just recently turned those on and up a bit and am tweaking them each day -- didn't want to cover it until I get a bit more experience. But definitely will soon!
Great videos. Where do you calculate your machine wear and tear cost?
I kinda bake that into the total product cost. Hard to calculate when you are only running 4 printers - but I think as I get further along into this journey it will become clear how much wear and tear they will take. So far any spare parts I’ve bought have been to just have in case something happens. Regular cleaning and maintenance prevents any issues usually. Thanks for watching!
Drum Corps (marched in HS and one year with the Renegades Senior Corps in 2001) and 3D Printing? Don't think I clicked the Subscribe button fast enough! Just got my first 3D Printer (A1 Combo too!) and am thinking about starting my own shop too. Great to see you come across my feed!
Welcome to the community! It’s a small world and there’s definitely a lot of us in both worlds. Thanks for watching!!!
Heyy, recently found your channel, tremendously interesting! I was wondering though, have 2 Bambu Lab A1's myself, but I experience huge vibrations, have tried so many things, how do you deal with this? Because have about the same cabinet, but mine vibrate like the meter when the printer is already at 100%, let alone faster. Thanks in advance for your response! Look forward to next video!💪
I don’t really have any crazy vibrations, but both of my muscle racks holding the 4 of them are also hunkered down with a ton of weight. Maybe try adding some weight and seeing what happens? Thanks for watching!!!!
Congratulations on your success so far dude! My girlfriend got me a Bambu P1P for Christmas and currently looking how I can do stuff in the UK
Thanks so much! Enjoy it, that’s awesome!
Thanks for sharing another interesting video
Thanks for watching!
I don't understand how Etsy algorithm works. You made 120 sales in a month after just starting? We've been going for 2-3 months and haven't even cracked 30 sales. Some days I really just want to pack this in, sell the printers and move on with my life...
I only had about 15 orders from September Until November - then right before Thanksgiving through Christmas a few of my products took off and one was listed as an Etsy bestseller, which I think helped. Definitely has slowed down over the last few weeks though, as expected. Don’t give up!
@@DesignsByBrodhead Yeah, everyone told me about the Christmas rush. Honestly, I'm not upset with my 30 sales. I'm a tadpole in the ocean and I made 30 sales. I just get down every now and then watching these videos because I feel like I must be doing something wrong as everyone else is powering ahead and I'm slow burning. I just keep trying to improve and press on. The next bend in the road could take me to where I want to be. Turning back now without seeing what's around the bend is how regrets happen.
@@adamarzo559I wouldn’t be upset with that either. No reason to be, that’s awesome. There are shops on Etsy who have been open for years and have less than 5 sales or even 0 sales and they won’t change anything because they think it’s other people that just don’t like their products - when in reality they probably aren’t putting in the most effort to show a customer why they should care. You thinking about it and reflecting on it speaks volumes - I don’t know what you sell but I think fitting into a niche is the way to go for Etsy
@@DesignsByBrodhead I just sell fidgets, dragons, the usual landfill stuff. Our most successful item is the bald man's comb. I think at least 20 of the 30 sales were that comb. Most of them went to the USA (We're Australia based). I think what happened here is we priced well enough to make a decent profit but still appeal to US customers because of the conversion rate currently. But yes. I absolutely agree with you about niches. It surprises me the volume that some of these niche items sell at. Like Cannon quick adapter mounts from another video I saw. Never would have thought something like that would be so popular. I have a little bit of CAD skills, I'm confident I could design something over time if needed, I just need to find it first haha.
Hey man . Nice work. Loved to Cadets. What did you play?
Thanks for watching! Was in the Cadets Drumline, played bass drum :)
looks like you might have had a cooling issue or extruding issue with that smooth print top layer. looked like some ironing issues i could be wrong. any idea what is causing the white outline to look rough on both? and have you tried the flushing feature ive heard about i guess where you could make some other item along with with your printing and the color change would happen in it besides the prime tower? i like the look for both snowman coasters. though i think on certain coasters they need that texture look.
Yeah I think it was the nozzle. My OG A1 combo had things stuck to the nozzle I couldn’t see. And yes I have tried that feature, but it will purge the brown/orange/black filament inside the white and the coasters are thin, so you see the infill lines through the coasters in brown/orange/black - after testing I stuck sign the prime tower because it was giving me the most consistency.
Really digging the content keep up the grind.👍. What are the bumpers you use for the coaster bottoms. Thanks
Thanks for the support! I have been buying clear adhesive bumpers in packs of 480 on Amazon. They have a 1/2” diameter
congrats!
I don't know what's going on with mine but I cannot get anything to stick to these
Might be a silly question, but did you select the SuperTack build plate option before slicing your models? I forgot to do that the first time, Lol
That smooth finish looks perfect. 👌
It is growing on me, I want to keep trying a few other of my existing products to see what it is best suited for. Thanks for watching!
Great Video! And thanks for sharing the experience
Thanks for watching!
I just love watching the process and progress. Keep it up!
Thanks for watching and for the support!
Thanks for the video! Can't wait to see more from your channel! I'll definitely be following along as I am in the kick-off phase of my own 3d print business at home. Hoping to launch my first product before the end of the month.
Thank you for watching! Go for it!!!
If you choose, you're sitting on a great goldmine of a business with the on-demand custom bakery items! Just another great example of how these machines are only limited by the mind behind them. :)
The sky is the limit! I really think 3D printing could be useful for a lot of small business’ locally. Not because we do anything brand new - but because we can provide products very quickly and in short notice. Time is $$$
Your filament holder. Where did you get it?
I got it on Amazon, I just searched “filament rack” and picked the one best for me. The specific one I bought doesn’t look like it’s on Amazon anymore unfortunately, but there are ones similar!
Ryan: I also was in a drum and bugle corps. The Bluecoats! You might of heard of them. Of course I was in in 1974-77. The original competitive corps. I have just ordered a bambu labs a1 combo. I am starting this journey just like you. So we can do it together! I have subscribed to your channel. I have to create mine for 3d printing. When I do I will let you know. Have fun. I will be watching!
Absolutely! I am still pretty involved with drum corps. I aged out with The Cadets in 2017, but have been teaching DCI/DCA/WGI ever since. What a small world! Let me know if you need any help!
@@DesignsByBrodhead I will. I marched snare for 4 years! Mine is coing in Jan 16th or so.
You just popped up in my suggested. Subbed to see how you go. I'm planning on starting small scale in a few weeks too. Cheers!
Thanks for watching and for the sub! Go for it, would love to follow along!
What kind of profit did you see on those cookie cutters? Do you have any idea of your COGS? Your videos are not about a business just some random jabrony buying stuff
Thanks for watching! Profited about $22 - $2.35 for filament cost and took maybe 8 minutes to get the cutter STLs made, sliced and sent to the printer. Solid 5 cutters for $25. No shipping cost since they were picked up from me directly :) When I can pay my mortgage with my Etsy payments, I’d call that a business. Thanks for the view!
Here for the ride :}
Thanks for watching!
Good luck to you, but I can’t listen to someone who says “erm” every other word, sorry.
Thanks for watching!
nice coasters. looked like the blue one they sat in better then the silver one. and that ornament was nice to
I agree, they both turned out well!
would love to see your review of the super tack plates. was thinking about getting one soon
good character to have man. ive got a couple youtube channels and honestly sometimes any video i did was more about me getting out of my comfort level. would love them to blow up but also still humble for the followers and subscribers i have on both.
Go for it! All of these are huge steps out of my comfort zone, but everyone I am extremely myself and just speak like I would to anyone else. For me that keeps it simple and makes me actually enjoy it, rather than try to manufacture something that’s not genuine. Be yourself!
@@DesignsByBrodhead thanks. and i do like the coasters.
You got this man. just had to follow you with my business youtube along with my personal youtube. Love the setup. ive got a v3 ke still in the box and should i even bother? i do alot of single and duel and tricolor things. ive been in some groups and some hate on the ke as well as a anycubic i got with there version of ams unit. Im new to it as well. also im involved in an amazing 3d community and love to have you join in. they do giveaways and live twitch streams. never have to pay anything. ive won a few rolls of filament and just the other night i won an a1 mini and waiting for that to come that was an omg moment for me. Love to connect with you man. We are following alot of other creators and doing what we can to support them.
Thanks for checking the channel out! I think if you have it, definitely worth messing with it. I made my first couple hundred bucks with just the KE
you got this. love to learn more. havent figured out etsy enough and creating listings right. love to get some advice. also have a small 3d printing gig.
Thanks for watching! Honestly I use ChatGPT for all my Etsy listings. Try that out and let me know how I can help.
Excited to see a new video!
We have such a great community!
Couldn't agree more -- this community has been so amazing, thanks for being here!
Hello, how are you doing?
Send me your STL for your logo sign, I’ll print for you!
Might have to take you up on that!
Lets go! Congratulations 🎊
Thanks! Let's see where this journey goes!
I like that rack you have your filament on. Can you tell me what rack that is? Thanks!!
The one I have isn't available on Amazon at the moment, but looks like the same company made the same one but a little bigger and its on a great sale - www.amazon.com/AHOWPD-Printer-Filament-Storage-Rack/dp/B0D798ZFLJ
@@DesignsByBrodhead Thank you so much!
congrats man! all the best!
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Is etsy a good place to sell? What is etsy missing, would you say?
I have loved it -- people have gripes about the fees, which I totally get. But there are not many platforms where you could setup your own shop, list products and make a sale within a matter of hours. I think it allows people the ability to grow at their own pace, whatever that may be! Etsy has a lot, but not everything. My main focus has been to try and come up with products/designs that can fit into the niche hobby's I love. I would try that!
Subbed. Looking forward to seeing your business grow.
Thanks for watching and for the sub! Happy New Year!
For a complete newbie… what is the best way to teach myself how to make a 3D printed cake topper?
Honestly I think you should figure out exactly what shape you want to make, and then I would mess around with TinkerCad and try to find some videos. Its amazing what is on TH-cam for this hobby/industry. If you can't find anything, let me know and maybe we can work together to come up with something!
Got a new subscriber here! Love these short and simple videos with details on what works for you. Just got my first printer yesterday and have my first print on it right now. My son who is 7 wants to have a 3D printing business so I am learning so we can do it together but mostly for selling locally. Will keep watching to see how your journey can help ours.
Love that! Thanks for the sub and for following along. I think that is not only a perfect way for you both to get introduced to 3D printing, but also for you two to bond and spend time together. He will remember that forever. Go for it!!!
Wonderful video as always, you’re doing fantastic over 600 subscribers! Love the organiser with all your tools! 🙂 happy new year! 🎉
NIce video! I'm along for the ride. Quick tip, when talking to the camera, look at the lens not the screen. Besides that, great video man. Good info and good audio.
Thanks for watching! Been trying to work on that, not as easy as I thought, Lol. Thank you!
