This is too slow and 'gentle'. It is like having an E-Type Jaguar and never getting out of second gear.

Excellent stuff! Definitely one of the main Magma's inspirations.
This is a 100th anniversary performance of Stravinsky's first version of Les Noces, which was scored for singers and chamber orchestra and completed in short score in 1917 but never performed by Diaghilev's company. (I'm not sure this version was ever performed in Stravinsky's lifetime.) Symphonic Choral Cappella "Yaroslavia" (Vladimir Kontaryov, director) State Academic Symphonic Cappella Valery Polyansky, conductor soloists: Marianna Asvoynova, soprano Lyudmila Kuznetsova, mezzo-soprano Maksim Sazhin, tenor Ruslan Rozyev, bass Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Moscow, 3 October 2017

Stunning. Electrifying. I finally was able figure out that it is Valery Polyansky conducting, from the little I could understand the Russian announcer at the beginning and even less from the Russian inscriptions, so my guess from his past work on cd's is that this is a Moscow performance from 2017 involving maybe the Russian State "A Capella" Symphony Orchestra and some amalgamated choruses. So rare to hear no less see a performance of this work with an orchestra and the powerful mixed choirs, and so magnificently sung by the soloists. The choral forces and especially the soloists to my ear have just the right balance -- such straight-out strong voices with that nearly impossible (and so rarely heard) combination of Slavic rawness yet artistic control, and that unforgettable basso Rosliev adding such a delightfully earthy comic touch. Marianna Asvoynova's voice is as close to arrow perfect for this soprano part as I can imagine: always strong and striking, never ragged or abrasive. I have not heard and never expected to hear such an enchanting performance of this music after the 1964 Czech recording in Prague conducted by Karel Ancerl. This is a work in which Stravinsky, not so long after "Le Sacre," started what almost amounts to a another whole new genre in music, quasi-primitive chorale-percussive drama, and then virtually abandoned it, not to be taken up to any major degree until Carl Orff came along later in the 20th century. (Though I'm not sure either Orff or Stravinsky would acknowledge this.) It's amazing to me that this benchmark 2017 Russian performance is not in the forefront and almost seems scarcely noticed. This is the only performance of "Les Noces" (Svadebka) on You Tube which to my taste is properly synced, professionally executed and appropriate to what in my humble opinion is the essential savage/splendid ambience and uniquely Russian character of the piece. I love the interwoven rhythmic emphases Polyansky projects into this performance, yet such sensitive pacing at the very end with its absolutely spellbinding "chime." It sent shivers down my spine and tears into my eyes. Bravo! And many thanks.
This comment is obviously old but I’m curious what would you think of currentzis version.
