      There were a lot of people out to destroy Burton. If he went down, then so would she and she, being of the same caliber as Burton, was not going to let that happen. His translation of the Sutra was scandal enough and could only be released on private subscription. Same for 1001 Nights, absolutely not for non-adults. Had those papers fallen into the wrong hands then you can be sure that neither of them would have made even a footnote in history.

      Isabel burnt diaries, notes, everything unpublished that could have given information about his secret life. A terrible waste!!!

      Maybe she was trying to save his reputation during victorian times but yep what a waste of knowledge.

    The most embarrassing portrayal of the great Algernon Swinburne EVER. "Mountains of the Moon" a terrible flick IN ALL WAYS!

  • @guyveloz4382
    @guyveloz4382 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    "The Mountains of the Moon" was naught but a reeking dumpster fire of piss poor writing, and nothing that Patrick Bergan does comes within a mile of what Kenneth Haigh before him already gigantically achieved in every facet of acting. No contest!

    • @kuvasz5252
      @kuvasz5252 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      but, but for god's sake man it was Burton nonetheless on the screen! but you are overwhelmingly correct about Kenneth Haigh's performance I watched Search of the Nile a few weeks ago.

    What Algernon Swinburne says to Burton in a TOWERING scene of "The Search for the Nile" GOES LIKE THIS, LIKE THUNDER, IN OTHER WORDS. Swinburne:"Why have you given up on Africa, Burton? "Africa, it seems, has given up on me. In Africa lies madness. Men who go searching for the source of rivers are really searching for something missing within themselves -- and never find it." Whoah, colossal writing!" And then behold the sheer wretchedness of these other putrid Burton yarns. TOWERING DISGRACES!

    Kenneth Haigh, Kenneth, Haigh, Kenneth Haigh...YES!!!! as legendary Sir Richard Francis Burton in "The Search for the Nile" Beware of other, terribly inferior versions of the mighty Burton, or, as I call him, superman in a silk flop hat!!! Beware, on the other hand, of the nasty "Mountains of the Moon" 1990, I believe starring Patrick Bergen as the super human Burton in, alas, a super weak performance very likely not his fAULT AT ALL, BUT RATHER THE DREADFUL WRITING. so you tube THIS for now, "3rd Sir Richard Burton Conference - Shanty Baba" showing us FIRST Kenneth Haigh performing the volcanic Burton's fiery and madly passionate obsession to be the first man to discover the source of the nile that has destroyed or killed every explorer since the days Alexander, Caesar, Ptolemy who has dared to seek it. Then prepare to be let down miserably by Patrick Bergen's sadly lacking performance in the relatively infantile "The Mountains of the Moon"

  • @guyveloz4382

    Kenneth Haigh in "The Search for the Nile" gave one of the most memorable performances EVER, in any medium, and the brilliant writing throughout all its episodes is beyond the beyond, yet "The Mountains of the Moon"is all the other way, duller than hell, a sheer atrocity and abomination, and terribly disappointing. What a shame. Just take the "whores in Egypt" excerpt from "Mountains of the Moon"...which evokes, at best, adolescent cackling from that red haired fop from hell, whom they dare to prop up as the great British Poet Algernon Swinburne -- simply disgraceful if that is the best the writers of that film could do
