This channel will contain videos of my current HO scale layout based on the ICG and Conrail set around Effingham, IL 1976-1978. It also has videos of my previous Lehigh Valley layout.

Switching Centralia Yard
มุมมอง 2364 หลายเดือนก่อน
We have reached a point in construction of the layout where it’s time to test and modify before operations begin. Here is an ex-Southern SD24, bought by the ICG and put in service before going through a rebuild program. It Is working in Centralia yard, switching cars into north or south blocks for pickup.
ICG Layout tour, 2 year construction

After 2 years of construction, the first operation session was held and I made this video to show the layout.

The race to Centrailia yard. Testing trains. Notice the new Walther’s DM&IR SD9’s. The ICG leased them winters when it was too cold to run taconite trains.
Lift bridge operation
มุมมอง 1.2K9 หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the list bridge that connects the Hi-Dry to Effingham. It is normally kept open during operations but closed when a train needs to cross the bridge to the main part of the layout.
First ICG mainline run

Two ICG trains

Two ICG trains running on the layout. The first is off the Freeport branch, southbound approaching Centrailia. The second train is southbound through Ashley, IL

Very nice switching ops 👍
It's nice to see well laid track with roadbed on a helix rather than the increasingly common track-screwed-to-bare-plywood approach.. Seems to operate well and certainly no indication of any kinks or other alignment problems. Nicely done.
@@68Jaguar420G thanks. This isn’t the first helix I built and I’ve learned from previous attempts. The key is getting a smooth transition on the first lap and then keeping it consistent going up. And test each level while you can fix any problems before the next level is added. Always test with the highest and longest cars that will be run.
I like that kitbashed industry at the beginning. Very interesting!
@@KandWRailroader it’s my version of Monsanto. I couldn’t find a picture of the prototype so I just combined several past projects from my last layout.
Dig the hand throws.

mark awesome layout new sub and bell my Friend.😊😊👍👍
Love the layout and love Southern Illinois!
Just stumbled across this video. Looks like a nice layout with lots of beautiful stuff going on! Subscribed.
Thanks. The layout has been under contraction for about 2 years. But this isn't my first time building one this size.
Very nice.
Thanks. It’s a fun run!
Looks great Mark!
Thanks!
Looks great Mark!!
Before Metra the Illinois Central ran two electric commuter rail services using Pullman made cars on the south side of Chicago Starting at the terminal under the Prudential Building / Main Public Library going to the far southeast side of Chicago. I used it many a Saturday to go downtown during Highschool and to Highschool city football games at Soldier Field (1965-1969). I would like to find those commuter cars in N scale for my collection. The closest track was two blocks from my house and its freight loads carried coal, scrap metals, and water purification supplies for the filtration plant at 79th street. US Steal South works was also still in operation at that time.
Huge layout. Will look great once you make a start on the scenery. Happy Modelling
Yes. I just got a delivery of scenery supplies to start covering the plywood!
Great video. It looks like an awesome railroad to run on. Makes me wonder while anyone is still messing around with HO (Ha!).
Very nice. Good to see early Amtrak on a layout. The helix is well made and can handle some traffic! Doc Tom
super projekt czekam na reszte projektu masz jakies niepotykane lkomotywy?
Thanks for your comment. I will post updates as we complete more of the layout. I have lots of locomotives and freight cars, serval are kit bashed and custom. I will try to include some in future videos.
Great video, Mark! I am really impressed with this overall build and the attention to detail. Good to see your progress and how far you've come in just a few years. I'm going to share this video with Clarksville model train club so they can see the elegant simple lift outs you use for crossing the doorway. We continue to struggle with our doorway crossings at the club. Looking forward to more of your posts Dr. Tom.
@@tomgrabenstein2741 thanks Tom. I had a different system to lift up all 4 levels above the door. The shelves were on tracks which proved in operation very difficult to manage unless the shelves were perfectly level and aligned. After much adjustments and attempts to fix the guides, it was scrapped and this works much easier. They can be installed and in place in just a minute or two.
@@ICG-Conrail1976 Thanks Mark. I will share this with the club members. Doc Tom
Loved your last layout, and I’m looking forward to seeing this new one come together.
@@MMRails me too! I learned a lot of the last layout which has helped building this one.
Good video Mark, don't sell your video skills short. I'm modeling Centralia IL in the 1955-1960 time frame. I live about 15 miles north of Centralia and the mainline is 100 yards out my front door. I've been doing extensive research for my layout. If you need photos, track plans just let me know, always happy to help out a fellow IC modeler.
@@jeffwhite3679 thanks Jeff. I’ve got the IC track charts and industry guide so that helps. I don’t have photos of most of the industries, so I am just winging it!
@@ICG-Conrail1976 Let me know what photos you need and I’ll see what I have. I’m getting ready to make another trip to the Centralia Area Museum and I can check there too.

Thank you for sharing. Nice.👍
I would have built that without the safety latch, then one night a slight breeze would make it drop and create a loud bang and scare me half to death. Great idea! And you don’t even need a password to make it drop!
Looks good.
Hi, Great trains, I sub to your channel, stay connected and take care, cheers, Fabrizio - like 41
Great video. I subscribed to your channel as well!
100% AWESOME!
It’s taking shape!
nice layout
Thanks. It’s been under construction for about 18 months.

Love the ICG layout so far. You still have the Lehigh valley layout?
No. The LV layout is gone and replaced by the ICG-Conrail Layout.
Are those the new scale Trains ICGs? If so lucky you. I am looking for a few myself.
No these are GP10’s from Intermountain from a few years ago. I do have the Scale Trains SD40-2 on order.
Nice Mark! Love the Precision geep…
Thank you for sharing. The staging looks nice, how many trains and number of cars?
23 staging tracks. Probably 22 cars avg, plus 3 engines and a caboose.
Thank you for sharing. nice and smooth.👍
Thank you
Hate Genes political views,Pauls voice is not so great anymore, music is just ok.LOVED every minute of the show when they came to Syracuse last year and will pay to see them if they make it here again!
End of the road should end with a residency at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
Hi Mark! I'm also modeling Centralia but in 1955-1960 time frame. Looking forward to seeing more of your work.
Thank you for sharing. Nice👍
Congrats on your progress............. Really like the cut of 86' box cars, especially the DTI magenta cars........ and the ROCK blue box car............ Are the 86' cars earlier Athearn or Walthers cars or the recent Tangent cars? Looking forward to more progress on your RR.
Mostly Tangent. The DT&I are Walther’s and the Ann Arbor is a custom painted Athearn from the early 90’s.
Awesome Mark! Looks like the size of a club layout 👍
It keeps me busy! It’s about 36’x36’ and it’s doubled decked.
When will we get to see more of the new layout? Also glad you kept your LV stuff.
The de-construction of the old layout and building of the new has kept me busy. I haven't made any videos in a while because the train room looks like a tornado came though and looking at benchwork and plywood isn't too exciting. Hopefully soon I will get to a point I will do a walking tour around the new layout. Thanks!

Is the train coming through the wall or through a divider? Took me awhile to realize what was happening. You filmed it in such a way that it looks like the train is just appearing from nowhere. Neat.
Thank you for sharing. Nice.
