    Nice job. What size tanks are you using? YS engines tend to guzzle glo fuel. Did you use any vibration damping for the engines? I have not seen this airframe up close but I wonder if it will withstand the vibration given it was designed for electric power.

    • @brianbrotherson5529
      @brianbrotherson5529 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      They are 9oz tanks. Should be plenty since it will throttled back most of the time. No damping, although certainly no electric motor, these engines run very smooth, especially for a single cylinder. The wing construction looks very "normal" for a balsa model, it's not super lightweight and I think will have plenty of strength. Time will tell I suppose.

    • @Bruc3the628
      @Bruc3the628 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you know if 1 of these engines would be good enough power to put where the electric motor is? Also how did you find the proper mounting angle for the motor?

    • @brianbrotherson5529
      @brianbrotherson5529 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Bruc3the628 I would say it would be doable, but not what most of us expect. (so could be a disappointment) I flew a GP Escapade 61 with one of these engines, and I think it was about a pound lighter than the Twin Timber. It flew fine for a sport plane, but nowhere near unlimited vertical. The problem was it also needed a lot of nose weight to balance. In the Twin Timber I mounted the engines at zero, no down thrust, no side thrust. That kept it easy to make perfect and symmetrical. These engines spin an APC 13x6 at 11,000 RPM, so compare that to most 6S electric setups, and it's definitely less power.

I don't mind having a debate and a civil discussion even with differing viewpoints, but it rarely stays civil anymore :(. This hobby has changed drastically with the advent of BNF and RTF models, all it takes is money now with very little knowledge, combine that with an always on internet connection in your pocket, and a society that rather post off the cuff for the world to see instead of doing a little research first and things go downhill quick!

      I started with a RTF habu but I currently have 2 vintage balsa kits. I'm in the process of building. I have 2 60size 4stroke nitro warbirds that I'm finishing up as well. Im also currently getting a older QQ Yak 54 35cc gasser so I can put a smoke kit in it for my youngest son, it's all he wants to see is a smoke show. I love your setup only thing I'm not fully sold on is the nose I like them more on the pointy side but that's just me. Plus trying to cover a sharper point im sure is more difficult. @@jamesscheid7512 I wasn’t sure what to do with the nose. I thought about using the stock cowl and mounting a spinner with no prop. But with the scale exhausts, all the cooling holes and the stock spinner it would have been too original looking. It would have looked like it was just missing the motor, rather than a purpose built twin. Still waiting to fly it, but I will post a video of the maiden. Good luck with your projects and kudos for sharing the hobby with your son!

      I originally thought that too, however Tower Hobbies coupons worked for the Timber SWS, (and HH rewards) they never did for Hangar 9 stuff (this is E-flite branded) I had a 20% coupon, which made it "only" $50 more than the 30cc Ultra Stick. For that $50 you get something that arguably looks much better, has some style, clear windows, included lights, and pre-glued hinges. (no one wants to do do ANY building these days) That 20% would have saved even more on the BNF. I'm not a Spektrum guy, but everyone says the included electronics in the BNF are good and it's an additional savings. (The BNF also has installed pushrods, control horns, decals etc, lots of "fiddly" stuff for the instant gratification crowd :). Yes it is expensive, but anyone who has built an 80" plane and bought all the components can see the value. I spend nearly $100 just in wood to build the nacelles! Granted I have some leftovers for other projects, but I didn't realize how much balsa has gone up, it's no wonder everything is foam.

    Hi Brian, Beautiful plane and wonderful workmanship. May I ask you what material you used for the 3D printed cowl? I would be concerned using PLA due its low temp resistance. Now that you've had a chance to put more hours on your plane, have you had any issue with deformation due to heat (or cracking)? Thank you and Congrats again for a wonderful model. 👍

    • @brianbrotherson5529
      @brianbrotherson5529 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks, The cowl is PLA. I haven't had any issues yet. The radial runs pretty smooth, so that helps prevent cracking, and all the heat is in the cylinders which are out in the breeze. There isn't much heat in the crankcase, and it doesn't actually touch anywhere, so far so good!
