Family Cohesion Visa Update | Italy | Did my Husband get it?
Hi! I'm Giulia.
Ciao! Mi chiamo Giulia.
This is the ongoing story of two crazy people and 6 cats trying to overcome chronic illness and build a forever home for our little family. We have just moved to Italy to buy land and set up our homestead all over again. We moved because I have Idiopathic Syringomyelia, which affects my nervous system. So come along for the ride, it will be an interesting one. In this video we are going through the where we are with the family cohesion visa.

I can’t imagine the Anxiety of leaving them. I’m so glad it all worked out. Thank you for sharing.
please can you describe the pain, cause i have a burning sensation on the shoulder, since my first diagnosis about 2weeks ago ,i was prescribed any pain meds so i just want to know if that is the sensation that you are experiencing
It is not easy to describe all the pains. I have a veriety of pain each day. I have less burning pain than most people with syringomyelia. However, I do feel a burning sensation sometimes. Where is your syrinx?
This is incredibly helpful, Thankyou…I’m moving to Milan and dreading the intricacy and how expensive it is there
I'm really late to the party here but how can you request all these things such as asking for everything in writing, insisting on inspection, etc.) if you do not speak Italian. How hard is it to communicate with the lawyer, landlord, rental agency, etc.?
@@MrCrazz23 it depends where you will be in Italy. Most lawyers will speak some English and some landlords. I'd look up all the terms in Italian and write out everything that you need in both English and Italian. Use deepl for the translation as it is the most accurate. My husband sends emails in both English and Italian with the Italian being translated.
Thanks for the info. I appreciate the video because all you see on TH-cam is how great moving to Italy is they don't talk about all the problems. I'm actually looking at Vietri Sul Mar in southern Italy which is along the Amalfi Coast near Salerno. I've been told the southern part of Italy is a whole different world and English has spoken much less. We're hoping to take advantage of the 7% flat tax so we need to live in a town that has a population of 20,000 or less in southern Italy. I would imagine at least at the Amalfi Coast since tourism is so high that there would be more English speakers but not sure about the towns outside of it.
the cannabis helps me a lot!! LDN has been very helpful too. Ketemine assisted psychotherapy has helped me a lot bc I have lived with this most of my life and I needed to cry through it and accept it.
I hear you. It's like one just needs a few sessions to get it out. Well, I certainly need it periodically.
when i was 20 a very heavy trunk fell on the back of my head. It took over 20 years to put it together that it was the cause of the extreme pain. thank you for the video. ❤I only found one medical prof. that knows about it.
great inspiration. My daughter (she is just 23 years of age) has been diagnosed with syringyomyelia. She has right leg stiffness. She is a student in Berlin and enjoying her studies as well as traner of yoga and sound healing. She is fighting with it and im sure she will get the victory

I hope everything is going well. Iv only just found your channel. Wow your story is amazing. You are so brave. And you live in a beautiful place now. I love your cat. Iv just ben diagnosed with two syrinx in my spine and I'm 61. Your so positive right now. I wish you all the luck in the world x😊
My pain has become unbearable everyday anymore…kills me when people think I’m being overly sensitive or a big baby like my mother thinks
The pain is intense. Deeply.
Hi Giulia, thank you for your videos. I hope you are doing ok. How is the pregnancy going and did the permit come through? Been through the CDS ourselves very recently. Eventually it all clicks into place!
Hi! The pregnancy went well considering everything. The permit came through as well. Wishing you a splendid day!
@@urbanyolkcan you please help with the details of the law firm you used? Thanks and Congratulations on the permit
This is an excellent video. Thank you! I am sorry you went through so much difficulty. I’m so sorry to hear about your cats. Can I please ask how do you know whether a real estate agent is licensed. How can you find out if a rental contract will be enough to claim, residency if you are seeking citizenship by descent. I plan to complete a six month contract in south Italy. Grazie mille JoAnne

I’ve had this curse since I was 6 months old…I’ll be 61 yrs old this year. I was diagnosed with it at 40 and my chronic pain is unbearable everyday..day in day out for decades and decades. I need and want to retire but cannot financially. It is sheer hell. Thanks for sharing your story with me.
Thanks for this. Please continue to do updates on this rare disease. God bless 🙏
I don't have chiari causes mine is from having arachnoid cysts that came from having lumbar osteomeylitis which spread to thoracic. I've already had one thoracic spine surgery but there may be more so I'm monitored. I don't have pain but I get scared of getting paralysed. I'm doing remarkably well even tho my MRI images look otherwise. My spinal cord doesn't look like much of one. I do some regular exercise to keep moving well.
Just want to send a thank you for posting these videos on syringomyelia. I also have idiopathic syringomyelia. I was diagnosed about 5 years ago, but have had it my whole life they believe. It seems we're probably of a similar age. It made me tear up a bit to see myself in you, and to know there is someone else my age who knows what it feels like to experience this illness. I've struggled with people not understanding the illness and not understanding how I could be in pain when I look perfectly healthy from a bystander's perspective. We have very similar symptoms. My symptoms happen on both sides, but also tend to happen more on my left than my right. So I understand the hemispherical piece you speak of. Sometimes I'll limp on my left side when my symptoms are really flaring up. But for the most part, I do my best to stay active and most people can't see that I'm limited, but I feel pain a lot, and I do restrict myself in ways people don't see in order to protect my spinal cord. There are times when I feel amazing and forget I have the condition, but then other times it's very clear that I lead a different life than most people because of the illness. Anyway, you know all of this, I'm sure. My point is - thank you. Sincerely. For reaching out to others with syringomyelia and sharing what has worked for you, and for spreading the word to those who may not know syringomyelia exists. You're a gem. If you ever feel like connecting, I'm around - across the world, but around lol
I'm so glad to hear that you were able to find something good in these videos. It is tough to make them consistently so I just do what I can when I feel like I am up to it. You are the first person to have a similar experience that has contacted me. I honestly just wanted to share some information about it and soon realised how many people out there just wanted to feel connected. I'm alwaya happy to connect. Just send me an email whenever you have the energy. I'd love to know more about you. Keep well and thank you for the comment, it is much appreciated.
I have ideopathic syringomyelia in my thoracic spine T5 - T8 3mm
This is nice to see and follow. Honestly the area you live near is really pretty, that first year or moving somewhere new is definitely a Journey, ill try to check up on you! Id also love to ask you some questions on how your health-care has been in italy, i think with people with chronic illness health care is a much more different subject even more so when you have chronic pain. Would you say italy has been taking care of your pain so far?
Thank you! Honestly, so far the experience for pain management has not been great. I will make more videos as I experience more of what Italy has to offer.
@@urbanyolk man that is tough as nails, I know this is probably something you've definitely done but as silly as it is, has massaging helped? Silly I know but I guess depending on how bad your muscular pain gets I think massaging certain parts can help, even more so if your partner is able to help. Stuff is hard no matter where you turn depending on the situation. Here's hoping you'll feel better. I bet even making videos can be tough too, keep doing what ya can!
@@PringleTheOne it does help to a certain extent. The problem with it is that it can aggravate the pain and muscular spasms as well. It is a little unpredictable. For now hot showers are my best option when I feel up to it. Some exercise typically helps too. Keeping up the strength but with the pregnancy it is much harder to do. May I ask, do you also live in Italy?
The headache of paperwork is like the most annoying thing ever lol. I worked as a admin guy and just knowing how things can get lost or some important documents just sitting around is ass cheeks lol. Gotta be nice cause if you piss of the wrong person you might be really screwed. I hope the visa comes through, i believe it will, sadly theyre gonna make you grind for it. Least cats air simple lol
❤
This sounds like great news. I hope the birth doesn't hurt with your health. Do they take well care of your pain in italy?
They unfortunately do not know how to assist me during pregnancy to manage the pain. They leave it up to me quite a bit. They do try though. And thank you!
❤
I also have had syringomyelia for 4 years. Our choice is hope and not despair
Hello mam my mri report shows slitlike syrinx / persistence central canal is that a ture syrinx🧐🧐
It is a type of syrinx from what I understand. Typically associated with a dilated central canal.
@@urbanyolk is that I called myself syrigomylia pateint or not😢😢
@@mograkhan-bt2zk it is hard to say. It would appear to be a separate issue from syringomyelia. I would speak to your doctor to find out more or get a second opinion of you are able.

I have a it in my thoracic area with scoliosis and no chiari malformation. I sometimes get backaches in the thoracic area, but mainly in the low lumbar area from arthritis. I had no symptoms and it was found during a MRI for something totally different. They have found quite a few anomalies with scans, enlarged adrenal gland, plaque build up of the arteries and kidney stones.
Goodness, quite the find. I'm glad that they were able to find these issues. Helps to know as much as possible o be address things early on. I hope yoir treatment is going well!

Thank you for sharing your story. I was just recently diagnosed with syringomyelia and have been feeling so alone in it. Listening to you I have hope that life can continue on and will find the best ways for me to manage moving forward. Thank you 🙏
I also have Syringomyelia, Im 38 weeks pregnant and have a scheduled c section in a week at 39 weeks, will you be having c section as well? I also can’t have Epidural or spinal so I have to be put to sleep😕
Congratulations! Wishing you all the best for the birth. I am planning on having a c section as well. The doctors here told me that we will discuss it in my next appointment.
Mostly wondering why this video is not made half sunk into a chaise lounge. You wont loose cred and the added bonus would be that we could know that you give yourself the care that you deserve. Say hi to the little one, this world could use another really nice person.

Hi. I have also been diagnosed with syringomyelia a year ago. The pain is so severe, it's taking over my life. Has anyone had surgery and had any success? Doctors seem to have no idea about this condition
Hi! There have been some success stories for syringomyelia. However, they are not mainstream yet. You will need to do a fair amount of research before making any decisions. Most people who do surgery also have chiari malformation and as such theu have decompression surgery. Some people have tethered cord and other similar issues which dictate the surgical options available. The only on available for just syringomyelia is in Spain and Italy. These are institutions performing filum surgery. They both perform it slightly differently. The theory, as far as I understand, is that the filum is too tight and so they cut it. Success seems to be varied. It is relatively new which makes it harder to understand. Most neurosurgeons seem to advise against it. I'm not sure on it yet and will spend the next year finding out more. There are a number of groups on Facebook with gopd information for syringomyelia. One is a UK group specifically discussing filum surgery. Others are mpre like support groups. It can get a little sad but there is good information and people who can answer more complicated questions.
@@urbanyolk thank you so much for your reply and advice. I have had different advice from two neurologist. One thinks it's not the cause of the pain and the other does. I'm worried as it gets bigger will the pain get worse and it's already so so bad. I don't know what I did to deserve this but it's so cruel 😭 I think I'll definitely follow some FB pages for some answers 👍❤️
@@daniellekathleen5425 no problem at all. I'm happy to help where I am able. The disease is different for everyone. I often suggest finding stability to people. The pain has never truly gotten better for me but my routine and lifestyle make it much easier to manage. The fact is that symptoms can worsen even if the syrinx doesn't grow and sometimes there are other underlying issues that are harder to discover. This is a disease that requires you to be the advocate and make the decisions for your care. I have seen many doctors, some of whom couldn't spell syringomyelia. But the giod news is that there is a large community in the world willing to take the time to help. It is a lot to take in right now. It will be for a few years unfortunately. Just know that leading a good life with this disease is possible and many have been able to find just the right balance. You've got this!
@@urbanyolk I was such an active and happy person and it's so hard to adjust. The thought of peeing my pants or not being able to walk terrifies me. I will probably never come to terms with it but I'm so grateful for people like u that make me feel better...even if its just for a minute. Best of luck to u too....❤️
Good list of suggestions...especially the crying! Can't use cannibis, but use pain medication daily. Chronic fatigue is a Huge issue for me as well. Ģood luck to everyone here.❤
Glad for your news. You are very brave to go ahead with everything. Personally, I would not manage without medication. Can I ask why you can't take medication?
Sure, yeah. I struggle with medication as a main form of pain management. I have taken a lot for many years and over time I started to become tolerant to the ones that did work. The ones that didn't caused adverse reactions. Eventually it got to the point where the medication I was on caused severe symptoms themselves. Including losing my memory, insomnia, intensified brain fog and so on. It eventually became a bit of an addiction as well. I couldn't work and just showing up for the day was difficult so I changed my ways. I'm much better now. At the moment things are difficult which is affecting my mood. But now after years of recovery from the medication I do take medication when I need it. So, I'm not opposed to it by any means. I just found a balance that works better for me.
I'm also South African ❤ It took me ages to get a diagnosis , because this condition is quite rare and most doctors didn't have a clue!
I hope you're able to get all the support!
<3
Congratulations on your pregnancy and the great new apartment and landlady that you now have!

Isn’t it better to have painkiller everyday
I have found cannabis to be far more effective at helping with daily pain as it has far fewer immediate side effects for me. Not everyone has the same experience and it really does depend on your reaction to the product. Also the legality will influence your accessibility. Painkillers in pill form can have very high side effects which can make it harder to maintain a good routine and standard. I was on many painkillers, anti inflammatories, stomach medication and topped with nasal sprays and cortisone. All of these had side effects that needed to be managed by other medication. My stomach was a mess and struggled to eat. I was constantly drowsy and had even more fatigue. Just to outline some of the issues I experienced. My solution is not a cookie cutter recipe that will work for everyone. Each of us need to evaluate what the best method is for ourselves. I do believe that painkillers have a place and should be used when needed. However, for daily use on a permanent basis has the potential to cause a decent amount of harm. I have found a good balance with only needing painkillers at times when I cannot manage at all. The cannabis makes a huge difference in my ability to manage the daily pain and it helps my appetite a great deal. Though I find straight CBD does nothing for my pain. A small amount of thc is needed to work without getting one totally high. That defeats the whole point.
@@urbanyolkthank you for this detailed reply. Very helpful.

So I am from Africa and Planning on moving to Italy this September via the study route...i applied for masters program at the university of Florence...I am just married and will love for my husband to come with me or come join me ASAP since we are just newly wed...so I will love to know if it’s possible to bring your spouse to join you as a student or not and if possible what is the fastest and surest way to make that happen Also can your spouse get to work full time when they finally get to Italy? Will gladly await your response
Hi! Apologies for the late reply. From what I understand, once you have your residency card your husband can come through on a tourist visa and then apply to the questura (police headquarters) of Florence for family cohesion. The process should in theory take 6 months but as we have seen with my husband, we are almost one year into the process and still waiting on his permit. It can be a time consuming process and you need to be able to take time to go to the questura to follow up on the visa. You will need to provide a maintenance letter, showing that you are willing to pay for any costs related to your husband. This includes medical costs. You will also need to provide 6 months banks statements to show that you have enough money. If they feel that you have adequate savings they will grant either a 2 year permit or a 5 year permit. Depending on the length of your master's program as well. However, this is not necessarily a sure thing as your stay would be temporary by default. Another option would be to look at the visa for accompanying family members (“familiari al seguito”). This might be a better option. A student my apply from their home country through the embassy to get permission for the spouse to accompany them to Italy and stay for the duration of the visa. You still have to prove that you have adequate funds and housing along with other documents such as marriage certificate, nulla osta and so on. I would suggest going to the Italian Embassy closest to you and ask about the familiari al seguito visa for your husband, if it is possible. This way you might be able to get him to come over with you with a permit in hand. The University of Florence may be able to offer some information in this regard as well. Essentially ask the embassy and the university for information as they will likely have the best information. With your time frame, I would go as soon as you are able to and find out what you can from the embassy. I am not an immigration expert by any means but I have done a fair amount of reading and hope that this information will help you find the path that will work best for you.
