Is the Mandalorian on a Classic Hero's Quest
SPOILER ALERT
Is Din Djarin of the hit Star Wars series on Disney+ on the classic hero’s journey? We know that George Lucas was inspired by the work of Joseph Campbell when he crafted the adventures of Luke Skywalker. Now, similar elements from Campbell’s monomyth of the hero's quest can be seen in Mando’s journey to bring the child, Grogu, to a surviving Jedi. If so, what is in store of Mando as season 2 ends?

The Jabba the Hutt Scene from the 1997 Star Wars Special Edition: George Lucas’ Worst Mistake

George Lucas made several questionable choices in releasing the 1997 Special Edition versions of his Star Wars trilogy. This could be forgiven, if he hadn’t tried to make the Special Edition versions the official ones, attempting to erase fully the Star Wars films as they were released in the late 1970s and early 1980s from the collective memory of pop culture. While it's said George Lucas was inspired by the cranes at the LA port for the AT-AT....but while every ship in Star Wars floats on what appears to be anti gravity mechanisms, why does the AT-AT need walking legs when they could have probably made it levitate. This is all suspending Earth physics of course, but those AtATs were slow walking vehicles....so much faster if they floated.

    Just a tip should you ever get the walker's head apart again..... The metal spring in the neck can be adjusted to get rid of the walker's lazy head. If you hold it looking at its side as it would sit in the walker, take the long straight section coming off the bit that slides into the posts near the neck's pivot point and start giving it a gentle curve upward over its entire span from the mounting point forward. Your're aiming to move the tip of the spring (with the small 90 degree bend) so it rests about a 1/2" higher than it would had you left it straight. That way when it rests in the slot in the head there's some pre-load in the steel that'll hold the head level. (It does now take a tiny bit of effort to depress the head, but elevating it is a breeze and it will always come back to straight and level!) Mine has held its head high for about a decade now!

    I've never understood why people think the scene with Han and Greedo establishes Han as part of the "scum and villainy" of Mos Eisley or in any way portrays him as being "unethical" or "immoral". That's not the purpose of that scene. It's simply there to deliver a clever piece of exposition, letting us know that Han owes money to the crime lord Jabba The Hutt, thus establishing some background and motivation to his character. The fact that Han kills Greedo is simply for a lack of alternative options. Since Greedo has a blaster pointed directly at him and outright says he's going to kill him if he doesn't pay his debt immediately, Han Solo doesn't really have a choice. This doesn't make him "scum" or a "villain", just a tough motherfu#&er who's not affraid to prototect himself when needed. He also needs to get on with the actual story and get our protagonist off of Tatooine a.s.a.p and not get too bogged down with some side story. George Lucas himself didn't understand his own scene and it's purpose since he made Greedo shoot first in his "special edition" AND re-inserted the scene with Jabba in the docking bay of the Millennium Falcon, basically reiterating the same information established moments ago in the Greedo scene AND ruining Jabba's character in the process. These changes shows just how poorly Lucas understands the art of story telling and the character of Han Solo.

    Just wanted to say Lucasfilm did have the original theatre releases on film, they have had them for years. When George Lucas added to the films in the special editions they cleaned and scanned the original theatre releases in, and started from there for the special edition

    • @samuel-wankenobi
      @samuel-wankenobi 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The original scan still exists because in 2019 a school had a private viewing of it with Lucases Permission

    • @matthewgaudet4064

      Not true what they have is the 1997 negative. Tom Christopher asked George if he wanted a new protection negative of the original in the 90s and Lucas said no the Special Edition was the movie. Do the missing extra pieces exist at Lucasfilm yes they do but they would have to be scanned and cleaned. And the original would have to be reassembled digitally using the 97 as a basis.Though you would have fans who would claim its not original because using the original effects recomped wouldn't be original. Can't please everyone short of using a source further away from the negative since it has been already altered.

  • @Knightmessenger
    @Knightmessenger 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The original versions actually were released on dvd. Look for the 2006 dvd sets or the 2008 boxset that have 2 discs for each movie. They are direct ports of the widescreen master used in 1993/1995 so 4k77 is better. Or you could acquire a laserdisc player. Those have no copy protection at all.

    Acetone vapor will also take care of the "layered look" of the 3D printed parts. Put a paper towel in side a tray to prevent spilling. Put a glass upside down on the paper towel. Then rest the part on the upside glass. Next soak the paper towel in acetone. Then cover the part, glass and paper towel with a larger upside glass container. The vapor from the acetone on the paper towel will melt away the "layered look". Don't put acetone directly on the printed part. It will just melt it.

    Just a FYI for next time..If you clean the battery compartment and it is clean,instead of taking apart the cockpit,sometimes you can put the batteries in,hold down on the "power" button and just walk or slightly jiggle the AT-AT for a time and the motor will start to turn,may not always work but worth a try at first instead of taking the cockpit apart.

    Hi Bill, nice video, I like the fact that you combine these processes of hydrogen peroxide with facts about the Star Wars movies. The use of baking soda is new to me, but it seems that only the use of hydrogen peroxide is fine enough. As I mentioned earlier I use 3% pure peroxide on my figures. But I do wonder: what are the effect on plastic treated by the use of peroxide? Does the plastic become brittle over the years? And how soon will the plastic turn yellow again? It seems that I can't find satisfied answers on my questions consulting the internet. Hope you are doing fine.

    Peroxide does a good job on restorations of vintage toys. On my figures I use 3% pure peroxide, leaving them in spring or summer sun in a ventilated jar. But you have to be careful when figures have red tones, because they turn into yellow. You did a terrific job on this one, the X-Wing. Sad that the canopy is not as transparent as the original, but hey, it's a replacement and functions well. Thank you for sharing your childhood dream....

      I found the 4K77 version. People tend to keep where they got it close to their vest because of the copyright issue. I saw Harmy from Harmy's Despecialized on a video yesterday, and he asks people to buy a commercial copy of Star Wars before they download his version. I would encourage anyone who downloads the 4K77 version to do the same. The fact is, we don't want to screw Disney out of their profits. We just want the version we saw as kids available side by side with the Special Edition versions. I already bought all of the Star Wars movies (except TLJ and TROS) either on DVD or as a digital copy, so I have a clear conscience.
