WHO DONE IT? (1917) - Gale Henry
A raucous reel of fun featuring Gale Henry, Eddie Baker and Billy Franey, clobberin' everything in sight with his club. And this is a reel rarity too. We believe this only exists on 8mm film - scanned and restored here for your further viewing pleasure. (It was issued in the UK by Perry's Movies, under the title 'Moviemad'!). Thanks to Glenn Mitchell for the loan of the print and for creating the main and end titles. Marvellous music by Ethan Uslan, from his 'Blaze Away' collection, available now at ethanuslan.com (used by permission). Enjoy!

Time to wind the clock back... So, ever since the Monty Banks Blu-Ray discs were sent out to all of the wonderous Kickstarter backers who made it happen, I've had a load of lovely folk say "hey Dave, why weren't the Kickstarter update videos included as extras?". Well, there just simply wasn't the room. So, in order to keep everyone happy & jolly, here's the first of three of 'em. Oh, and if yo...

Here's a nice little rarity, that we believe is only on 8mm film. It's the surviving footage of a Mr & Mrs Sidney Drew from 1918. Although it's not complete, there's enough footage to establish what's going on and it's a delightful example of their style. Hey Drew Barrymore! Here's one of your relatives!! The music ('Temptation Rag') is supplied by the nimble fingers of Mr Ethan Uslan. Check ou...

Bill Scudder was a good Chaplin impersonater. He did all those IBM commercials back in the late 80's/early 90's when IBM aquired permission from his estate to use his character. Some of those commercials can be found on TH-cam.

Ford Sterling was THE star at Keystone before Chaplin arrived. His nose biting bit was his signature move and IMO still holds up to this day. I love his exaggerated facial expressions and hand gestures. It looks silly today and was even back then as well but that's what Mack Sennett wanted in his shorts. Ford was a master of the silent comedy craft.

@@marcdelente2456 Thank you! Can you give me more details? I'm still searching for solid evidence regarding this story. Rob Stone for instance has a different view on Stan and Larry. For example that Larry always allowed his co-stars lots of screen time, no matter who it was and that Stan was struggling with his drinking and not reliable and in the end that the Spanish flu forced Vitagraph to close down so that Stan had to return to vaudeville. Larry used Stan first in Huns and Hyphens in a small rôle, in Bears and Bad Men he already gave him intensive screen time in which the two already teamed up and in Frauds and Frenzies there was nearly equal screen time, just in the final scene Stan got a bit less, although he was in the final frame with Larry. BTW Larry was the star, Stan was a fledgling screen actor. Chaplin for example, as Sennett stated, had not that much competition in his films after he left Keystone. Semon constantly worked with lots of scene stealers: Hardy, Carlisle, Kirby, Hayes only to mention a few.and if you watch his complete films he rarely is the first one to enter the scene. Quite on the contrary, granting others 5 minutes or more. I should say one should handle this story which seems to me as word of mouth with much more care. And I really wonder why it is always cited again and again.
