2015 02 08 Kaiwara Classic How Fast Can A Sheep Run
มุมมอง 2K9 ปีที่แล้ว
About 30 kph it seems!. Note I wasn't deliberately chasing a sheep. I was competing in the 43km Kaiwara Classic mountain bike race from Culverden to Cheviot in North Canterbury NZ and it just took a while for it to decide to hop off the road.

Jack the Border Terrier has a bath and then plays a game of tug of war. Jack is originally from Maungaturoto (thanks Kerryanne). He the gentlest dog you could imagine -unless he sees rabbit!

Rugby Canterbury v Auckland 1983 Ranfurly Shield Pt 3of3

24/09/83. From Lancaster Park. Grizz Wyllie vs John Hart. Man of the match would have to be Victor Simpson. First appearance on Lancaster Park for John Kirwan. One great run, but shows his inexperience by stepping over the touchline on the way to the tryline.

The Canterbury team in 1983 were a good all round unit with the exception being the lineout where they didn't have great leapers. Wellington lock and lineout wizz Murray Pierce was punched and had to go off which some may have thought of as cynical play by Canterbury.
I was n't at this gamer
wow that is fast
I was at this game at Lancaster Park and here we are in 2022 where the great Wayne Smith, who's playing at 10 for Canterbury in this game, has just tonight coached the Black Ferns to a 52-5 win over Australia. This was a great era in NZ Rugby, the game was so much simpler back then when you could ruck the guy off the ball if he was lying all over it or take a guy's head off with a good coat hanger if he couldn't tackle properly. How things have changed.
so many legends
I remember that day I waged school that day to go fun part was the old man said to me don’t tell your mother lol
Kevin Cornor!!
In August 1982 I arrived in Christchurch from the US, and the day after my arrival I chanced upon a televised rugby match between two sides called Canterbury and Wellington for something called the Ranfurly Shield. I learned that Canterbury was my new home province, and I watched the local team beat Wellington for the shield, and realized that this was quite the big deal in NZ. I had arrived just in time for a golden era in Canterbury rugby, and became hooked on the sport, particularly when either Canterbury or the All Blacks played. In order to win the Ranfurly Shield you had to beat the holder on their home ground, and I went to several matches at Lancaster Park where the home side beat back several challengers over the next several years. I remember this particular match very well, as well as the army of Wellington supporters who made the trek south.
It is a sad truth that attendance died in NZ domestic rugby since the 80s. No one seems exactly sure why.
Great game! Great memory at the Lanc! I was there with my dad and brother on the embankment eating pies!
2:09 -Robbie Deans
haha Jock Hobbs!
Where is the 1985 game? This game was a non event lol. TARDED.
I don't have a strong opinion on Robbie Dean's coaching ability, but right now the Aussies are rated #2 in the world rankings! They were 5 when Dean's took over - must count for something.
Buddy, just take a look at the Wallabies' recent track record and you will see what I am talking about. Deans has an erratic style of coaching; he thinks that if he keeps swapping players around and moving players out of their preferred positions it will win games. For example: starting Beale at 10 and Barnes at 15 against SA = disaster. Deans seems to have an attitude of preventing more losses, as opposed to winning games. His back is against the wall and his time in Aus is running out...
You are, of course, entitled to your own - misinformed - opinion :-)
Disagree with you. Deans isn't cut out for international coaching. He should have stuck with the Crusaders.
Good to see the scrums the way they used to be - none of this modern crouch-touch-pause-engage-don't-push-too-hard-or-you-might-hurt-someone bullshit.
Craig Green was a bloody good player...he had a great world cup in 87, its just unfortunate he was overshadowed by the brilliant form of Kirwan at the time
if only he hadnt gone into touch
1 mill!
Bloody great to watch. Thanks a mill
@timmytosser Now its "Henry or Deans" deviding the nation.
....haha, and 12 years on it's Foster dividing the rugby nation in a way we've never seen before.
"HEWSON TAKES IT UP THE ASS!!!!" One of the greatest rugby cries ever...up there with "Bring Back Buck"
Robbie Deans....should have been a permanant All Black and should be the current All Black coach
That would have been the best try that John Kirwan never scored. There was a bit of tension in this game as there were plenty of Canterbury players selected for the All Blacks and no Auckland players. The Aucklanders were pretty annoyed as at the time, they were also unbeaten in the NPC.
Good on ya mate for posting this. I was at this game and believe Canterbury's performance on this day was one of the finest in Canterbury's history. It was also the game that prompted John Hart to employ the same fitness techniques that Canterbury employed and the results were plain to see for the next 10-15 years.
Oh - I really enjoyed the post though. My rallies are diehard Cantabs and my comment was a reaction of sorts to the 30-odd years of their bias! In those days, the great days of the 70s and early 80s, I was in the mighty Manawatu. Maybe Manawatu even had the edge over Canterbury in this era! So I shoudn't sound bitter.
Hey - that's a bit unfair. This was taped from the TV 25 years ago and is unedited. Back in 1983 TVNZ can't have been overrun with biased Wellingtonians like Sky TV is now. Mexted, Wilson - what a nightmare!
Typical one-eyed Cantabrian! Only showing your tries.
But Canterbury was the only team to hold the shield in '83.
A few legends in there - Brooke Fraser's dad Bernie, Robbie the Wallabies coach (NZ's loss, Aussie's gain), and one of the world's greatest Rugby commentators (renowned for his one-liners), Murray Mexted...
