If You Feel Sad, Low, Lost, Just... Walk! | Kyiv’s 1-Hour Route to Feel Better
Promoting walks around Kyiv feels like the most important goal of this vlog! 😊 Not only because Kyiv is full of stunning architecture, magnificent landscapes, and an overall amazing vibe, but also because I believe in the transformative power of walking itself. Walking calms your thoughts and shifts your focus to the beauty of your surroundings, helping you connect more deeply with your city.
Today, I’m excited to take you along one of the most popular walking routes in Kyiv! In just one hour, we’ll visit some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, including the Golden Gates, St. Sophia Cathedral, St. Michael’s Cathedral, St. Volodymyr’s Hill, Podil, Kontraktova Square, and the famous Zhovten cinema. This route takes you on a journey from the Upper City to the Lower City of Kyiv, giving you a rich taste of the city's charm and history.
We were lucky today to see Kyiv lightly covered in snow! Even though it’s already January 11, there’s still a touch of Christmas magic in the air, adding joy to our daily lives.
Thank you for joining me on this walk around Kyiv! I truly hope that one day you’ll have the chance to explore these Kyiv routes yourself and discover why Kyiv is one of the most beautiful cities in Ukraine.
With love,
Kyiv Dreamer,
Olga

Nice little walk. Thank you How do cinemas work with older films, do they prefer subtitles or dubbing ?
Thank you! It is actually something rare, it's called Retro Week in this cinema. This one was with Ukrainian dubbing but they do show in the original language quite often.
Dankjewel voor het laten zien van jou wijk, jou thuis…! Heel mooi♥️
Hartelijk dank, Juliet! Het is zo lief om deze comment van je te ontvangen! ♥

Oui! I totally agree :)
You just motivated me to get out the door and walk tomorrow. I've missed the last two days. Great places you showed us especially that high point that looks down on the river. Does that Podil area have all of those colorful residences that look like Lego blocks? You certainly love your coffee 😄
Yes, Podil has this coloful part (which I din't show in this video), it's called Vozdvizhenka. It does look like a "fairytale" area :) Thank you for your comment! It makes me so happy if these videos can motivate someone to go out, walk, and feel better!
I really like watching your videos. I want to meet you. Will you meet me and talk to me? I want to talk to you. I like you a lot.

A very old movie?.... Orlando? It was only '92.... Man alive.... well.... hope you enjoyed it.... it's always been one of my favourites (ever since I saw it in first run... in my 20s.... very old...... --sigh--)
I did enjoyed it! Especially visual part and of course Tilda :) Didn't mean to offend the movie and its age :) I think it's the first time I went to the cinema to watch retro movies :)
Nice tour, Olga, I liked seeing the view from St. Volodymyr's Hill; the funicular would be enjoyable, too. I live in the woods, so I enjoy walking in the woods.
Walking in the woods sounds so peaceful! For that, we need to go to the countryside :) If you come here one day, definitely go to St. Volodymyr's Hill, especially to meet the sunrise :)
Hi Olga. Nice Golden Gate. It reminds me of our golden gates here in the great USA. They are also known as McDonald's😆😆

You live in a very nice neigbourhood. We would call it it PL - fajne blokowisko, which means a nice area of apartment buildings 🙂.
Thank you! I tried to show it in the most beautiful way :)) Blokowisko sounds very familiar :)
@@kyivdreamer Blokowiska are in PL, and I think, also in UA, aprecciated not for archiceture but for urban planning - everything is near: kindergartens, schools, shops, health service etc. The only thing missing is parking space...
@@krzysztofj1993 Exactly! You are completely right! We call these areas “sleeping areas”. Meaning people sleep there, but for work, for entertainment they go the city center :)
@@kyivdreamer We call them "sypialnia" but they are much more liveable areas than new developments 🙂. It is changing - these areas used to have not much of cultural or enterntainment options but now you can enjoy almost everything close to your home.
@@krzysztofj1993That’s a new word for me, thank you for an interesting explanation! 🙂
Please keep your movies short. If I see a movie that is 20+ minutes I, most often, skip it due to lack of time.

Olga, did you specialize in foreign language studies in school? I am impressed with people who can pick up other languages so quickly. Polish German Dutch and French AND you are a fluent English speaker!! Well done. I've got pages and pages of Ukrainian words written down, on some snowy day I'll go through them and see if I can remember the pronunciation. Don't deprive yourself of your well earned sweet treats. There is a French pastry shop in my town of 65,000, I'm there on a weekly basis.
No, in school I studied English only, but then, when I was 18, I started learning Polish, then French, then German, then Dutch. I always went or to private foreign languages school, or to private teachers. I studied Polish because I thought I would move to Poland but it never happened. And the rest of the languages I studied just because I liked the sound when I heard them abroad :) You do a great job learning Ukrainian, it's not easy at all! Don't stop please! Regarding sweets, you are right, going to these boulangeries and tasting something nice, it's like a relaxing tradition, I don't think I need to stop :)
purchasier pain de sucre maise (Pandy Maze) , c'est tres bonne!
Merci ! Je crois que je n'en ai jamais goûté :)
Honestly, Olga, I'd like to know where to get a nice borsch. Or, I guess some say borscht.
Got you! Will consider it as an idea for the next videos! See, the thing is, the most delicious borscht I eat is the one I have at home, I don't eat it at the Kyiv cafes. But for the city guests I should make this guide, you are right! :))
What do you do for work, if you don't mind me asking? You seem to have a knack for video editing, cultural stuff, bgm choice always tasteful, everything is done professionally, seems like you already got experience in the film industry or something. Anyway you got all the right potentials, keep at it and your channel will blow up in no time, regards!
That's one of the most inspiring comments which I've ever received here, thank you so much! I work as a Communications Specialist right now, before worked for many years as a copywriter/translator/content manager/marketing assistant. I guess I can say I always worked with content creation but not video one at all. Photos - yes, sometimes. But video was always something that I did only for Instagram Reels. But there they are so short, I don't feel enough freedom there. And I love love love choosing background music, making clips from the beauty I see, sharing the feeling, telling stories, showing my beautiful city... I think TH-cam is perfect for that. Thank you once again for your support, that's such a great motivation for me to continue!
It seems many young Ukrainians are good at making and editing videos. My old brain doesn't know where to start.
@@hovanti Oh no, please don't say that! It's not about age, I believe it's about your feeling, just follow it when you record. And editing is just practice. With each new video, it becomes more smooth.
@@kyivdreamer No problem, I enjoy watching your new uploads, even though you say you are just an amateur, they are all very well done and inspiring to watch, especially coming from a war-torn country, your spirit to carry on everyday and find solace and beauty in such horrible situation is truly admirable. Keep it up, I look forward to more of your content in the future!
@@jscotty349 Wow, what you say really gives me a lot of motivation, thank you! I really want to share some light and hope with these clips. I was always inspired by my city but now even more. And I feel sad that on TH-cam there is not so much content about Kyiv and its beauty. News, of course. But also, I would love people to see more about our culture, our architecture, our daily life, our values, our spirit. I know I have a lot to work on in these videos but I am happy I began at some place. And comments like yours help me to continue, thank you so much!
Thank you for this vlog. You have inspiring and creative ideas, but honestly today when I was outside. I was mainly concentrating on not falling on the fresh snow cover.
Thank you for this inspiring comment! Please, be careful when walking! :) In Kyiv, we don't have snow, but it's negative 5 degrees Celsius, and also slippery at some places.
Це насправді чарівна місцина. Скільки робочих ранків там пробігано свого часу!
В мене назаважди та сама асоціація! Саме в той час я свідомо відкрила для себе красу цих місцин, і до сьогодні гуляю там постійно, ех :)

Hi Tares. I've seen you in some of the TH-cam channels. Concerning one channel in particular, I just want you to know, in case it may be of use to you, that if you are giving women any money, don't do it expecting anything in return. Take this from a guy who paid the price, so that you don't have to. If you give expecting something in return, they will take all that they can take, give back nothing, and then hate you for it. Knowledge shared is knowledge multiplied.
Just awesome 👍👍👍
