Actually as long as you dont tap the mag release its not a problem. Some early/cheap submachine guns didnt really have another option but holding the magazine. And alot of U.S. soldiers were trained too hold a magazine instead of getting muzzle/barrel burn or burning through gloves.(grease gun).
