Super Sporting Event on 11/10/2024 at the Howard County Izaak Walton League's Veterans' Day shoot.
This was the 100 bird Super Sporting event of the Hit 'em if You Can at the Howard County Izaak Walton League in Kokomo, IN. I shot Super Sporting with a Blaser f16 shotgun and recorded it using a ShotKam Gen IV. The date of the shoot was 11/10/2024. Shot this round with 1 ounce #7.5 Federal HOA shells at 1290 ft/sec. I used Briley Improved Cylinder Chokes in both barrels. Shot a 70/100. Better than the morning score on the Main but I still really need to be in the 80s.

    Those are definitely US Open targets, they are not meant for high scores unless you are in the top 1% of shooters. Nice to see you doing some course mgmt on the hard true pairs shooting twice at the more reachable target. Sometimes when it is all going to crap it is hard to remember it is better to shoot twice at one than shoot once at each and get nothing. this spring I had a couple of zero stations in a very difficult shoot and it is very demoralizing but they sell shells by the case for a reason! get out there and build score on the ones you should hit and if you pick up a few difficult ones all the better. Best to you and remember, we all think we are better than we actually are ;)

      Ha. I learned a long, long time ago that it was better to use two to break one than to use two to break none. The thing that stands out the most is where the gun is pointing at your hold point. Even though you are FITASC mounting, on those low driven targets, try to get your gun hold point to be right on line. Most of the time it is high, then as you mount, it passes the line low, then you come back up to the target. It's oscilating above and below the line and you are loosing a ton of time. In your pre-shot, try pointing at the breakpoint pre-mounted, wind back to the hold point pre-mounted, then don't move your body, drop your gun down to fitasc keeping it completely level front to back. See if the shotkam footage shows you being more in line as you mount using that pre shot routine.

    All hunting shotguns, including semi-automatics (except for pump-action shotguns), are permitted provided that the caliber does not exceed 12 gauge, with a minimum barrel length of 66 cm. The use of micro cameras mounted on shotguns or any artificial aiming device is forbidden. Please be aware of this rule, as will lead to a DQ. Chapter 7; 2023 NSCA Rule book.

      @kylereckart9989 this rule is only for FITASC. It has been clarified many times this year. Rule Clarified on Use of Camera Devices The Executive Council has addressed and clarified the allowability of camera devices, such as ShotKams, on shotguns during competition. It is not against the rules for these camera devices to be used in sporting clays. However, you have 20 seconds to call for the target after entering the shooting stand and between shots, whether or not you are using a camera. Also, use of camera devices is NOT allowed in FITASC competition.

    If you can add coming from behind to your arsenal it will help tremendously with birds losing steam, slow informers, and going away birds. You don’t have to get beat by a ton, you can just insert somewhere near the back of the bird. Ben H. has an excellent video on it. I see from another comment that maintained or collapsing is your go-to, there are targets where that excels for sure. I had the same issue when I started shooting sporting, I wanted to stay in front all the time. Find a moderate crosser and insert behind and move through to kill it for practice, or shoot some trap. Thanks for the content, I love watching your videos to see what good targets look like. One suggestion I would add is including a short block of text that shows the distance of the bird, speed out of 10 (if applicable), and size/type of target. Thanks!

    • @Physics94
      @Physics94 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. I’m working on moving to a more pull away style. The collapsing lead just doesn’t work all that well. But incomers kill me. I need to try to capture more info on the shots, because it would help when I review them to know if it was std or 70 mm, etc. The regional was my last scheduled shoot of the year, so I’ll be working hard on the switch practicing for the next couple months. I’ll probably try to pick up another registered shoot late on Oct or Nov.

    You'll gain a few more targets per round by doing some course management, like shooting twice at the "easier" target of a true pair especially if you are aware where you missed the first shot. Ask me how I know about this tactic... :) good luck and good shooting.

      Yeah, I do that on occasion. I will sometimes decide to shoot one pair differently than others to take two shots at the easier target. In this case, on Station 1, somewhere in the middle of the video there were two black targets off a tower. I shot the left most target first because I thought it was the slower of the two. I figured I could take two shots at it. Didn't really make much difference.

    How did you do on the red course ?

    • @Physics94
      @Physics94 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shot a 61 on the red course and a 60 on the prelim. Both of those videos are up, too. I was pretty happy with both of those scores. Had the green been a 60, I’d have had a really great week. On the green 1, 4, and 6 really hurt me. I can’t hit a rabbit to save my life anymore.

      Ouch. That wasn't a good course to have a pinched nerve on. I went 61 and 54. Actually, it is pretty hard to shoot Northbrook under the best of conditions.

    • @Physics94
      @Physics94 ปีที่แล้ว

      My advice is whatever you do, do NOT shoot collapsing lead. I am trying to break myself of that with the help of a really good coach. I got to that point because I feel rushed when I'm behind the target. I still feel rushed behind the target. I'm about to post an example of two broken targets that I shot pull away and then one I missed because I fell back to my old methods.

    Was this shot with the Shotkam 4 at a less zoomed resolution? Ok, I just reread your info above! What was the 'zoom' set too? I enjoy watching your shotkam, it's similar to my own, but I noticed an improvement straight away over my Gen 3.

    Was this using the 'less zoomed in' mode on your gen4? My Gen3 it always seemed to be zoomed in a touch too much. I think?? Shotkam says its about x4 zoom. What was your gen4 in when you recorded this?

      It was the default settings. I do think it is less zoomed in that the Gen3 that I traded in to get this one. The older videos in the playlist are with the Gen3 camera and the same gun.
