Peacock's Feather, Norman Blake Style on a 1920s Larson Brothers Maurer Auditorium Guitar
มุมมอง 2.3K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Playing the simple but beautiful tune "Peacock's Feather" in the style of Norman Blake. The guitar is a Larson Brothers Maurer 15" auditorium instrument from the 20s or 30s. It is the best sounding guitar I have ever played. There is nothing like a Larson Brothers guitar!
"The Arkansas Traveler" Norman Blake Style on a 1939 d-18

"The Arkansas Traveler," Norman Blake style on my 1939 D-18. The Apple Photo Booth/imovie setup doesn't capture its tone very well, sorry. That's a picture at the end of the clip of my hero Norman Blake and myself after one of his shows in 2004. Yahooooo!

Poor Boy Long Way From Home Improvisations on a 1921 Martin 0-21
มุมมอง 1.2K12 ปีที่แล้ว
Some improvisations using drop D tuning, sort of in the John Fahey style. I'm playing a 1921 Martin 0-21 guitar with extra light D'Addario Phosphor Bronze strings that are pretty old.
My version of "The Minstrel Boy to the War Has Gone/The Ash Grove" by Norman Blake

From the album Whiskey Before Breakfast. Norman Blake played this tune on a 1934 Martin D-18. Here I play my 1939 Martin D-18.

A panoramic view from the top of the Fette Farm. I wouldn't rather be anyplace else in the world.

Ryan's first trip into the woods. Two neighbor dogs came to run us off at one point, but good ol' Flo held her ground.

Norman and Nancy Blake "Elzic's Farewell"
While I am and will always be an admiring student of Norman Blake; I am also thrilled to see the camera showing the formidable right hand of Nancy Blake in this recording.
Norman has such a distinctive and driving style, getting the most out of each string with those dancing fretting fingers.
That tune is wickedly crooked. Switching to waltz timing might be the most badass thing ive ever heard in a fiddle tune
Master musicians at work! Beautiful <3
Norman plays a pretty good harmonica. That guy can play anything.
Thanks for this!
This is a really cool song Learned it the first day I heard it 😅
So have you ever had a chance to meet Brad Clark civilly since he put this hit on you and thank him for the concussion?
Norman and Nancy are special.❤😊😊
When Jimmy did this I loved the Uke.🦇
I’ve learnt the tune then I tried to play it at speed…I’ve never had the pick try fly away from me but I’m new to bluegrass😂
This is incredible.

Like something from a future we haven’t seen yet in the past…percussion revolvers, hot air balloons, the internet and iced coffee
listening to this is like looking at the stars in the galaxy
The way they play together is magical and the way they look at each other is very sweet.
Love love it...
Only 2 others nearly this good. Doc and Tony.
she'll be comin round the planet when she comes
The sound of the Martin guitar sure is beautiful
He is a master player. I've always admired him and Nancy.
Wonderful.
Listening to this gives me hope for humanity..
It doesn't get better.
AWESOME, AWESOME!!!!!
absolute masterpiece for all time
"Nineteen and twenty-nine" - love the way he speaks!
her attire
Agreed
💟
WOW
Thank you for helpin to make this crazy world a better place thru music
☮️
I certainly respect their right to sing the song their way, and they play really well and everything, but without the yodeling this song just sounds wrong to my ear. Sorry!
Love this, the dynamics. The rhythm played in the lower register sounds mean on that old small body guitar. Nancy at 4.01mins🤘
Channelling Pete Townshend. Mini windmill!
Elzic's Farewell. A truly hauntingly beautiful tune. Try as I might, I have yet to figure this one out for a mandolin version. I get back to it as often as I can, slow it way down to mess with it by ear. Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, can pick it like Norman Blake!! Truly outstanding.
There is a tab online though can't post links on YT. Go to 'Kim and Mike on the road' (all one word) I'm fairly certain there is a mandolin tab for this
I think I'd like to try a mandolin version of this tune, "New Money", learnt by ear, of course. Great old tune, I think. Right up there with their Old Hollow Poplar.
These old instruments in the hands of these masters will live on well past the days of their owners. Norman's guitar was made right around the year he was born. Live a long and prosperous live, you two. Music like this will never go away, thankfully.
I'd like to hear Norman and Nancy play a mandolin / guitar version of this tune. Nancy could play lead on mando and it would not break my heart except in a good way. These two are national treasures, for sure.
Amazing version of New Money
Like butter
Oh, yeah.
Wonderful. Lots of lamps in the dear old southern home.
Can't get enough!
Is there any place on the internet to find the whole tape?
Always sounds best alone like this
Heart the love shining out of their music...
Excellent relaxed guitar playing with a great expression
