So fun to hear your thoughts on these! I have read pretty much all backlist books this year so I don’t think I’ve read anything on this list. How cool that they have an audiobook category! It’s probably just more of a judge of the voice narrator performances because if I rated my top favorite audiobooks they would definitely be different than my top favorite books of the year. Thank you so much for addressing everything that so many of us are feeling. Reading is undoubtedly political and builds empathy and compassion. I turn to books, too, in times like this as I think of the best ways to take action. Chain Gang was heavy hitting in a way that I find really effective and impactful.

A Dark and Secret Magic has been on my TBR ever since I heard about it and I've heard great reviews since then.. hope to read it soon! my library doesn't have it yet so I'll either put in a purchase request or just buy it since I absolutely adore that cover!!

I'm the same way about cozy books and you said it perfectly - cozy reads sometimes aren't engaging enough! But I can sit and watch a Hallmark Christmas movie every single night, lol during December haha! That's great that you enjoyed this one! I put it on my list for Halloween books to try. I love that's a Hades/Persephone retelling :) Once, again, excellent review and loved hearing your thoughts :)

Currently 60% into this based on your rec! I totally agree, it felt way too insta love but I’m totally here for the mystery unraveling. I care enough about our main character to keep with it and honestly I’m loving it for its autumnal vibes 🍂✨🕷️

I picked up two cozy mysteries but have yet to read them (they were free on Kobo). I know, not a cozy witchy genre :p I remember watching Practical Magic, but don't remember much - I should re-watch it. I do remember and enjoyed the Hades/Persephone myth. Great video. While I don't typically read cozy fiction, I did enjoy the video :)

Have you been to Multiverse in Peachtree City, GA? We're heading that way this week to volunteer. There are a ton of authors and other creators with an emphasis on inclusion. Most of us are horror, sci-fi, and fantasy authors if you're looking for more genre based reads. And there's a ton of panels and activities to join in on.

Great haul! The Lincoln Highway is SO good and (to me) didn’t feel as long as it is. My book club read it and we all loved it.

Great wrap up! The Collected Regrets of Clover is definitely going on my TBR. I’m fascinated by the idea of a death doula. I also read The Bluest Eye this year, but remember being told that it was really sad and I knew about the trigger warnings. I agree, it was hard 😢. To see what that poor girl went through and the ending 😵‍💫. I loved her writing style though. I want to read Beloved too and some have said it’s even harder! I’ve had Wolf Hall on my list too, but I know nothing about that time period so I feel like I would need to learn about it before I even try 😂.

The Memory Police was an interesting one. I didn't really love it or engage with it much when I read it. But at the same time some scraps of it have stuck with me in a weird way. I swear at least once a month I get a weird dream about it 😅

I just finished the audio book yesterday. Iand it's still in my head. Thinking about what was real. What isn't real.

Happy BookTube anniversary! I enjoyed this video and it’s great to see you reflecting back on your channel and talking about the videos you really enjoyed making. I honestly think you are such an amazing book reviewer and you always have so many great thoughts and insights and I like how you talk about the book without giving too much of the plot away. That is definitely not the easiest thing to do and I think you do it really well! I agree with you when you talked about how some of the larger channels have been doing more themed reading vlogs and it would be really hard for me to do as well because, like you, I like to read a bunch of different genres and I get sick of the same one over and over lol. I think ultimately the most important thing about having a channel is to really enjoy your own videos and enjoy the process of making them. I got too caught up in all of the reading events and felt so much pressure to read certain things and now that I’ve stepped back and just done my own thing I feel so much better! Good luck with your future plans for the channel!

Spoilers, don't read if you haven't read the book already I have listened to a podcast with the author who said the truth is in the names What if Eve is really Emma and everything is just her delusion because she suffers from that condition and Thomas and his family just play along with her trying to keep her calm? The little girl called her Emma at the beginning, Charlie is almost never there, when she called her from the neighbour's phone it sounded like they did break up. Maybe the scene where Eve leaves the motel is actually Emma leaving Charlotte and Eve just remembers it differently, seems like the time line might be mixed up Still not sure what happened with the other people who entered the house, maybe the house is a portal to another reality? Also Charlie went back to the house at the end and found it borded up and almost goes mad Not sure how all ties up or if is supposed to What do you think?

Finshed the book last night! I have never completed a book in 2-nights. I was hooked, scared and wanted to stay up late.
