One of the most aesthetically beautiful female bodybuilders of her time unlike what you see today in the sport of female bodybuilding where the women are becoming more and more like men from testosterone and steroid use that strips them of everything female. !

There is a mistake in the title of the clip: it is not 1978, actually is 1979. Precisely, March 3rd, 1979 in Lake Placid. The American commenters mention his victory in World Cup with Stenmark and Phil Mahre on the podium: that was in Oslo in a slalom, on February 7th, 1979. This clip is the pre-Olympic downhill race in Lake Placid. Leo David suffered a serious fall in a downhill race in Cortina d’Ampezzo on February 16th, 1979: he crashed his head on the ground and, despite medical exams assessing he was ok, he was reporting headaches, vertigo and other symptoms in the following days and weeks. Nonetheless he was sent to the US with the Italian team, and run the downhill race on March 3rd “to gain experience”. Unluckily, he fell again just before the end of the race, hit the ground with his head again: however that did not seem a serious fall, if the athlete was in heathy conditions - but he wasn’t. He passed the arrival line while still on the ground and got up on his skis. In Italy we saw what happened seconds later (not shown in the clip): he touched his head and soon collapsed in the arms of his fellow team member, world-cup winner Piero Gros, one of his best friends, btw. He lost consciousness and was hurried to the hospital, but the second fall doomed his fate: cerebral hemorrhage and coma. No treatment was effective, even in an Austrian specialized clinic. He died after six years of agony. Leo should have never gone to the US, and examined more into deep, given his ongoing symptoms. Or, at least, he should have not been allowed to compete there, as a precaution. In Austria, months later, a more detailed exam found there was a small hematoma in his brain due to the Cortina’s fall: that evidence went unseen during the clinical exams in Italy in February, however done correctly. Eventually, the second fall was enough to cause that terrible outcome. Sorry for my English, I write this note for english-speaking friends here, so they know this sad story; we Italians know these tragic episodes, but this is my homage to a young talented athlete, 18 yo, who was a victim of negligence and bad management from the Italian ski team. Investigations and trials went on for years, but eventually no-one was condemned. His poor father was a ski champ too, he died recently: his family endured years and years of suffering. He was born in 1960, just some moths before me: I am 62 now, I could live my life, but he couldn’t. Ciao Leo, Campione, Ricciolone-Meraviglia, we still remember you, we will always love you.
Grazie x il tuo commento!😢
It’s in English already

🤤🤤🤤😍
🤤😍😚😚
Jim McKay: "Looks like he's OK" Oops! Again, the symptom that caused his mortal collapse probably caused his fall as well. He just plain lost his balance.
Is it possible that whatever caused him to succumb also led to his fall at the end? Remember watching this on Wide World Of Eports.
I can't believe it, almost 40 years later and this popped up in my memories.

Great video! Thank you for posting this.
Gorgeous and Sensational and Lovely
Tragic story .. He was complaining of headaches from a previous fall going into this race ...colapsed just a moment later after the end of this video and spent next 6 yrs in a coma then eventually died of heart attack at age 24.... But for someone to win a SL race at age 18 over Stenmark and Mahre there is certainly a good chance he would otherwise have even been on his way to being the best ski racer there ever was ...
Tolle Erinnerung
