Rory Gallagher « Going To My Hometown » Marseille 75 master recording
In which Rory teaches you how to drive a 3000 audience bananas by clapping in time.
I've nicked a couple of snippets (from Tony Palmer's IrishTour) that show how the perfectly timed lyrics fit with the Marseille version although the song version is totally different form the Cork one. In my opinion the difference stems from the acute perception Rory had of the different nature of each individual audience He felt the specificity of this southern audience and played for them, the kids realized it and reacted with their three thousand pair of lungs to return the energy Rory was dispensing. At one point there was no doubt he was going to take us all to Ireland on his magic rock powered flying stage.

The Liverpudlians have « You'll Never Walk alone » The Kinks' audience has Lola aka « You'll Never Sing Alone ».I have seen the Kinks perform this song a number of times and Ray never fails in his ambition to let the audience indulge in their fair share of bellowing and turn the venue into a soccer stadium. A fun and practical way of bonding people from every walk of life. How I miss the specia...

Back in '74, when an Australian would meet his Innuit buddy, they certainly hadn't heard from each other for ages. It's a pity that these two chose this particular concert to make up for lost time, and decided to sit next to my right microphone. An otherwise rather decent recording with atmosphere and how to tune a moog at different times. Sound only. For more details and pix www.ukrockfestival...

This one is historic vintage: 49 years ago Rory Gallagher came to Marseille for the first time. Salle Vallier was packed with Taste fans , some who had discovered Rory with the double Irish Tour '74LP and a bunch of old timers hungry for good Rock and Blues music . Against The Grain was in the pipes and due for the fall. No one knew this young man hastily introduced simply as Roland, opening fo...

Nothing remotely related to artificial intelligence . As for «Drowned » don't miss John at 3':02, who reminds everyone who's h...

It was All Saints' Day two days ago and I remembered this young lad I went to see perform 48 years ago, who had released an album entitled « Sinner ». It seemed in order to pay tribute to him for the emotion he had aroused in me back then. Mark B was taking care of the recording* and I was standing at the foot of the stage wishing I had brought more rools of film for my borrowed Minolta SLR. Yo...

The day Van the Man rocked to an up-tempo version of the song with a tight 4-piece band masterfully powered by a very inspired Pete Wingfield, who consecrated the song with a new treatment seven years after it was a massive hit during the Summer Of Love.. A total triumph for Van Morrison in top shape and a reference version IMHO. New 2023 mix

My first try at digital recording. Very pleasant evening with a local audience who knew the words to the songs for a change. It was a total triumph for Joe and his musicians with a special mention for Sue Hadjopoulos who drove all the males « beat crazy » (only those of you who have studied French slang will understand the situation ; Joe speaks perfect French). I saw Rory every time he came ro Paris from 1981 until his last gig at the Paris Olympia in Oct/Nov 94 All his line ups were great but I think this band was his best. Unfortunately I discovered Rory too late and never got to see them in concert
I agree it was Rory's best band , in 75, at the end of the Marseille gig, Rod de'Ath looked like he didn't have a drop of water left in his body, Gerry and Rory also needed a serious wringing.
Quel bon souvenir. Merci
Saw over 30 Kinks shows. Never saw a dud...always impromptu with lots of audience participation. Ray became one one of the greatest front men of all time IMHO. Thanks for your comments too.
Hi, thanks for leaving a comment. Ray always finishes a show drenched in sweat, exhausted but happy when the audience has joined in. You can't stop the music (unless you're about to drop dead)😁😎
This was the year I first saw Quo. It was May 1975 at the Glasgow Apollo when I was 15. The Pretty Things were the support band.
👍!
Check out my Weatherman Blues. I think you might enjoy it. Roger
Thank you for posting this! You brought tears to my eyes.
Hello, I am deeply honored to get a comment from you, thank you. My wife and I cried so much laughter singing along to this song on our numerous rides in a Citroen 2CV I had fitted with a sound system (!). Thank you also for bringing the best of American culture to France with your talking blues adaptations. Talking about « Weatherman Blues » one of my favorites has always been « Le Blues De La Poisse » a fabulous tribute to French and French slang with just a je ne sais quoi due to your light american accent, everyone loved it in the Old Fashioned World.
Thanks so much, Jeff Stein tried to capture this same type of incredible leap from Pete but the lighting let him down. He got two attempts at Won't Get Fooled Again at Shepperton and didn't push trying for a third.
Hi, thank your for your comment. I was fortunate enough to see The Who six times in very good conditions but I really wish I could have had access to the backstage area to shoot pix and footage without being cursed at by people I disturbed by squatting closer to the stage than they did.😊

Cheers
50 year old boredom!
Super cool!

Music too loud i cant hear her thats music should be more delikate to hear her voice
Sorry for the inconvenience ; I confined myself to recording the music as it was, i wasn't supposed to run the soundboard.
Ma come mai questa artista che sicuramente avrà guadagnato soldi e diritti d autore e morta povera?
Hi, thanks for leaving a comment. I guess it comes down to « »The Cicada and The Ant" aka" The Ant and the The Grasshopper ». Artists often have a different approach to money than other people. As they are not paid on a monthly basis when money comes it comes in bulk so they tend to party intensely whatever the cost.
Gracias Rod por visitar Uruguay!
Sounds similar to the one from 73 tour on king biscuit radio broadcast, not that one but a different night. I had the vinyl bootleg and it's available elswhere.
Grazie mille

Grand Hotel is a master-piece referencing dreams of exquisite excess from the 19th century and beyond . And Keith Reid is my favorite 'Rock' Keith...Moon, Richard, Emerson notwithstanding. GB had the most expressive, varied and profoundly satisfying singing style of any lead vocalist, ever.
My dad played ukulele on this!
That must be a nice memory!
super souvenir! à la même époque Nico avait fait la première partie d'un concert de Magma au théâtre du Chêne noir à Avignon. une soirée inoubliable!

Sick man, Joe. Very sick.
I knew someone would like it ; you seem to be the only one though. Do you consider starting a career as a prophet ?😆
Doug Yule sounds great on guitar. Wow! Great set of alternate lyrics, as well. Thank you for posting this!!
Thank you for your comment. They had to deal with quite a rowdy audience but Lou and Doug pulled the band through.
Hello Joseph, sorry this might be a little odd and out of nowhere but I’ve been watching this a good bit and I was wondering if you had ever thought of getting this footage rescanned? If you ever think about doing it we can get in contact and I will pay for everything!! Please let me know because I can definitely say you would be amazed by it and I can show you some other shows that we’ve done!!
Only know of the Winkies as a hurried back up band for Brian Eno. Prob the late '70s or early '80s. The had a show w/Eno in LA,CA. It was a new venue called the China Club. I couldn't find venue and info (address n phone#) wasn't listed yet. Drove all around Hollywood area. Had tix at door but...no luck. Thanks for posting this! Appreciated.
Thanks for leaving a comment. Only thing I know is they were on Chrysalis and Hipgnosis designed the sleeve for their record, and as it showed four or five men's waists in bathing suits, there was little risk some fans might recognize them on the streets. I have seen more creative work from Hipgnosis😊

Wow…..outstanding quality, and sooooo good to hear Claudie live. Railroad rocks too…..
Hi, I'm glad to read that you enjoyed the recording, which proves that I was right to queue for hours, hold my microphones above people's heads for over an hour and get seriously insulted for standing up at the musicians' invitation instead of sitting on the cement floor. Life was hard fifty years ago but I 'd gladly swap ten years of today's life for a week back then.😃
Thank you on behalf of all Quo fans everywhere
@@richardlloyd166 This one comment makes all my efforts worthwhile; thank you.
Wow,just found this,is there more?I have a handfull of mid 70s live shows from ART and have never even heard of this one,Thank you so much.
Hello, thank you for leaving a comment. Most of the material I upload comes from my archives (50 years of concert recordings), so it's not surprising that you haven't heard of this concert before. Sorry, that's all there is from this concert. The weird sound comes from the fact that each band had to use Can's PA without being allowed to change the settings, which got Nico all worked up.😊
Great version. Doug Yule on guitar too.
Thanks for leaving a comment ; if you liked Doug Yule's inspired sound, check out the incandescent end of Kicks from the same gig here : facebook.com/joseph.kolmansky/videos/1787378107998192
Thanks a million for this Joseph. Was there, aged 19, with some mates from work here in Dublin. Enlightening is an understatement. Hard to believe now that Van The Man was a support act.
Hi, thanks for leaving a comment. Glad you enjoyed the upload. About Van I witnessed even worse : during his tour in France in 78 (I think) the french band Telephone was opening for him but they were so popular at the time that the promoters decided to switch the order of appearance and here was Van opening for this crappy band. I was so disgusted I left after his set. I don't think they even apologized. Imagine John Lee Hooker opening for the Hansons.
@@josephkolmansky8965 I suppose he played all his 'standards' but that was the year 'Wavelength', my least fave of his, came out. So he would have been pushing it. But it would have been interesting to hear it in a live context. Keep up the good work.
the lp 'coney island' is a masterpiece !!!! great moment you share with fans here ! thank you !
Thank you for leaving a comment. You can listen to a tense/stormy rendition of "Kicks" from the same gig here: facebook.com/joseph.kolmansky/videos/1787378107998192 it was sort of a first draft before I decided to upload CIB.😎
20:50 here...
"one - two - three - four..." Listen to the heaviness of the Blues part of "Railroad" - with great mentor and co-composer BOB YOUNG on the harmonica, without whom the Quo would have never become what they were (are). Me, I'm sure about that even though I never really heard it saying explicitly. And many thanks to Joseph for this true treasure - which I find much better than the famous Madrid recording of the same time - ... and the transcripts😂👍🙏
Nice one!👍and thank you😎
David Rose who played keyboards composed The Stripper
18:04 Ricky even contributed his "yeah yeah yeah" at the end of Claudie - just like on the record. It's those details, isn't it? (It is our rockgod Rick even though it's a Rossi/Young composition of course).
Great
The only band to survive turning their backs to the crowd back then, even thriving the audience to go nuts by it. When you watch those old live gigs, they totally own the place. They do whatever they want and by that act totally normal and fluid. No cramped and stiff behavior, to me that is a massive part of their success back then, besides being tight as f***, and playing live better and with more power than on record. (We all know that they recorded all releases back then live in the studio)
👍👍
