You know that for years prior to writing this, some writer was walking around comically singing "Dr. Zaius," to the tune of "Amadeus." Also worth note "Want a second opinion." "You're also lazy," was more clever than I want to admit.
I've said it before and I'll say it again; it is a sign that we live in an inadequate and unjust universe that Gladys the Groovy Mule is not a real movie.
Funfact: The Dr. Zaius Song was based on an austrian Popsong called "Rock me Amadeus" wich is about Mozart. dont belive me? See for your self: th-cam.com/video/cVikZ8Oe_XA/w-d-xo.html
The fact that this was never submitted as Phil Hartman’s Emmy Episode, and him never being nominated or winning for The Simpsons is an Absolute Crime. This Episode would have won him his Emmy
It’s just perfect, man. The stilted opening dialogue. The apes serenading Dr Zaus who remains totally indifferent. The sweaty joke about the piano. The squeaky wheels of the piano. The fact that one of the apes starts moonwalking. The ChimpanZ line. The rushed final reveal that couldn’t be further than Heston’s version. The big campy men’s chorus joining Troy at the end. The fact the audience goes absolutely mental. It’s just the best.
And we still haven't gotten an actual comedic musical based on Planet Of The Apes? For shame, humanity! For shame! Also, as great as the Dr. Zaius song is, You'll Never Make A Monkey Out Of Me is also incredible and needs more love.
How things change. To pass it as a low-budget cash-in for Troy McClure, they picked the most dead and forgotten franchise possible as theme for the musical. Fast forward to 2020s and every franchise from the past seems to be active in some form.
I just watched the original series for the first time this week and I couldn't stop thinking of this stupid song the entire time. lol. It's truly an earworm and a stroke of genius.
An absolute classic! I love you Dr Zeus

I would pay good money for someone to actually produce this... This episode has been living rent free in my head for decades...
"DOWN IN FRONT!"
Took me years to realize that the background song was a falco song.
Sometimes I just wish there was a full planet of the apes musical that I can listen to
I would watch the hell out of this musical.....
Now that Disney owns The Simpsons they need to make a real version of this for the theme parks, just like they did with Rogers: The Musical
He's the New JUDAS

Great video. Driving rn
Love the Amadeus / Dr. Zaius rhyme!
You know, Disney now owns the rights to both The Simpsons AND Planet of the Apes...I'm just sayin.
Down in front!
That last line... I love you Dr Zaius! It has no meaning.

Dr Zaius's face at 0:53 always cracks me up.
R.I.P To A Great Actor Comedian Phil Hartman, Still Miss You
I'd totally pay to see that, why hasn't no one done it yet?
0:01 Planet of the Apes:the musical.😂
Every time they make another Planet of the Apes movie I just think of this scene. This is the ultimate manifestation of the idea.
The Dr Zaius song lives rent free in my head.
DOWN IN-FRONT!

"YOU MANIACS!!!"

"Down in front!" omg!

When is this show coming to my town? I wanna go, dammit!
Down in Front
Now that Disney owns both The Simpsons and The Planet Of The Apes franchise, they could actually make this a reality. Disney make it happen
The contrived, awkward lyrics shoehorned in out of desperation to make it rhyme. Its so bad its good.
Watching this has made me truly understand a reason for any property to become a musical
Wish Phil Hartman hadn't been murdered by his wife back in 1998.😮😢
How things change. To pass it as a low-budget cash-in for Troy McClure, they picked the most dead and forgotten franchise possible as theme for the musical. Fast forward to 2020s and every franchise from the past seems to be active in some form.
Phill's voice was amazing!!!
They won't make a monkey out of me 😂
*I LOVE YOU, DR. ZAIUS!*
This is honestly a perfect parody of pointless and/or low quality musicals based on existing properties.
I just watched the original series for the first time this week and I couldn't stop thinking of this stupid song the entire time. lol. It's truly an earworm and a stroke of genius.
What’s the name of this episode
