Hello! Here's a tutorial on how to make Penny Stoves. They are a great small and easily packable item that you can use to cook with when out in the woods or on the trail. I have also included some footage of me putting some of these stoves to use. I hope you enjoy! Sweet jeepers don't use those hatchets butt to butt. It's not only unchristian it's a good way to loose and eye. Not trying to jump your case just looking out. People catch me trying to end my lineage all the time. Best of luck and never forget to f
Did u see my girls grandparents house the Birchak house and sail and Carey’s house I got up there every summer and winter to stay at there house
We lived there when I was a kid. Late 70's early 80's. Many great memories!!
If you explored Middle Island, any abandoned buildings in there would’ve been owned by my grandmother’s great uncle, his name was Joe Roscoe. He would smuggle alcohol from Canada to America during the Great Depression, a time when such things were illegal, he would make a huge profit over it.
May be abandoned but they are cutting a lot of grass over there though
Wow I'm A 68 year old granny and I love watching this! I still tent camp but would love to do this for sure.
What is the name of this island?
Bass
You CHILL alot, don't you?
Just discovered you guys! I loved this video! I liked and subscribed! ❤
Those eggs are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow - very interesting & very good.
500th Sub!!
LOVED this video! Really felt like I was there, really wish I was! So cool!
The state bought those houses from the owners to make the island into a park. Apparently, they never tore them down.
Then the state bought them as part of their land grab if they never made it to a park.
Nice job on your campsite. I miss tent camping! Too old, bad back turned into a RVer.
Hey look at this abandoned house with the grass all nice and mowed. It's totally abandoned you guys. Ffs man 80% of North bass Island is private property.
millennialinthewild.tumblr.com/image/634119812243685376 The abandoned houses are located near waypoint 4 which is designated inside of the state park. Map URL above. The main reason they are abandoned is actually because they are in the area that the state has claimed as the state park. This prevents anyone from buying them and renovating them. Also 589 acres of the 688 acre island is public. So more like 80% is public land. Link to this below en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Bass_Island
Very cool video. I've not been there but grew up going to Kelleys Island.
That was amazing ! Thank you .
Hey man! Great video, I am wanting to go camping on North Bass this weekend and was wondering what the camping situation is there. Did you need to get a permit? Where are you allowed to camp?
Hey! Sorry for the late reply. At the time we were there, dispersed camping was aloud in areas that were designated as part of the sate park. I would highly recommend the trip if you want something extremely remote. It was an amazing trip!
that was an awesome video. I've been to put-n-bay and stayed on a house boat in port clinton. I'll be exploring another island this weekend. I had no idea that there were abandoned houses on these islands. I'd LOVE to get a little off grid cabin out there.
I think the state bought the land as a preserve and thats why all the houses have been left to rot
why did they all just leave??
why were tget ababdibed
You guys are underrated. Solid videos love the vibe.
Very cool adventure you guys had. Ahh, to be young again…
What kind of tents are those?
This was such an amazing video. It’s so beautiful there. I want to live there. Lol. We’re there any wild animals? Who owns the island and how big is the island?
Thanks! And we saw a lot of water snakes and birds but that's about it. About 85% of the Island is owned by the state and the rest is private. The island is smaller then South Bass and Kelly's but is still pretty decent in size. If you want a remote trip, its about the best you can do in northern Ohio.
Thank you for the I formTion. I am going to make it a goal to visit there maybe this year. Does the jet express or any other public boat transportation go there regularly?

I'm just curious who cut the grass near all these abandoned houses that u can just walk up to them and see the thst easy
There are a few people who still live on the island, and some of the help maintain the sate park area.
Another classic from MITW!
Yooo
I really enjoyed this. Have yinz been to old logging trail in North Central park of the state?
Thanks! And I haven't. Were is that located?
Yeah real shame that the State immediate domained all the property's on Nothbass. Used to be a nice island to vist. Flippin dump now. Thanks Strickland for ruining a nice place. BTW there used to be wild horses on the island. Had to buzz the airfield if they were grazing too close to the strip to land.
Wow that would have been awesome to see horses!
17:26-you guys can just drink the water without purifying it or putting it through any filter? Not afraid of getting any parasites? Not trying to be that “one” just curious
The blue thing that I put on the end of the bottle is a Sawyer water filter :)
ok just tarp underneath won't cut it...make shure you use sleeping pad ( foam pad ) and good fleece blanket on top😀
This looks fun I think maybe one day I'll do this
Heading up this weekend with a friend for a couple nights of primitive camping. Can’t wait, did it last year and had a blast.
Camped there (the first area) once with my old lady. It was nice making bacon and eggs around the camp fire in the morning. Passerby’s kept waking us up on the trail. Look out for snakes in the warmer months!
Just move on for free.
It's not trippy at all considering that 1. it's not a totally abandoned island 2. most people left when the last school shut down about 10 years ago.
Is this Canada or the U.S?
U.S but you can see Pele island from it which is Canada so it is very close to the border
Between carving tools and water filters, you've brought all kinds of neat little camping gadgets but you didn't bring a spoon?
If these homes are abandoned, why are some of the lawns mower? Weird! On the exit video it appears that at least one vineyard is still operating.
There are a few people on the island who I assume cut the grass and there indeed is a grape vineyard. All of these house that were shown in the video have been abandoned for a solid 30 years pulse. After further research I believe the state of Ohio owns the property were the abandoned house are located( they also own the vineyard) Since the state owns them no one can buy them which is why they are empty.
Awesome video! I'd love to go up and explore it one day, the island has always intrigued me. I think it's crazy that there's still a small handful of residents up there. It must get lonely, I can't think of a more remote place in the Midwest than that to be honest.
Maybe the owners left the island after the vineyard place collapse, they may have worked there. Then the state purchased ex. number of acres to turn it into wildlife reserve . would be interesting to know why they left though. Beautiful island to explore for sure . beautiful homes found there as well would have been a fun place in the good seasons . awesome video
I would love to know why they left. Its kind of a mystery its seems!
I am told they left because of the invention of the mechanical grape harvesters impacting the grape industry. It required less people to work the vineyards while also bringing down the price of grapes.
The old winery collapsed on middle bass island the island in between south and north hence the name. It was a very well known winery by the name of lonz or lanz I’m not sure but the whole building collapsed and it was a huge incident. The place closed down ever since now it’s just a museum/tourist spot. But if I’m not mistaken they used to grow grapes on north bass since it was mostly unpopulated and it was a short distance away.
Nice explore, I have a cottage on Pelee Island. On clear flat days you can the Bass islands from the west side of the island. I've only been walleye fishing around them but now I'd like to go explore. The place👍
Why so many abandoned houses? The answer is very simple...Time. Picture yourself owning a piece of land on an island. You build on it and enjoy it for a few decades. But then you become old, and your kid's have no interest. So they're left to decay it is very sad.
That, and the State of Ohio has bought 85% of the island (so far) for the state park.
😢
Why so many snakes???
They are actually and snake that's native to the island and basically only live there believe it or not lol
Where as I found ur trip very interesting ...I hav to be critical and say that there so much quite time....ur personalitys r non extstudent...don't any of u guys talk....I mean if this is a regular thing .....liven up man make it interesting...good luck how u can devolpe it
