What a thrill it was this afternoon to receive a text message from Mrs. Joyce Martin as she informed us that John and his wife, Tricia, were singing during your Christmas program. Wow! Talk about rewinding to "the good old days." Joyce and Tucker Martin were stalwart members of First Baptist in Starkville, MS with us. And, John is the same age as our son, Chad. They played together often back then, so it was great to see John once again, this time offering his singing for the Lord in your church. Matter of fact, Joyce Martin was a teacher in Armstrong Middle School in Starkville during the time when I was Principal of that school. And, as you can imagine, she was a great teacher! So, John has sterling DNA and deep roots....thus, it's great to take notice that has found a wife (seems like he and I have this in common -- we "married UP"!) who is a strong partner. Congratulations on your Christmas program! [Incidentally, perhaps some of the musicians in your church play in the Jackson Symphony, as well. Well, a very dear lifelong friend of mine, John McVey, was a leader in the trombone section for that orchestra. I'll bet some of your folks know/knew John. He lives in Lexington now, but is in bad health as he battles a condition for which there is no known cure. Thus, he's restricted to walkers, wheel chairs, and lifts. I take no issue with what the minister is saying albeit the opportunity for greater enrichment with El Shaddai, Adonai Elohenu, YHWH, God is the ascending of a soul, souls, to the Living Presence of God. His purpose for is for us to exist in his presence eternally. In that action provided humanly by the sacrificial blood of Jesus we are empowered as human flesh to directly communicate, worship, be in God's Holy Living Presence continually without end while we remain in the body, perpetually when we drop the body, exist only in our soul, in divine ineffable substance! Scripture speaks of the resurrection of the body when Jesus returns but human creative intelligence fails to embellish that spiritual reality, as it exists in a paradigm beyond human flesh/temporal/spatial dimension, in the realm of God, which we only know through our soul's connection to God! We can all agree that divine dimension is primarily Love, as we are told in scripture God is love, even as in weakness humans relentlessly seek a sign that God is present! Jesus tells us the only sign is the sign of Jonah, who spent 3 days in the belly of the whale for disobedience to God's instructions! What does that mean, if not proof of the Living Presence of God available to us when we obey his command: thou shalt have no other gods before me foremost; love your neighbors as yourself in secondary sequence! When we practice these commandments continually, God's Living Presence is with us. When we choose our own will contrary to God's will we are encased in the misery, suffering, fear, uncertainty, our disobedience brings upon us! We must, if we love God, repay his humility demonstrated to us through Jesus's sacrifice for us by ascending to his Holy Kingdom, daily, through prayer, service to his mission of redemption, meditation on his Living Presence, his Living Word experienced/spoken to our souls, scripture as revealed to us through his divine wisdom, love extended to human creation as counseled, guided, provided for us in our lives! Truly God is Almighty, El Shaddai, his earliest name spoken in the beginning of creation. It is through that mightiness we are drawn to his Holy Living Presence, without which we would know him only through words on paper! Amen!
