Looking good, When you mentioned Pizza i imagined you were going to come up with your version of the plastic pizza saver that they put in the boxes to stop the cardboard sticking to the pizza. You could then use them to stack your boards in a plastic crate, may still be an idea to stop the lids of your cardboard boxes caving-in.
Spacers - that's a good idea, cheers!
Are you playing The Black Madonna campaign ?
Yes we are, not sure how far in we are yet
looking good.
thanks!
I can't say what my "favorite" WWII movies are, though I'd probably nominate _Tora, Tora, Tora_ and the first _Midway_ . However, the movies that made the biggest impression on me are _The Big Red One_ , _The Caine Mutiny_ and _Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence_ . I do have a favorite TV show which can be watched here on TH-cam: _Combat!_ . Honorable mentions go to _Force 10 from Navarone_ for being a quirky one-off for the actors in it, and _Grave of the Fireflies_ for its gut wrenching portrayal of what it was like to be caught in the days of firestorms. And of course, I have to mention _Kelly's Heroes_ as well for being pretty much _M*A*S*H_ style absurdity but set in W.W.2. 10:50 For the US TV show _Baa Baa Black Sheep_ they managed to get actual flying F4U-1 Corsairs, but since there were I think only six surviving Japanese A6M Zeroes and none of them flying, they had to use T-6 Texans, which at best had the vague outline of a zero. The same goes for many movies such as _Tora, Tora, Tora_ .
Not seen Combat, will check that out. Yes, all good movies, I do like the first midway a lot too. Then there's the The Devil's Brigade, that popped up on Tv the other night!
0:00 As a famous author from Rob's neck of the woods once said: "Space is big. Really big. You just won't believe how vastly hugely mindbogglingly big it is. I mean you may think it's a long way down the road to the chemist's, but that's just peanuts to space."
😄😄😄
26:33 In 1992, my SFB group all went to see _Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country_ . Now, notice how weak Klingon rear shields are on the starship diagram in this video, and how much damage just the photon torpedoes from the Fed CA did. Being that close, an alpha strike with phasers and photons would have easily doubled the damage and simply gutted the Klingon. So of course, at the part in the movie when the Klingon cruiser parks its rear right in front of the Enterprise, eight guys in the audience are yelling, " Fire. Fire! ***FIRE!!!*** " I loved SFB back in the day. Started playing in 1986. Never got to play a Starbase assault and played only few fleet actions. Large SFB scenarios don't lend themselves well to ongoing significant other maintenance, etc. The video game version, Star Fleet Command, was pretty good, but very limited. It was always disappointing to me that back then they didn't go digital with SFB itself to eliminate some of the bookkeeping involved in having large scenarios with nearly fifty counters on the map, automatically compute damage and energy allocation, etc. I understand there is some sort of online resource like that now, but I've not investigated any of it. The only tabletop game I played more of is Car Wars. I was much better at this one as I'm not as good during play as I am designing things, which is a big part of this game. With so many design options available from Uncle Al's Auto Stop and Gunnery Shop, I was a one-man Department of Dirty Tricks. 😁 29:34 Back during the Commander Edition era, there were many many published errata and rule changes in Captain's Log magazine, and ADB would often get asked if they were going to publish a set complete with all the revisions. They would often say, "when Doomsday arrives." Well, they ended up actually getting around to it, so the Captain's Edition is also called "The Doomsday Edition."
It is an excellent game. Lol at the guys in the cinema, that's great! I think we did one starbase assault, at least everything is fixed on one map. The largest actions we played were probably around 6 ships per side. Yes, add in drones, fighters etc and it gets crowded. Good point on the digital, you'd think there would be an app by now. I shall investigate. Funny enough, we played a lot of Car Wars too, with the old paper maps. always good fun. that would be another one to dig out, I'm now sure where it stands edition wise now. Some guys at the club play Gaslands, I'll have a look at that too. Cheers!
@@DragonsTeeth2 Oops, had to edit my original post. Got my Roman numerals backward in the title of the Star Trek movie. 🙃

'Herbert West is a scientist who is annoyed by death'...That, my friend, is the best possible characterization of Comb's take on ol' Herbert I think anyone could have conjured.
Haha thank you!
As mentioned, you do need to watch Richard Stanley's version of CooS again. I felt a bit meh about it after my first run through, with parts I loved and parts I ddin't like at all. On a second viewing, my love had not lessened for the really good parts, but I enjoyed the other parts far more, making the overall viewing a much better experience. And yes, Stanley has confirmed that he is moving ahead with his adaptation of The Dunwich Horror, making it a two parter. Not exactly the same team, but I'm looking very much forward to it anyway. Cheeky to throw The Thing in there ;) I can't figure ou how to arrange them in order, but I think my top five would consist of: The Call of Cthulhu (2005) The Whisperer in Darkness (2011) Die Farbe (2010) Cool Air (1999) Dagon (2001) Cool Air may be my cheat, because at 43 minutes, I guess it's still technically a short film, not a feature. Honourable deep dive mentions goes out to The Unnamable (1988) and The Unnamable II: The Statement of Randolph Carter (1992), both not great but wonderfully schlocky '80ies style entertaining. Could we possibly see a follow-up episode to this one, where we get Lovecraft inspired though not adaptations? I'd love to see some picks on that list as well. For me, The Thing would definitely make an appearance, as would In the Mouth of Madness, and I can think of a few others, but I'll wait with that list until/if we get the episode.
Ah yes WID and Cool Air both very good too. Yes, that's a good idea - ITMOM would definitely be on that I reckon. And some time I will go through all the HP Film Festival offerings too, there are some gems in there. Thanks!
@@DragonsTeeth2 there definitely are! Tranquilizer, a short I play in, participated in HPLFF this year, just to mention one ;) - Tobias Nilsson
Agree, my top movie would also be the HPL Historical Society adaptation of Call of Cthulhu, followed very closely by The Thing (1982) and I'd say even better when watched as a double bill with the 2011 prequel also called The Thing. I'd also give a mention to Col(u)or Out of Space, it's not that bad compared to other attempts at HPL movies, and who doesn't love a bit of Nick Cage acting completely insane and over the top!
Yes I need to watch CooS again really The 2011 Thing was pretty good afair, that's due for another watch too!
I had no idea this place existed. Definitly paying a visit when next back in my hometown.
Great, yes well worth a visit!
Lovely wargame tables, thanks for sharing!
Thank you!
Nice video. Feel paper/cardboard buildings get a bit light. Have made wooden blocks that fit inside, easier for modern high rise buildings, then older buildings with many sides. Have wanted to try making molds to make a plaster block to fit inside, but never got to it.
Thanks! Yes I found 10mm card very fiddly, but managed to get some reasonable priced MDF 10mm buildings which are good - the fort especially. Good idea with the blocks, I might try that too
Love the creativity! The games look like a lot of fun.
Thanks!
Light entertainment, light saber entertainment 😂 - Tobias Nilsson
this will start some debate, a couple of films in your top 5 Ive not seen, and you are right there are a great many foreign films around that im going to exclude for now. In no particular order, A Bridge to Far, The Longest Day, Saving Private Ryan, The Battle of Britain, Dunkirk 1958 version. Maybe you should try worst top 5 next.
Good list. Lol there was a follow up to Cross of Iron starring Richard Burton as Steiner (!). It is called Breakthrough, set in Normandy and Steiner captures Robert Mitchum then tries to kill Hitler.... that's certainly a contender for worst!
Thanks for doing this Rob much appreciated.
Cheers sir
Wonderful stuff.🎉🎉
Thank you
thanks for running this Rob, i can appreciate the work that goes into keeping the campaign on track and Im looking forward to its continuation.
Thanks Terry, glad you enjoyed it!
Great wrap up of the campaign, thanks for sharing. I've been following your campaign videos and am in the process of compiling something similar myself, albeit to run solo. I've removed the detailed map though, so more of a node map of interesting locations. Planning on making some videos about it soon. I'd be interested in joining in to Phase 2, depending on the time commitment.
Thank you! That's great, look forward to seeing what you come up with. Yes, that would be good, I'll get more details out next month.
This is so cool, it's making for a very, very interesting story.
Very nice. Do you do 'panoramas of battles?...asking for a specific reason...
Thanks! Not sure what you mean - filming tabletop? I do battle reports now and then
@@DragonsTeeth2 thanks for getting back to me. I was actually (badly 😂 LOL) describing whether you illustrated/did models etc of battle scenarios/scenes. Glad you found us.
YES! FFoL one of my favorite game rules! Wiley Games FFoL games need more attention! Great miniature wargaming system! Subbed!
You have to get the supplements, Tales of Horror, Bigger Battles(for ya know bigger battles, ha!)m Galactic Heroes, Fantasy, etc... Oh yeah, Wiley will have Victorian Sci-Fi releasing in November, too.
@@MiniWarMutt nice!
I watched that film you mentioned in your opening, it was on Paper View. 😄
Marvellous!
Hey, I've still got those WRG rules. They still play pretty well.
That's great, I should dust mine off some time for a game
@@DragonsTeeth2 I particularly like the "hit equals suppression" rule. Stops the "Tiger Rush" problem you often get, especially in games like Flames of War.
Yes - interesting that this uses simultaneous movement too rather than IGOUGO which was standard at the time. In fact, looking back at older rules it's interesting to see how much less there is in terms of activation, etc than modern rules. I always like a good AP chart though lol
I liked everything about this video. The table and figures were nice, the comentary may have been the best aspect. Looking forward to more.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Well, with a CoC Version 2 on the horizon...
It's one of the main tourist attractions in Innsmouth. Well, I say tourists... and attractions....
Nice job Rob, bad habit putting your paint straight in the cup (I used to do it, learnt the hard way) I do use some Citadel, P3, and Coat d arms, old style acrylics but they take a lot of thinning.
@@TerryWarden-u1h ah that's a good tip, thank you sir. Yes the newer paints were much better, so some more stuff to buy lol
Love that t shirt! 😊
Lol, thank you!
Excellent commentary, thanks!
Sounds and looks like a fun first try. I'm finally getting around to my 8th Army/Dak 28mm stuff and I had planned on using Bolt Action but Chain of Command looks like a better system for what I want to play. How did you find the rolling to move mechanic? Strikes me as a bit odd but also frustratingly funny.
I have Bolt Action, but only read through it, not played it. It looks perhaps more basic than CoC but that is based only on a read through. Yes, the random movement is a bit odd, and can give a varied result - I mean 3-18" on a 3d6 role is quite a range. It worked ok in the game though, added another level of uncertainty. In that respect the thinking comes more in the allocation of actions from your command dice rather than actually moving itself, if that makes sense.
I would describe it as, in BA you more or less choose to end up in the open. In COC you can get stuck or caught in the open.
@@thomaschase7097 ah thanks! I found this - it's a long watch mind! th-cam.com/video/4tHc6AGpO6o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ttu3RnFZZBJaPeb2
@@DragonsTeeth2 Thank you for the link and I play both games in 1/72 (20mm) scale. I like both games and for me personally, gravitate towards CoC. I think that the way HE is implemented in CoC, makes vehicles more useful and dangerous. The advanced rules for command and AFV combat also makes tank vs tank much more deadly, as it should be. I wonder if BA 3e will address similar comments. Cheers!
The random movement mechanic is a recurring feature of Too Fat Lardies games. Indeed many of the mechanisms have a familiar feel in many of their games. I play Sharp Practice and What a Tanker and its definitely a feature. The bell curve does tend to even out rolls in the mid range though, It must be said.
SFB,.. next up for review -> Federation and Empire!
That would be great. I had a copy back in the day. We took a few looks at it but never quite got round to playing. If the SFB takes off, I'll look at getting it again in the future.
@@DragonsTeeth2we play an online version @STNewWorlds. We even have some tutorials on how to play.
Nice one, I'll check those out!
Awesome! Would be cool if you checked out the new version of Rolemaster too, to get the "old and new". Rolemaster Unified.
Thanks! Yes, I heard the new version is much better organised and easier to understand
@@DragonsTeeth2 It is! I have run it
Great game and a true test of intellect to play well! It is still published and a large number of people still play it regularly in the U.S. It is hardly unplayable and has relatively simple mechanics. Like Chess, it is easy to learn and difficult to master.
Good to see that is still has a following. Ah, chess! That's a great analogy, very true. Thanks!
You explain SFB so well that your video deserves far more views than the 183 it currently has. Well done. 🙂
Thank you, that's very kind. Just need to find some players now!

@@DragonsTeeth2 will definitely have a look into that. Thanks for getting back to me!
Cool! I’m keen on picking up a copy if these rules (since you never can have one ruleset too many 😅). Have you tried Triumph! by the Washington Great Company? That’s what we’ve been playing mostly for the last couple of years and we find it fun. Easy to learn rules. It also has movement distances based on base width. You roll for command points each turn which means that you’re probably not going to move everything each turn but it encourages grouping your units so you can take advantage of group moves. The rules are for historical battles originally but they have a beta version of fantasy rules which is kind of an expansion and that’s what we play. We mostly play in the Warhammer setting though since that’s where we come from gaming wise. Give it a try (and do a video on it 😉)! Thanks for posting this video, cheers!
Lol yes, there's always space for another rulebook.... No, not familiar but will check them out - thanks!
