In early 2020, at the age of 54, I rediscovered skating, something I did a lot of as a kid (ice, pond hockey, rollerblades briefly in the late 80s-early 90's), up until around 2000.
This channel is just a place I started, as something to look back at, to see my progress over time, but I found I enjoy creating content that might entertain skaters alike.
I live in the Attleboro area of Massachusetts, but I spend most of my time skating in Boston, because it's got it all for the skating I love to do.
My skating is mainly fitness/distance, but I love to mix it up with freestyle/slalom stuff, too, which I'm in the process of learning, as well as creating my own style of skating, whatever that is.
I'm 5'-9", 140-150LBS, and I skate 4 wheel, 80MM, full rocker, at all times.

The only thing missing for the day, was I was hoping to catch SkateBoston in progress, but I checked Glympse, and they were heading well away from us when we were at the Charles, so we never would ha...

About SkateBoston-And Some Midwinter City Skating
U the man!!
Man I wish I could skate like you!!
I'm from Lynn, a city on the outskirts of Boston, keep the videos coming. Would love to meet you and learn how to become a better inline skater.
We can arrange that at some point. When I drive in to Boston, I park at Castle Island. If I take the train in, it's to South Station. I like to go every Saturday morning, weather permitting. Many Sundays as well, but that depends a lot on what I do on Saturdays.
@@Skating-Southern-New-England ok, hope to see you there
I want to learn skating too You are smooth 😍
Looking great man! age? Check out my offroad skates and powered off road skate setup. Did allot of skating Boston, NYC, Osaka, Kobe, San Diego. Don't forget make run to Central park NYC closed to bikes and runners weekends, and Wall Street early morning weekends empty wide roads fun place to skate too.
@@terrablader Thanks! I'll be 59 next month. I will check it out.
@@Skating-Southern-New-England if you get some wheels with Gabe he knows, ill throw down some. in advance for you. I got some 5 wheel frames with all red wheels its trippy as hell. 62 here hehehe.
@@terrablader Oh, thanks, but I'm not interested in skating unless the power comes from ME. I'm sure they are a lot of fun, but I'm having plenty of fun the way I do now. Gabe is a great guy!
@@Skating-Southern-New-England the kite skating is fun as hell. would love to do low tide on the cape we have pretty mild tides in San Diego
@@Skating-Southern-New-England I agree about being self powered, in San Diego we have trails everywhere but not such good inline areas, 0-30mph is 3 seconds is a rush trust me. I have retired that rig though too risky. The kite skating might continue i ruined my back Darwin awards. Now i just skate mild hills for fitness and balance.
❤❤❤❤😊I 💕 Love thank you 😂
Great video as always! Falling sucks, hope you get better! Creating content like this helps get many into skating I’m sure!
Thanks! Luckily, falling is rare for me, but I know it can happen, for whatever unexpected reason, at any moment. Protection works!
Really cool to see someone new pick it up so fast and having fun! Nice video man! 😎
Thank you! It's a lot of fun to see newer skaters like this truly enjoying it, while learning it.
He's going to get good fast. That was actually great for a beginner.
@@darkoale3299 Absolutely! He's got skateboard experience, so that helps a bit. When we started the day, we went at a beginner's pace, but that didn't last long. A few hours later, we were street skating, like street skaters do.
Great video as always. Looks like you had a pretty bad fall. I'm glad it didn't keep you from having a great rest of your skate.
Thanks David. The fall wasn't nearly as bad as it would have been without gear, especially, in this case, the left wrist guard, which saved me from a lot that day. All I got out of that incident was those scrapes.
❤
Love it! Bravo! It's cool to see such beautiful and skateable spaces. I'm trying to discover those around my city. Also, I wish I could find others to street skate with around my town. Other than wrist guards, I'm slack about wearing protective gear. Good on you for taking precautions. Keep it up!
Thank you. Over 99% of the time, I don't need protection. But just yesterday, after 16 miles, the last 500 feet was not completed without another fall. So yes, I'm glad I use it.🙂
nice video
Thank you!
Dang!
whoa
Such a smooth skate, awesome
Thank you!
Great video! cool shots of Boston.
Thank you!
17.48 miles! Nice!!!
I just finished 17.8. Not in Boston, though.
Hell yes! I never see any other quad skaters around my area, but I'm kinda isolated atm. Any of you into park skating? I am newb but want to get into it.
What you see here is park skating for this group. I don't know if you meant aggressive skating, but there are none in this group that I'm aware of.
🛼🕊️
When was this filmed, because the rink is closed...
You are correct. I'm pretty sure this was 2 years ago.
Some truly amazing skating!!
Many of us met just a couple of years ago, and since that time, we have all seen the amount of work each skater puts in to improve, and how it has paid off for each of us. I know I've seen it, and yes, it's amazing. I just love the variety of skills and styles individual skaters possess, and how they use them.
Nice video..what camera do you use?

I'm jealous of the outdoor wheels, but I'm disappointed that they're indoor wheels...
Nice camera ❤❤
Great clip! 👏👏👏
Great video as always. What tunnel was that you went through towards the middle? I like the blimp at the end as well. It was a really nice day outside today. Wish I could have went for a skate.
Thanks, Dave. That tunnel is the one we always go through near Storrow Drive. I can't remember the name of it! Tomorrow should be just as nice, so I'm most likely going back.
Great Video Kev, Keep up the great work
Thanks Nicholas!
I'm so glad this place is still lit... such childhood memories
Nice video ❤

Happy 4 years (back to) Skating! 🎂
Great video as always. Why was that 1 lady wearing 2 different skates?
She was trying someone else's skate for fit.
What's the key to street skating (over that mixed surface), picking up your toes? At my level I'd be getting tripped up or freaked out with some of those cracks n tiles
I was at your level not too long ago, and I was as freaked out as you about not just cracks, and all the surface changes, but rocks, pebbles, acorns, twigs as well. The key is learning where to keep your weight distributed in those skates. My weight is never towards the front of the skates (unless I want it to be for whatever reason), and my toes ARE lifted often, much of the time, while skating, if that gives you any idea. It takes some time to feel comfortable, but that's all it takes. (and practice) Skating scissored is also a big part of it.
Do you think using a hockey stick is a good aid to help with turns and transitions and to make you a sharper skater? I sometimes pretend I have one and while you are imagining playing the puck your body is not so sub conscious of rotating your head and torso etc because the "stick" is already rotating you. Has help me with parallel turns and skating backwards so far. Only thing is your posture can be hunched over
A stick would certainly help with balance and confidence. Good posture is important at all times, but especially for transitions. A good thing to remember, is: Shoulders over knees. Knees over toes. Keep the back straight, knees bent, with a pivot at the hip. If you can keep your center of gravity at the belly button, you'll figure things out rather quickly.
do you or did you have a weak side one footed skating and if so what percentage is it now and how to bolster weak side?
I certainly do have a weak side (like most of us), but ever since I got back into skating, I always spend some time working the weak side, SOMEHOW. One of the best ways for me to train, is the local train station parking lot, which is very long, and narrowish, with a slight incline the entire length, but it also slopes from each side, towards the center, so it's perfect for me to carve left, right.....constantly, at different speeds, doing different things. It works for me, stength wise. The thing is, the weak side, at least for me, at this point, is not so much about strength, but more about keeping that center of gravity on point, and that's where my mind can play games. If I'm skating well, I can do both feet, perfectly, even at high speed. Skating well for me, in this case, means keeping the posture just right for that center of gravity to remain where it should. If my skating is a little "off", I tend to lean a tiny bit forward at times, and that's all it takes to mess things up.
@@Skating-Southern-New-England A few weeks ago I couldn't parallel turn to the right (my weak side) but now although it is a lot tentative it's getting there. Only when I skate clockwise in a tightish circle my left shoulder wants to lean into the turn instead of what should be my right one. Guess it's continuous work
@@user-nq6jb8mb5k Yes, improvement in any area requires a lot of work. That big parking lot I mentioned above, or any huge surface, with nice sloping, is a great way to create drills on your own, to "work" the weak side. Figure out something you can do, over and over, that forces you to work that side. Never try to do too much in one session. Time, and continuous work at it, will definitely do the trick. I sometimes make myself dizzy when I try to do too much in one direction, for example. But it works! You'll see. I have improved my weak side quite a bit in 4 years, but I don't think I'll ever be 100% with it, and that's ok with me, as long as I keep working it, and using it.
Great footage as always. So many people were running towards the end of the video. Doing the marathon skate tonight with Dang, Daniel, and Gary.
There were a lot of runners out there today. Enjoy that skate! I know I'll be missing a good time, but....you know.
@@Skating-Southern-New-England I will very likely be recording the whole thing. Might not post a 360 degree version of it though... depends how the footage looks. I have a little mark on the back lens currently.
@@RISk8ers I'll be looking forward to seeing that.
You use a rockered setup right? 😅
Nothing but!
@@Skating-Southern-New-England I got some fr frx 80s so I could use a rockered setup, when I took them out of the box and went to undo the bolts one of them rounded because they were so tight :|
@@chrisplayz253 I've had frames (can't remember which ones) where the bolts were unbelievably tight, so I know what you mean.
Smooth footwork 😎 looks like a perfect day for skating there during eclipse
It was absolutely perfect for skating.

Greetings! I imagine it got a little darker for you.
I was waiting for someone to film some skating content during Solar Eclipse. We just watch it from our backyard. Nice backward skating Kev!
Thanks CSF! It definitely would have been much better, if it actually got darker during this shoot. It would have made a nice difference.
