Winter Walk Through My Neighborhood on a Windy -10°C (Feels Like -16°C) Day in Dieppe, NB ❄️
Join me on a cold winter walk around my neighborhood in Dieppe, NB, on a windy -10°C morning (feeling like -16°C with the wind chill)! I made the mistake of not accounting for the wind chill, and while I checked the temperature and thought -10°C was still okay, it ended up feeling much colder, and I even got my legs a bit burned from the cold.
While walking through the cleared area near my neighborhood (where future apartment buildings are planned), I remembered capturing the stunning Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) here a while ago. With no light pollution and an unobstructed view, this area is perfect for stargazing and drone flying, especially before construction begins.
Through my walk, I noticed the patches of forest left around the new developments. These patches are a common sight in many parts of Canada, providing opportunities to see local wildlife like birds, squirrels, and even deer.
🌟 INTERESTING FACT:
As I walked through the neighborhood, I couldn’t help but think about the cultural differences between here in Canada and my home country, Chile. Here in Canada, it’s common for houses to have decks and basements, which are practical for cold climates. Raised decks help with snow clearance and prevent ice buildup under the house, while basements provide extra space and insulation from the cold. Interestingly, properties here generally don’t have fences, which contributes to a more open, community-driven layout. This is quite different from Chile, where fences are commonly used, not only for privacy and security but also to keep dogs safely within the property. In Chile, dogs typically live outdoors due to the milder climate and cultural reasons, but fences are essential to keep them safely within the yard. The presence of fences doesn’t mean there aren’t street dogs and cats in Chile-this is partly due to irresponsible tenants. It’s also not very common to walk your dog every day in Chile, so they usually take care of their bathroom needs in the backyard or in the streets, if they are allowed to roam them freely. The difference in pet ownership and security shows just how much our environments and cultural practices shape how we live.
I also came across a stormwater lagoon under development. At the moment, it's dry, but it’s interesting to see these kinds of infrastructure projects happening in the neighborhood. A stormwater lagoon is designed to manage excess rainwater or runoff. It collects stormwater to reduce flooding, improves water quality by allowing the water to settle and be filtered, and then releases it slowly or lets it infiltrate the ground. This helps prevent pollution and flooding in local areas.
On top of that, I got to try out my Feiyu Pocket camera in cold weather, and I’m happy to report it worked well!
I hope you enjoy seeing what my neighborhood looks like during the winter months, and if you liked this video, don’t forget to like, comment, and subscribe for more content!
