My wife and I are planning this trip on Wednesday to Saturday (1st week of Feb 2025) If I remember to stop at that little green toilet, I'll come back with some feedback. Thanks so much for these videos. The information you have given us about the towns has been so helpful when planning this trip. Accommodation, Toilets, Water and where to eat, must be time consuming for you to record and check out, but you have helped us a great deal. Thank you.
Thanks so much for the feedback. Yes please add comments with information that helps others. Really appreciate you watching, some of those episodes took up quite a lot of time including riding most sections twice plus all the editing etc. Peter
Great to meet you that day. Cheers mate
Thanks Adrian you too. Peter
Good Music choice. We've done this trail a couple times.
Thanks for watching. It's short but was a nice ride.
Best review yet bravo.
@@ablebanner3222 Thank you.
I own a Leitner Super-T and it's been on some shocking rough rail trails and it spends 50% of its time on dirt as I live in Ballan, Vic. A very robust bike, up to 7,000Km now with annual maintenance at my local bike shop, nothing's ever been done to it apart from a routine chain replacement , derailleur adjustment and brake blocks. I too load it up with panniers and take all my stuff with me including laptop etc. At the end of March I'm planning to V/Line to Wangaratta and ride to Bright via Beechworth oand back to Wangaratta over a few days.
Thanks for adding this comment. It really helps others looking here with making an educated decision. I have found the bike very handy and although I'm mostly riding my Dyson now another member of the Burra Crew is about to start riding using the Leitner. Very handy and folds up to a convenient size. Thanks for watching, always appreciated. Regards Peter.
What brand and size panniers do you have on the Leitner Super T? I have a pair but, on a 26" wheel bike, they might be too large to fit a Super T.
Hi I bought them on eBay they are probably a bit large but I made them work. Roswheel 3 in 1 Multifunction Road MTB Mountain Bike Bag Pannier Rear. they are about $70.00 for the set. I have a set of rock Bros on my Dyson which are clip on (better) but I think they would be too long on the Leitner.
Hi Mike, you mentioned that you have fitted an extended seat post to your Leitner Super T. What height are you? Was the extended seat post readily available? Was it the correct diameter, or was it necessary to use shims to fit the seat tube?
You should have taken a detour to Port Albert and have some Fish n Chips! Some of the best Fish n Chips can be found there.
Hi, I just hadn't got back there yet. Will be doing the Alberton to Port Albert Section hopefully next weekend. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the update, Peter.I am in a similar situation as you, I will give the backpack a go as well. And of course keep an eye on your channel in the coming weeks, Thanks and Take care
Thank You. I will be bringing out some more short videos each week on where I'm up to with the rucking.
Considering buying this bike. Concerned about the range of seat height adjustment. How tall are you, if it was too small for you?
Hi, Im about 176cm. I found the bike quite rideable but having moved to a much taller bike I now feel it was too short for me, certainly over long distances. However, I'm going to get a longer seat post for it because as a fold up bike really like it. Sitting higher will make it better for me.
@@BurraCountry Thanks Peter. Have you done the 100 km review mentioned in this video?
Hi, sorry for the slow response I missed your message. I haven't yet and I need to. But I did over 200km in a pretty short time frame and with a couple of 40km rides. I really enjoyed those rides, I guess the first thing I noticed when I got on my full size Dyson was that I felt like I was really able to apply more of my energy through the pedals and the ride was a bit smoother. Plus I had the Dyson professionally set up for me. But the Leitner I would still be just as positive in the sense of practicality with the fold up, it was an easy ride and the battery range is pretty good (I did get the larger battery). Hope this helps.
I also bought an extended seat post so I could do a full stretch on the down stroke when pedalling.
@@mikevale3620 Hi Mike, you mentioned that you have fitted an extended seat post to your Leitner Super T. What height are you? Was the extended seat post readily available? Was it the correct diameter, or was it necessary to use shims to fit the seat tube?
Mate, something you may not have known was the South Gippsland Line reached Woodside before it was eventually closed and shortened back to Yarram. I have seen the timeline for that section somewhere but I have now forgotten when it was opened and closed. You’ve got to give credit to those early rail engineers for having ambitions. The original plan was to extend the line from Yarram to Sale and connect to the Gippsland line but that idea never eventuated.
@@Geoff-m7j There is not always really clear information readily available on the history of all these lines and areas. I like to acknowledge the work that went on before and yes some really amazing efforts considering terrain and distances covered by railways. My main criteria though is to highlight that these towns still exist and are still connected either by road or trail and very much still worth visiting. Really appreciate you watching.
Yes a great testament to their commitment - I don't recall if I mentioned my swallow's nest above the back door ? I spotted a young magge land on a post 5 m away - the two swallows dispatched the maggie .I have a dead branch nearby that has a lot of users - a hawk [ I think ] arrived on a windy day and the occupants of a different swallows nest moved him / her ? along { was not sure how to reply to your reply }
hi sorry for the delay in replying. I'm out of time sync at the moment as I am in the USA. yep birds are amazing creatures.
@@BurraCountry no worries😄
Thanks for video and the commentary about the smells and sounds - and the different types of vegetation along the trail. We are blessed that the railway ended up preserving the vegetation types. I have seen aerial shots of the original clearing for the train line: Everything but the railway was Bush !! Except the rail easement which looked to be completely flattened !!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks so much for sharing this ride with us. Great to go on the ride along, how do you get the great drone shots ?
Hi, I've been practicing with the drone a lot. Still learning! Hoping to just get better as we do more and more trails. Currently walking some urban trails in Boston Ma USA. Would really have loved to have been able to bring the drone along, it was just going to be to much hassle to do it legally, which is important. Really appreciate you watching. More to come. Peter
I have one magpie at my house - when I go the car in nesting season it swoops and circles - never hits me [ mutual respect ☺😃 ] It fly's to a tree about 60 meters away. I regularly have a group * 15 -20 come to my large garden / and the surrounding paddocks. There is a spot on the rail trail heading towards Meeniyan - just past the Koonwarra Bridges - there were yellow tail Black Cockatoos in some old pine trees up to the right. They yelled out as I walked under and as I passed by and on my return trip. They also dropped pine cones !!!! Not sure if it was coincidental or on purpose. 🤣 *Australian common names for a group of magpies are a conventicle, gulp, mischief, tidings or tribe of magpies
Hi, thanks for watching and commenting, always appreciated. I'm impressed just how far a Magpie will go to defend a nest. I have taken video from a drone of a Magpie leaving a tree about 500m away and 120m (400f) below, it flew all the way up to chase off the drone. The avoidance system in the drone kept moving it away whenever the bird came close while I brought it back down to land. I also have reflective stickers on the drone which birds are extra wary of, so it never actually impacted the drone. Just have to respect the bird's commitment... Peter
Looks like a nice sentimental ride. Sentimental because those early rail lines brought so much hope and opportunity to the settlers that had arrived to start a new life.
Hi Geoff, I guess all the rail trails have the sentimental component about them. Doing research about the towns along rail trails has really reminded me of the importance trains played in maintaining and creating so many rural towns. Nothing made that clearer to me than Toora. The reason I have focused the videos on the towns and the trails is to remind people these towns are still here and not just worth visiting but need it. Really appreciate you watching. Thanks Peter
Only at nesting time Great Photo
Yes caught the action really well, didn't feel to great though. The joys of spring!
@@BurraCountry I wonder if the maggi / maggy was attacking the lens of the camera - I have a pair of mudlarks [Magpie Lark] that keep challenging the reflection in a house window - again at mating season. [ I saw one in a metropolitan railway car park - hitting a reflective car window [ only one car and left a poo each time !!!!
😍 I helped start the planning of this trail - with the state Governments help we built Leongatha to Koonwarra. I served as a volunteer for over 20 years. Congratulations to all that have continued that work I believe that the next link to Yarram has been opened in August 2024. Thanks Burra Country for this presentation as I am able to see the progress that has made. The last time I saw Nyora to Loch was by a rail car from Korrumburra
Hi, Yes it's a great achievement. The connection to Yarram is open it is episode 10 in my Great Southern Rail Trail Series. Thanks for watching and commenting, really appreciated. Peter
Fantastic. Can't wait till I pick up my gravel bike and check out beautiful Sth Gippsland
It's a great place for a ride
Good video
Glad you enjoyed
I'm thinking of buying one of those as well. Great video
I did over 250km on rail trails on the Leitner fold up pick. It was a bit small for me but did a great job and folds up small enough to put in the back of the car. It was quite fun to ride too!
Interesting Video thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching
Enjoyed the video...thank you.
Thank you too!
Great video, mate. I enjoyed watching this video - Welshpool to Yarram. I like how you showed all these little towns and the new trail from Nyora to Leongatha. Unfortunately, we don't see much in the media about the towns in South Gippsland, especially the Leongatha Station precinct and Korumburra Station precinct. Yarram is a beautiful place, and I appreciate you showing around these towns. (The trail is 130 km from Nyora to Yarram; however, some say it's 131 km.) It's sad to see no trains anymore in South Gippsland. It was a pleasure watching your videos on the Great Southern Rail Trail.
Hi and a big thank you. The original aim was always to point out that all these towns still exist, and they are worth visiting. The fact that they remain linked not just by region but also by the trails following the former train line is a bonus, and still a way to travel to these towns. We will be commencing on other trails now and will continue to have a focus on the towns along the way. Peter.
Does fridge/tray not 'bounce' up when you're offroad?
Hi, I don't really go off road in the rough stuff. But I have left the fridge in for weeks at a time and there's never been on issue with it. I guess too that with the roller shutter closed theres really not a lot of room for it to move. But honestly I can't say what would happen on the real rough stuff. It's in pretty solid it still has the weight of the timber floor keeping it down. - Peter
I’ve the problem of put the wheel… how you put the mudguard on the top of the front wheel?
Hi the instructions for Leitner Bikes are available on their website to download. You have to put the mudguard on in the right order with the headlight I think.
Congratulations on your purchase. I also have a Dyson Evo now showing over 3,000 km. Used for local commuting and rail trails. Super reliable.
Thanks Greg, It's been a big improvement on longer rides. Easy to ride and handles the trail a lot smoother than the folding leitner. the leitner is good bike but it was never designed for long trail rides. Very happy with the Dyson so far.
This activated my PTSD
Sorry, it is one of those things that freaks people out! It's just what Magpies do in spring... But wow it hit me about 5 times.
@@BurraCountry, as an Australian, I felt this video
@@BurraCountry WOW
This whole rail trail is on my bucket list for Oct / Nov this year.
Hi, thanks for viewing.
enjoy 🤩
I believe the Nyora station precinct should be upgraded to a public open space; it shouldn't remain abandoned!
Hi I agree, there is such a nice park there. It would be such a great extension of the park area. There is a lot of potential.
I am happy that something has been done with that empty land between Welshpool and Alberton-after all these years of neglect.
Hi, I agree. It's sad that there are no more trains but it's been a really long time and this is great use of the land. It preserves a thoroughfare for everyone and brings business and tourism to all the towns that used to be connected by trains.
@@BurraCountry absolutely, very disappointing that the trains don’t run along South Gippsland. I don’t know if you are aware that there are plans to extend the Cranbourne line to Clyde, and potentially Koo Wee Rup. However, I believe the line should be extended to Lang Lang, cause that is the only second of the SGR where the tracks still exist. Hopefully that happens, I don’t want the trail to be extended any longer!
Nice video. Nice drone shots. We need to go and explore, next time we are out that way. Thanks for posting.
Thank You
Have been watching these out of order but what the heck. Very relaxing and enjoyable.
Thank You
Me too -This section has tiny flowers on many of the wetland plants , absolutely beautiful smells 😇
We've done this RT a few times and it is one of our favourites. We haven't done the new sections yet but will remedy that in the near future. Enjoy your videos and love the drone footage.
Thank You. Trying to do better with each segment. Yes we now have an extra 22km all linked together. So will be doing right through to Yarram then moving on to the Bass Coast trail.
@@BurraCountry well done
Yes have seen Live work Play Video on this Subject. Still very interested in seeing how you do the build as well. Very through explanation. How did you attach the battery box to floor. Like the idea of that mode to hold down the floor. Does the GWM suck dust in through the tail gate. Thanks
I made up a simple aluminium box and tek screwed it to the floor
Hey mate, how did you attach your control box to the side wall? Needing to do that but don’t want to have to try and attach ply first.
Hi, I actually just tek screwed it to the wall. But I just installed an inverter and used rivnuts to install a plywood panel which created a much more stable backing. Im going to do the same for the control box so it's a more solid fit. About to put up a video I did for that install.
Great Idea explained very well a solution to not permanently fixing to tray. The rear rack what brand is that and sometime could you show and talk about how you did the install. Also noticed some accessories in the tub maybe you could talk about the setup. Another suggestion it would be interesting to hear your thoughts on your GWM and a walk around. Yes similar youtube video out there. Thankyou
Thanks for the feedback, I really like the the removable slide. It's worked so well. Yes I have a kings accessory box and a battery in the back. Yeah I should do some more videos on the Canon X. I really like it.Had now for 2 years. Oh yeah and my daughter had it for her wedding car! Peter
The rear Ladder Rack I purchased from Bosco, fit straight onto the Roller shutter (Savage Tech)
Nice video. Drone shots are great. Good job Peter. Meeniyan has been, over the years our favourite halfway stop, on the way to the Prom. Have taken many friends and family from overseas there. But have not been that way for a while now, so it is time for a return visit soon.
Thanks 👍
You can listen to the story of Lenny and his horse, and his adventure riding up and down to the opening of the Sydney Harboir Bridge on ABC Conversations this is the link www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/conversations/peter-lalor-rpt/10426046 Lennie's story appears in Peter Lalor's book The Bridge, published by Allen & Unwin Its a good read.
Thanks for this. I realised after filming that it was about the same time as Lenny's adventure that my father moved into the Korumburra area. He would have been about 5 years old at the time. So Im sure he would have heard all about it. Thanks for adding the link for everyone to find out more. Really great. Peter
👍🙂
Hello from the Georgia, US. This is great. Exactly what I am looking for. Thank you. Great video.
Awesome! Thank you!
Stereo has start well done Hope your wife has fully recovered and the E Trike is a success.
She is getting there. Will do a review on the trike soon Thanks for watching
Just started with ep 1 looks good, however your commentary is in Mono not Stereo sound
Hi yes, we are aware of this now and have resolved with later videos. But really appreciate the feedback otherwise we wouldn't have known. Been playing with different audio and mikes. Now have the app to convert single channel into two. Thanks for watching.
Hey mate you need to make your audio stereo
Hi, Im working on that. Ive got some new mics and still trying to work things out. But always appreciate the feedback I'll look at why that's not occurring. Peter
@@BurraCountry if you use Audacity to edit your sound you can copy your mono recording and put it on both left and right channels.
thank you,

It is magnificent countryside. The views in Gippsland are amazing. Thanks for watching.
Hello Peter. I just wanted to say how much I your videos I came over from W.A. in April and did four trails in Victoria Murray to mountains. Great Victorian aeast Gippsland & Great Southern I used public transport to get around hired bikes the Great Southern was my favourite I hired E bikes being 79 is my excuse Keep up the good work. Cheers Mike Thiessen
Thanks so much for the encouragement. We have big plans to continue doing these so stay tuned. Peter
is there a car parking near the nyora station? I'm planning to ride from nyora to leongatha
Hi, Yes there is parking at the end of the Park Area and the street running through the town. I dont think you would have any trouble parking a car near the trail in Nyora.
The Great Southern Rail Trail has just recently been extended from Welshpool to Alberton, so you can do the whole trail to Yarram and/or Port Albert on what was the Terra Rail Trail. I am guessing that you will be able to include this in a future episode. BTW, Nyora was the setting for the ABC TV series 'Something In The Air' about a small town radio station.
Hi. we added the connection from Yarram to Welshpool in our map for the Loch episode. I haven't been all the way down there as yet, but that is the plan. Thanks for the information and feedback, really appreciate it.
Re the suspension bridge - back in the day when the bridge was built, the highway was the Main Street through Loch. To get to the rec reserve you would have walked down, crossed the rail line at a level crossing, crossed the then-quiet Poowong Road, and the suspension bridge was the pedestrian shortcut to avoid the narrow road bridge over the river. The underpass only became necessary when the highway bypass was constructed.
I was wondering about that when I was walking around there, but wasn't sure if the underpass had been built originally to provide easier access to the Train Station. Glad someone thought to put the underpass in when the highway was built. It makes for really great access. It's a great village to walk around. Thanks for the information, always appreciated.
I didn’t hear you mention the length of this section? How many Ks?🙏 great video and lots of information- thanks 🙏
Hi, yes, we realised after the upload Id left probably the most obvious part out. It's about 6km. I will be adding this to episode 2 which will be out this coming weekend. Really appreciate the feedback, and thanks for watching.
it gets even better up further beautiful country side i ride it from nyora to korumburra and back nearly every day looking to go further on cheers trev
Yeah there are some great areas. We will be highlighting many as we progress through the towns and all the areas in between.
Very sad that the Southern Lights Festival was canceled. Hopefully it’ll come back even bigger and better next year!
