Mountain Springs Lake, Fairmont Township, Pa Tribute
This is a 5 minute tribute to a Dam in Pennsylvania that is well over 100 years old, Tribute created Oct 20, 2012. "Authorities" suddenly decided that it's dangerous and not used so they drained and will soon Breach the Dam. Don't know where they get "it's not used" since there are just about 300 people at this time who frequently visit it and like it on Facebook that are all upset to see it go.

Great video. I have hiked there many times. It was a wonderful place that should have been left alone. It just makes me sad now when I go there.

It's gone now. I was out there during a Search and Rescue assignment, we drove right across the remains. Used to be able to go across the railroad bridge between Ice Dam 1 and 2, but that was wiped out in 2011. Had to winch our "Rescue Ranger" across. Looks like a muddy field with a tiny stream. We used that lake for water for forest fires, the ice for ice rescue training, many searches had their command post there. It was so beautiful, I was standing on the dam once, waiting for sunset to get a perfect shot, and the fish commission even waited to watch, before fining me $25 for standing on the dam. It was worth it, he agreed, but rules are rules.

Me and my friends still go up there and enjoy it. Every so often people try and dam it back up by blocking the main pipe underneath it...

I live very close to that, it is a shame. I always used to hunt, fish, and snowmobile there. If the Pa government has a chance to deprive their citizens of something good, they will. They have not even repaired snowmobile trails in several years. Even if the dam did blow out, it is in the middle of nowhere and it would not hurt a thing. Mountain springs had a great history. My great grandfather used to work up there on the ice fields. But it is now ruined like everything else in Pa.

I am appalled by what is happening to this beautiful landmark. Its very upsetting my 1 year old son will not get to experience the beauty of the lake, the dam, taking walks around it, watching wildlife fly around it... I saw my first bear here, probably my first deer too.. I was younger than I can remember and just being there reminded me of all of the good times I had with my father. I cried when I saw this video and I hope so badly there is something we can do to save it.
