Polecat Wildland Fire Started in Our Backyard!
Just after 5pm on Saturday July 23rd 2022 the wildland fire named Polecat started just behind our back yard. I was outside working on a four wheeler as I heard a train drive by. A minute or two later I got up to go get more tools that’s when I noticed a huge plume of black smoke. I ran up the hill to take a look, and I started recoding from there.

DIY Custom Home Ep. 13 Garage prep and Slab
มุมมอง 4663 ปีที่แล้ว
As you may have seen in the last video, the house is all dried in. Now we will be spending some time on the inside of the house. There is plenty of work to be done however one of the first things we want to get finished up is pouring the concrete slab in the garage. I start by compacting all the soil, followed by a 10mm vapor barrier. Next is 3" of ridged foam for insulation, next is all the ra...
Roofing our Custom Home Ep. 12

MAIN FLOOR FRAMING IS FINISHED UP!
มุมมอง 2583 ปีที่แล้ว
As we continue the framing of our custom home we have now moved onto the main floor. So far we have had a very mild winter for Montana which we are thankful for. Come along and join us on our project!
Motor oil works best
No oil when threading and cutting?
No slip resistance on the flashing🙁
Bet you it was a OG neighbor felt sorry for neighbor….let him use tools….
Come on give him credit for trying…he’s hungry for work…but. Someone should couch him…
Please i want to have this knowledge what can i do?
What's this video for. It doesn't show how to do anything. The black drip edge and socket frame doesn't look that great being black.
Is it easier to fasten the boards for the picture frame (border) first, or at the end by cutting all the board in one straight line?
Looking back I think you are correct it would have been easier to cut the ends straight then add the frame.
Was the gas leak at the end part of the gas company piping/plumbing? Or was it a bad gauge?
It turned out to be a bad gauge that kept loosing pressure!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
The music bro.....I had to mute it. I always wonder where people choose the music from on these videos
agree, lose the music, tinny for my ears...would have liked to see the angle cuts with framing under too
I hate to be too honest but I thought this video was terrible. Some videos are too slow, this one was too fast and the talking did little to explain what the content is supposed to deliver. Sorry and please try again, practice, practice, practice.
Put the dope first then tape then dope and guarantee no leak And make sure you put dope on inside fitting also Did on my House project and no leak Thanks for the video
it is all depend how you put your dope on. There is no company make a product that only have to work with another product. Handymen and plumbers whom get a call back the leak that they left and thought of because of a product and then come up with different technique then spread them around. I'm not pointing out because this guy did a bad job, I point out just for other to learn. From the look of where his threading machine part. The end thread looks too short. 2nd possibility to be leak and majority of most people out there make mistake I have seen. Yes pipe dope supposed to be faster than tape, but if you paint your thread with dope that is not going to plug up the voids. When I said people paint, I meant people just dip the brush into dope and brush around the pipe thread not allowing all the thread fills with dope. You suppose to brush angle at the threads not along. If you think dope and tape combine is a must, then you should be able to go back the companies those sell them and sue them. And putting dope on the inside fitting would just clog your gas pipe later on the road. I'm sure your gas pipe might has restriction before a leak.
I'd be a bit wary of your tight 45 degree miter cuts, might be safer to have a 1/8" gap to allow for expansion, particularly for those long boards.
In winter they shrink a little and the tight miters open up to a 1/8, that’s what I’ve seen mine do.
I am curious how the expansion is possible when we face screws from the top. The board can't move.
@@1projectaway119I do them tight when it’s hot and in winter I’ve seen them grow to almost 1/4 . But I’m in Canada and we see minus 45 Celsius sometimes 🤮🤣
I hope your family realizes what a hard worker you are.
Thankfully they do realize.
Other than the train Love the land.
Honestly we don’t even hear the train anymore from inside.
Outstanding project. Hope you see the comments and know you have inspired (or scared off!) a lot of people.
I can't guarantee it but I do know that crowns in the treated lumber is ruthless. And if they're not all in the up direction you will run into problems like that with wavy floor boards. Also some bridging boards down the center of the deck will help keep joists from twisting and what not. Chalk a line all the way down the center and stagger some 14 1/2" 2x8s on each side back and forth
Yes, I agree with you, I should have added some blocking all the way down the center to help keep it all in place.
You can still add them if you wanted to you might take a little more time but still can be done. Still a great looking deck job though man. They look real good when you use a different color for the border or running them diagonally inside the perimeter but I think you need 12 inch centers for it though. I've done a couple on 8 inch centers for like a herringbone pattern. Had the stair riser lights, post cap lights and spaced railing lights it was laid out and mint, I lost the pictures I had of it pissed me off
Don't like the fast speed.....you can't observe at all on what you're doing 😢 and it's better to see you do it as you speak
Was that white plumber's tape on your gas pipes? Not sure you should be giving tutorials on youtube.
How do you prevent leaks where it meet the garage trim
The rock was caulked to the garage door trim.
@@1projectaway119 thank you. Doing a garage and it’s been a pain! What about the gaps for an inside corner?
@@Spiritledhomestead I didn’t really end up with any gaps on the inside corner, but I’m sure it can also be caulked.
Why is there blue teflon? the proper yellow one has higher density for gas.
You are correct I should have used yellow but honestly didn’t even know it was around until after I was done.
Is dry in done when windows and doors are in? Roof has tar paper and house wrap done.
Yes typical a house is called in when the roof and walls are papered and doors and windows are installed.
Does not really show you anything.
Gas piping is frustrating, when you get angry while installing I call it going gorillas
Thanks for the Info. I’m going to use this as a training video of what exactly not to do.
Doing a job like this on a house with siding already for the first time, how do you screw/nail the cap down under the siding? Do you just pry it back a little to get in there?
Yes exactly, try to pry up and screw/nail it in. When it’s not possible I went through the siding then caulked it really good.
Holy fuq dude could u imagine hand threading that 😭 could of saved so much time with a cordless threader
Thats what trying to stay on budget will do haha, if I were to do it again I’d be renting a pipe threader for sure.
Ugg... I hate anything to do with pressurized gas because you gotta get it so freaking air-tight. We had our hvac compressor go bad on us, and while I was still learning about that, the gas guys got new people who wanted us to replace our propane line leading from the tank to the house as well. Luckily we had a lot of the stuff needed for fixing such a problems, so for the hvac, I brazed in a new compressor I bought on e-bay, but I had a leak, thought I fixed it, but apparently still have a small pinhole leak. Bought some refrigerant leak detector the other day online, and waiting for that to come in. As for the propane line, I cut and threaded some 1" black iron pipe by hand with a crappy ratcheting cutter from Harbor Freight that did cut the threads, though it also broke a few threads off -_- Didn't have any cutting oil, nor was there any mention I needed it, but I did put some air gun lube on it and that seemed to help lol. Also the ratchet broke on the first use, so I just had to turn the cutter with a pipe wrench with a cheater bar. Put the pipe together with a good lp gas rated pipe dope (looks like the same stuff you used), and buried the outdoor portion 14" down. Pipe does seem to be sealed up though despite some missing threads; The gas guys came out, pressure tested, replaced the regulator, and fingers freaking crossed, cuz I don't want to dig that fucking line up if it's leaking. Also wrapped the underground portion in pvc ug pipe tape very carefully.
Ohh man, sounds like you have quite the project.
You just can't win eh ! Hay at least your still walking & talking.
What was the adjusting process,…. we didn't see that in detail. But thanks for the vid!
What do you mean by adjusting process?
@@1projectaway119 The joist heights relative to each other and the surround bracing.
I ended up squaring up the top of the floor joist to the top of the beam and to the top of the ledger board on the other side. Since I didn’t want to move the hangers I used composite shims and construction adhesive so they wouldn’t work their way out.
The gas line that was put in already, did the natural gas company shut that off prior to you working on it or was that something you had to do?
The gas company installed the meter base, but they won’t install the actual gas meter until the gas lines are inspected by county building inspectors.
stay safe man
Thank you!
A little too close for comfort!
To close for sure, but we did get a private air show.
Great work.
Thank you!
that CSST pipe has to be bonded to electrical ground
Why does everyone use the wrong gauge
Wrong from the start
How much does it cost
$61 for a two pack and they are 8”x36” so turns out to be $16 per sq.ft.
how many appliances did you feed off the 1 1/2" pipe? that seems oversized big time for a residential home
I list off all the appliance starting at 14:30. It seems silly but when you run the numbers they want it calculated at full load for each appliance at the same time. I agree it’s oversized but that’s what my calculation called for.
Yes we are armatures, we never have claimed to be experts.
Your hair sure does grow fast 😂
Thank you, It really does.
Very nace 🌹🌹
Thank you!
where is part 2? lol
sorry I still haven't gotten around to finish recording and editing it.
This looks fantastic! We are about to do a house with board & batten siding, and the sand color Versetta stone. Can you tell me what brand & color paint you used on your siding? Also, we will have black windows, gutters, & trim. Would you consider the charcoal wainscot trim as black, or is it more of a gray?
Thank you!! We used sherwin-Williams Super paint. The color is “6252 Ice Cube”. That charcoal is definitely a black.
@@1projectaway119 thank you so much for your help!
Just a reminder that your manifold supply and return piping needs to be 1” *MINIMUM*
Thank you AJ, however I think you are commenting on the wrong video 👍🏻
Your secondary loop piping system is to small. 1” minimum.
I have 1” until it splits off to each individual manifold, and that’s how the manufacturer designed it for my system, and it seems to be working great.
Id hire those guys to do my rock. Looks great.
nice soundtrack~~~
Yeah, but slightly too loud
Hi do you have part 2 done?
No, not yet. I have most of it filmed but need to record a little more. Working full time, building a house and trying to record it all is proving to be time consuming.
Looks amazing!
Thank you!
What a bunch of hard working fine men!
Ya, some of the hardest working guys I know!
