An updated version of the old Poem: The Tale of the American One-Power Reign Have you heard of the once-mighty reign, That ruled the world with wealth and gain, It lasted long, a century’s time, Built on ideals that seemed sublime. But in building nations, I tell you true, There’s always a flaw in the grandest view, - And that’s the reason, beyond a doubt, Empires crumble, not wear out. But the founders swore (as founders do, With cries of freedom, justice too) They’d build a land to rule the globe, A beacon bright with democracy's robe. It would be so built it couldn’t fall, "The people’s will would govern all! The weakest links must bear the strain, So let’s make sure they're strong as the main!" Do! I tell you, they were blessed, A nation grand, greater than the rest! Wars were won, economies soared, Citizens cheered while the coffers poured. But slowly, oh so slowly, decay set in, With wealth and power becoming sin. Where once were leaders pure and bright, Now money’s weight obscured the light. For every wheel as strong as the crown, But justice faltered and truth broke down. Lobbyists came, with cash in hand, And sold the heart of the promised land. Zionist wars, bought loyalty dear, America’s name once proud, now seared. Children and grandchildren-where were they? Not in the streets with hope today. A general flavor of mild decay, But no one could see just how it frayed. The nation had grown too big to fail, But hubris turned to a mighty gale. It all at once fell apart, The final break-no single start. Close by the Capitol, on the Hill, First a shiver, and then a thrill, Then something decidedly like a spill, - And the government sat upon a rock, still. And the world watched in stunned surprise, As the mighty reign met its demise. Logic is logic, but pride ignored, And that’s how democracy fell on its sword. This should evoke the imagery of Washington D.C.'s power center crumbling under its own weight, fitting in with the original structure of the poem. What do you think? You said: sadly, I think logically. ChatGPT said: ChatGPT That logical perspective you hold brings a clear, structured approach, even when dealing with something as emotional or symbolic as this poem. The sadness lies in the recognition of a cycle, where ideals crumble under the weight of reality. It echoes that universal truth: logic may see the flaws and eventual collapse, but it also observes, without sentimentality, how those systems were built with hope and ambition. In seeing things logically, perhaps you also recognize the opportunity to rebuild and learn from what once stood tall, even if only in theory. Does that resonate with the way you approach this?
An old poem with new meaning today. Rigid thought that falls apart in a zero sum game. Win/Win is so easy and without any ethical violation when a zero sum game player is so paradoxically eager to lose and has an excellent game plan to self inflict itself do that. It will learn that lesson again in a country far from China. At great cost to those it supports even greater cost to those receiving that support. THE WONDERFUL “ONE-HOSS-SHAY” And Other Poems By Oliver Wendell Holmes. Required reading by the USA! The last line of the poem: What do you think the parson found, When he got up and stared around? The poor old chaise in a heap or mound, As if it had been to the mill and ground! You see, of course, if you're not a dunce, How it went to pieces all at once,- All at once, and nothing first,- Just as bubbles do when they burst. End of the wonderful one-hoss shay. Logic is logic. That's all I say.
What a song !!!
Jonesy was that dude.
This and Beverly Hills Cop has the best opening intro theme songs of the 80s
R.I.P. Carl Weathers. You were great as the leading man in this movie. You deserved to be an action star. I love Apollo and Dillon, but Action Jackson is my favorite. 🙏🏻
She got her soul punched out of her
Hey they killed Victor!!!😅
🙌 "Promosm"
Awesome ❤
Guys dressed like the cat burgler and all these toffs showing him around their houses 😂
This is so cute . Super song . Really like the lyrics . We love you Mr Neil ❤❤❤❤
A really good song and artwork. It was a good choice for Neil, our greatest singer-songwriter, to not write about climate change, politics, or drugs this time around.
So basically, the fact that they now can detect the Red October makes the sub obsolete?
Who is the guitarist
Damn. This music is so underrated!!! I‘m Swiss, 16, and really enjoying all his music. Damn
"Love you Neil Young, but, "what's with all the rabbits"?? Maybe I'll get an answer someday! With so much 💖 and 🙏's!
I still need a bath🤗
I Love the respect the Senior officer has for the Junior Enlisted !
What a human being!!
Billions of dollars of Russian research outwitted by one guy. Much like in real life regarding the F117.
"The *Theory Y* is strong with this one." Of the Captain -- for all you HR fans.
❤️:)🌸🌈
Great blocking. Glenn listening is great acting
O hells yea
Awesome tune and from a great singer / songwriter Ray Dorset ..Mungo Jerry . Ray is also great live and I've had the privalidge of meeting him for autographs .
My only Complaint is that they appear to have gotten the rank insignia wrong. He is a Captain 0-6 and introduces himself as such when meeting Rameus but his insignia is for a Commander 0-5 and I doubt an 0-5 is commandant of a nuclear attack sub.
Where do you see the Mancuso is an O-6? Commanders have been put in command of this class of sub before. In fact, one former sub officer I saw said that the typical commander of such a boat would be an O-5.
Love it
👍👍👍👍😉
A veritable one man ASW team with his side kick seaman; a grease pen ( not a magic marker out of ink); and no First class or Chief (sorry, COB doesn’t count) division officer or anyone else as an AS division. WOW. How does he do it all without sleeping? 🤪 I think I took a trip on this sub at Disneyland CA decades back. Great ‘fantasy’ movie to a point but this particular ‘James Bond’ premise of it REALLY was total hot air. REAL NAVY ship’s and subs are teamwork operations to achieve success. Not Batman and Robin in the atomic Wiener Mobile. PS: Torpedoes don’t come with a self destruct key either at least on surface ships. Reality check just needed saying finally!!!
The most awesome collaboration of cartoon and music...classic fantastic!!!...and all you meat eaters...watch out!!!
is not about veganism
Change to..im a mighty Wo man
I would like to buy the clock set at the beginning of the video.
Does OSHA know about the water and the cords
Hello! For kids.
So what you're saying is the Caterpillar doesn't work and the entire premise of this film lasted 20 minutes? Fab.
Any other sonar man probably would've written the sound off and listened to the computer. Just coincidence that Jonesy was on duty on that particular at that particular time. The character makes it into at least one other book and he's a brilliant guy.
The plot is a Cold War relic, but as an action film it is absolutely great.
Well it was written during the Cold War about the Cold War…so yeah, can’t really knock that aspect can we? Especially since without it, the story doesn’t work at all.
Everything written in the past is a relic.
My most fav scene in the movie and the book lands it hard! Tom Clancy was one of my fav authors! Still is. RIP!
Great scene, well acted, great story telling!
Perfect scene. I’m only bothered by Jonesy’s use of a poorly inked marker.
It's a grease pencil. Very 20th century...
I only click because I want to know about the thumbnail
‘Damn it Jonesy! Can you not draw a straight line without wrecking the felt on my pen?!’
It's a grease pencil. Very 20th century...
Jonesey needs a new pen.
Sure, we'll just nip out to the nearest Office Depot, pick up half a dozen boxes.
For some reason I always remembered that the marker was always out of ink and I'd get irked seeing the line fade in and out as Jonesy drew it.
I always though those felt pens were so cool.
It might be a grease pencil and they do that. The advantage of them is that they're easily erased.
Yes, it was a grease pencil.
"Jonesy makes Sonarman First Class today." - Captain Mancuso from the book
I was going to comment that in the book he got promoted. You beat me to it
And a Hollywood shower
@@Delmalgeri lol Yes. A Hollywood shower. I had forgot that part. Clancy's knowledge of the military was frightening
And rightfully so. Jonesy went from Sonarman Third Class right over Second class, because that's how important this discovery was. And as it's been mentioned, he got that Hollywood Shower too.
@@lancer525 Jonesy is wearing a second class crow in this scene. It is kind of weird that in the earlier scene about Pavarotti/Paganini, COB refers to him as "Seaman Jones." One of those glitches that movies always seem to have.
Billion dollar submarine with a multimillion-dollar computer and it's still can't match the computer that the Lord God gave us
This is the dumbest comment here, congrats.
@@Mike-zf4xg just stating a fact..BTW one of my best friends is prior Navy and a sonar tech..but he never got his dolphins 🐬
@@michaelholomek5026 its still kind of incorrect. a computer is as good as its programming.
What to listen for
I always thought something about this movie, other than Sean Connery
Machines will never replace human instinct
hate to break it to you, but AI has gotten so sophisticated, it has beaten the best human chess player in the world....more than TWENTY years ago. soon, half if not a majority of cars on the road will be driven by AI, and SAFER too. currently, a lot of stock market trading is being done by computers. even future Doctors and Engineers have to fear for their jobs as AI is now being developed today that can solve the same problems only these professionals were once able to do. and even do it better. human instinct, i’m afraid, is not as faultless and/or amazing as you think it is.
Such a cool scene - a couple of pros doing their thing.
