I bought a brand new 1971 Mach III and I was 18years old . Jacks Go Shop San Bruno Calif. I went on the Marine City Sunday morning ride rain or shine., back them the with Bill Boyd, Bill Super spook Judkins big John and many other excellent AFM riders the Sunday morning ride was almost the mini Isle of Mann TT. I spent more time at WOT that I should admit. Preload the fork springs, thicker fork oil longer rear shocks , drop handle bars the low bars are a necessity and a steering damper and i tooth larger engine chain sprocket and the bike was stable at 125mph as indicated. Spent lots of time at 125 mph. . Widow maker no not really, a bike for idiots no the Mach !III was unforgiving to stupidity. The Mach III while in to days standards is not to par but it was the most favorite bike I ever owned. The biggest negative was the width of the bike lean angle was severely limited.

God dude your speaking cadence is unbearable. I get you gotta squeeze it for length but you can talk a little bit faster and it'll be ok. By the way it doesn't use a jet turbine. It's a turboshaft from a helicopter aka no jet or thrust propulsion or whatever since y'know it's spinning a shaft. If your whole schtick is to cover rare motorcycles, you should be at least sort of knowledgeable about this stuff.

The Honda Hawk NT650 also had a crankshaft with offset crankpins. Making it a very smooth ride, even with less than 90 degrees between cylinders.

If you’re not convinced that this bike was ground breaking Randakk used one of Magnachargers superchargers, and on a pretty conservative tune, they made a 0 - 60 of 2.6 seconds, which goes toe to toe with a Suzuki Hayabusa.

If you read the book 'Whatever happened to the Brittish motorcycle industry' by Bert Hoptwood, it goes into detail about the Trident/Rocket 3's failure due to a lot of politics and pressure for returns by share holders. The whole book tells of the failure of the industry as a whole - starting before the second world war !

Did not like corners too much. The swing-arm Bushes would wear easily., creating a disconnected feeling. And when you dropped the front forks by an Inch, and used a softer front tyre, things were better. Loved the motor, though. Screamed like a Banshee, throughout the range. Unkilllable.

Rode a diamond sky blue '77 KZ1000 back in '78. Brought it to Fremont dragstrip and ran an 11.8 at 110. Just an exhaust and jetting. Fast for then. Reeled in GS1000's, XS 11's, Kawi 750 triples. Just as fun as my current naked bikes. Miss it dearly.

I had one as a daily driver for many years. I am lucky 2nd gear never expired. When the power hit in 1st gear, it instantly whackeed into the rev limiter. And a hasty shift to 2nd gear was usually didn’t go well resulting in a mis-shift. This was much less pronounced in higher gears.
