Pilots are made to sell a show to TV executives. The real show starts with episode 2. This is the case with almost every show. Just as with the Star Trek pilot, they get edited to fit the reat of the show later. Seinfeld's pilot is very different from the show.

Nahhhhhj EP 3 is TRULY where community is SET as community!!!! 7 is good as fundamentals on characters but I feel like ep 3 is really where people are hooked or not

I remember spotting the change on the Netflix pilot where they cut the interaction between Troy and Jeff towards the end that was definitely aired on NBC when it first premiered.

It has to be the syndication version. That clocks exactly what a TV airing has.

I haven't watched the video, but I have a problem with this episode. Abed is the autistic character, and this episode seems to show him experiencing hallucinations and delusions. Autism is not schizophrenia. I don't think it's helpful with all the false stereotypes about autism being a mental disorder.

I've watched both versions far more times than I can count. Glad someone created a video on the differences that has been bugging me for years.

Unfortunately, as of April 2024, community is no longer on netflix

Call me crazy but i would swear on the (german) dvd i have is a thrid version of the pilot wich is a mix of these two

Is it just me, or did Netflix used to have the original cut? I've only ever watched it on Netflix, and the first time I watched the pilot, it had every scene and snippet of dialogue.

This video kinda loses me when it describes 6 seconds shy of 22 minutes as 21 minutes. and 2 seconds over 25 minutes as 26 minutes. Which seems to be done to make the difference seem larger. If it were 21 vs 26 that is a 5 minute difference.. when in actuality it is only 3 minutes and 8 seconds.

hulu isnt available where i live, so if you hadnt made this video i probably would not have seen the scenes they cut. so thanks for making this video :)

A while ago someone recommended I start community, so I watched the pilot on Hulu. I really wasn’t into it. Jeff came off as preeminently skeevy and I got a bad vibe from how he manipulated everyone. I don’t think I even finished the episode. Years later I started community again because I had seen some clips that I thought were really funny, this time on Netflix. I couldn’t entirely understand why I gave up on it earlier. Yes, the pilot was a bit tame and Jeff came off as kinda skeevy, but it didn’t put a bad taste in my mouth-like Jeff was some How I Met Your Mother character. I couldn’t figure out why until I watched this video and was reminded of those scenes. Yes, the bit that Netflix cut do contribute to their character. And having watched the full series, I loved their weirdness and seeing them change. Still, the extra bits that Netflix cut served to make it seem like a very typical sitcom about a washed out amoral guy. Maybe I’m overrationalizing, but that’s what I felt about those cut scenes.

Damn, I got both Netflix and Prime, and I watched it on Netflix. At least I learnt about the DnD episode before I got to where it's supposed to be, so I watched it on Prime.

First episode I watched was the DnD episode it not only got me into this show but got me back into playing DnD

This is especially confusing. Is it also possible Netflix changes the version depending on the country? Because I distinctly remember scenes you said were cut on Netflix.

Now I feel robbed, because some of those cut scenes sounds really good. My first impression about pilot was also that it's too rushed, maybe few additional scenes would make the episode feels more complete? Too bad I can't check it out, in my country both Netflix and Prime Video versions of the pilot have basically same length, with same scenes being cut.

It’s crazy after community went on Netflix is got so popular. Almost every video you see now about the show are new

So they took the time to make cuts but instead of doing the same with D&D episode they just removed for "blackface" wich is incorrect cuz that wasn't even blackface. Man I'm mad it's my favorite episode and is the fourth best rated episode of the whole series

Yeah. I've noticed over the years that several shows that went into Syndication would cut things. Of course - Syndication is all about Ad Time - so that makes sense. The sad thing - is that I noticed for _Wolfblood_ when first run by Disney during their "Mostober" phase - they ran the full versions but the DVD's had the Syndicated version. My guess - has always been that they could fit more on the DVD's that way - but I don't know. .

They shouldn't have cut any of this

I have only watched Community on Netflix, so I never knew there were cuts. But now that you mentioned it, I think this is just something Netflix do, because I remember watching Friends on Netflix and finding that a lot of stuff have been cut from there too,

no idea bout your other content but that information deserves a follow and a like, only seen the netflix version till now

Streaming services should never touch the content in any way. Unless they produced it, do not touch, you area streaming service nothing more.
