Why do we have to"grow the game"????? Like it some sort of religious mission. All it means is exorbitant joining fees, massive waiting lists and rammed out courses. We need to shrink the game!

Typically you could see the value in “growing the game” in 2 main ways. Firstly, a game we love and enjoy. It would be nice for more people to experience that enjoyment? Sort of a nice way to go through life really when you think about. You find something you like, you tell other people about it. They in turn like it and… well before you can even open the bible and turn to the bit in the Old Testament about getting more people into golf, you’ve grown the game. So yea, general humanity is a pretty solid reason to grow the game. Then you move on to the economic reasons to grow the game. There are quite a few in this category, more than any sane person is willing to spend their time listing in response to a comment on TH-cam. So let’s keep it simple and say more people = bigger market = increased opportunity for investment. Now investment can turn up in lots of ways. Maybe golf reaches communities previously shut off to the game due to economic reasons. Maybe people who own courses see the value return in keeping it as a golf course and not selling it for houses. Maybe the bigger the game grows, the more opportunities there are for people to earn money working in the game. Maybe we can pay our green staff more, invest in the courses. Maybe more customers means there are business incentive for brands to find ways to lower the costs on equipment etc Anyway, that’s just one view. Grow it, shrink it, bop it, pull it. Whichever way it ends up, I’m pretty sure the OB of this world will be on the right side of it!

Talking about aiming at a target, many years ago, I was with Bernard Gallacher on a simulator at a conference. He said “not sure how you got me on this thing I don’t like them as they are not accurate, the guy who owned the sim said ‘they are very accurate’. Bernard said can you set it up for the 17th at TPC 178 yards, sim guys says sure, why? Bernard says, I’ll hit 6 iron. sim guy sets it up, Bernard says “ I will fade this one, knocks it stiff, draw this one, knocks it stiff, this one is straight, knocks it stiff”, Bernard says, okay this machine is accurate, i was amazed that he calibrated it on his swing. Trey will love the trust a fellow pro has in his own ability.

Great video guys, Ric is an interesting and inspirational man. Just a thought, golf doesn’t have to be expensive to try. I purchased my first clubs from a jumble sale, they were old steel clubs with plastic covers to make them look like hickory, Paid 50p, i went to a field and bashed balls for hours on end, didn’t have lessons, just experimented to make different shots, tried to hit over trees, aimed at targets i set up. A neighbour saw me and he was a members of a club, after speaking with my parents he got me a junior membership which was £7 per year (1969) so shed loads for me, as i earned 50p per week as a Saturday boy in a butchers. But hey, football boots were more expensive than my clubs. I did get to Suningdale as i told you previously, only comprehensive school in the Aer Lingus school boys. As with all sports, make the most of what you have, and most of all enjoy!!

Hi Guys, great initiative. In 1970, 3 pals and myself persuaded our sports master in a London overspill school to enter us into the Aer Lingus school boy national event. Our parents helped us mark out a small driving range in the school field, we practised hard. I knew a local club professional, he lived near me, he was intrigued, so came up and gave us lessons. We. Qualified for the national finals in regional qualifying at The Neville Tunbridge Wells, and low and behold final at Sunningdale. Only comprehensive school entered and we made the final, there were private school masters asking their players how they let us council house kids beat them. I still have the newspaper cuttings, and my extended family still talk about the pride that South London kids took it to Etonians and other private schools. Unfortunately, things haven’t changed much in 50 years, lets hope this initiative is the catalyst

Turns his right clavicle thru towards the target and that is key. Obviously he has learned to play on frozen ground. And, when the surface is slippery you have to press down squarely on the ground with the left foot, thru the shot, to maintain balance. And, that has to be a shoe manufactures dream. It is exactly what the shoes are designed do, to use the ground force.

The ball striking and driving at Augusta was different class. Only Scheffler came close in that respect. Already a superstar, just needs a tiny little improvement around the greens and he's complete. Immense talent! Edit: The swing actually reminds me of Steve Stricker, just amped up. Very little can go wrong.
