Thank you for this video. I been trying to decide on a mic for about 2 months. I want something in the studio that is versatile and this looks like it. I have a D6 and use it live. I almost bought a second one for the studio but I really don’t want 2 of the same mic lol. Looks like I get lots of mics in one with the V kick.
I am Iron Man. Sorry had to do it.
Definitely the Beta he didnt have positioned right for its full Potential the 91 was ok the rest were Lousy.
That's the best kick drum mic comparison I've seen, and I've seen a lot. It will be my benchmark when I eventually record my mic comparisons. Also, thanks for showing the not so popular V-Kick, the sound and versatility are impressive on this one!
very helpful thanks!
V Kick can almost do the D6 sound plus other 3 variations...
I have SHURE Beta 91A and SHURE Beta 52a. SHURE Beta 91A for the KICK - IN, to get that click and attack SHURE Beta 52a for the KICK - OUT, to get the "WOOF" and low end. Mix them all together and you get a thick solid kick sound.
No noto la diferencia
Man, the Beta 52A sounds all muffled. Totally considering another one of these mics
SE V kick and Audix D6 are winners here IMO. Working live sound those 2 mics slay it every time.
Se I'm impressed !
Great, thank you for that zero fat content 🙏🏻
Best comparison I’ve seen. Not long intro , straight to the point. Great bro
D6 🔥🎙️🔥
I had the same problem with the shure beta 91a too much high end clack. I like thebshure beta 52a performed or the audix.
Amazing comparison video!👏 👏 👏 Just wondering, when you said classic/modern... Which switch was in modern, and which was in classic?
Thanks ! I did both combinations. The order on the screen corresponds to the positions of the switches on the mic when you look at them.
Ok I might get a 91a too. Its giving the click where my 52a gives the boom. Add a Subkick or LowFreq for over all low depth and you got a killer setup. You could even add a tube mic for extra warmth.
Where the D6 makes it’s money is how little bleed makes it through
Almost perfect comparison video! What could also be nice to hear was what the mics sounds like when a bass amp and a guitar amp is playing loud next to the drum set. Which microphone is the best choice when playing live on stage?
I know this is an older video about kick mics but man, love your snare tone.
Really nice sound nice demo bro, Cheer!
Thx dude !
Very impressed with the V-Kick. I've used a D6 for the longest time, coupled with a 91a (live). Beta52a has always been my least favourite kick mic. Decent on Bass cabs though.
I know it's subjective, but I cannot stand the Beta series. They all sound so boxy. I enjoy the D6 and sE's EQ
I appreciate the fact that you edged us constantly with the reach for the cymbal over and over
Great video and playing. Thank you for being so succinct
Wow... Never realized how much my Beta 52a sucks... I think the Shure 91a capturing attack in combo with the Audix D6 bringing that punch would be perfect!
I have the full set of these SE mics. They are super tasty! Oooohh yuuurr!
You lucky guy ! :)
Seem like D6 has some internal gate or something like this.. Which one is your favourite?
Great video and playing! Thank you.
Love that midrange dip on the D6.
This is how you do a mic-comparison. Thank you.
91
Straight to the point!! And you can clearly hear what’s happening. Thank you.
I’m super impressed with the sE v kick. The classic/classic setting is really close to the 52a the classic/modern sounded similar to the 91a and the modern/modern sounded like the d6. It’s literally like 3 kick mics in one
91a and the sE V-Kick on classic/modern is exactly the kick sound I'm trying to go for
Where was the placement of the mics?
See description 😉
I’m loving the beta 91a! I am still a massive for of the D6 on most kicks though
For the 91 did you have the switch set to flat or pre-EQ? I've heard people saying if you set it to Pre-EQ you can almost use it without any additional EQ and get a great live sound.
It was flat, for the recordings I prefer to have the cleanest track possible :)
Big practical advantage of the 91A is that you can suspend it inside the base drum with 4 bungee straps, and put the cord through the air port of the shell, and have an internally mounted kick mic while not having to have a port hole on your bass drum. So if you still like that modern clicky live drum sound but want a nice full looking non-ported kick head for your band's logo or something or a really clean look, you can have both.
It depends on the genre being played but I do love a 91a on a kick. Great comparison video.
D6 and sE vkick win
For no particular reason I present to you, 'An Analysis of the first 28 seconds' - Subtitle: The count at which that he looks at the crash, for each mic. (Because procrastinating more important tasks...) Shure Beta 91a: And of Three (3&) Shure Beta 52a: And of Four (4&) sE V-Kick (i): Four (4)** sE V-Kick (ii): Four (4) sE V-Kick (iii): Four (4) sE V-Kick (iv): And of Three (3&) Audix D6: And of Three (quick) 3& .... or 3a (if a was a triplet a: "Three a let, four a let, etc etc) ** He blinked before he hit the cymbal. Only on that take... Take what you will from this.
You're a hero dude 🤣
Audix d6 excelente
You had me at no talking. Am I the only one that liked the beta 91a up until the dblkick/china part? It sounded meh there imo. How does the beta 91a get placed inside the kick? When you say "Room" on screen, that means just the room mic as listed in the comments right? Or was that the full kit mic'ed?
Hi ! Full room = all the mics, including room mics. The beta91 was on a towel at 5-6cm from the batter head.
@@drummersdenproduction1926 thanks!
Wanna pick up the Se Arena . The kick stands right out + you can play around with the sound settings.
When he's about to hit the crash and it gets cut... feels like a prank.
Can i hang some of this mics on my BASS Box ?? Im tryin not to use mic stand.Does it work, please ?? THANKYOU
This is a great shootout for these mics. I wish they were all done in this format. 🤘
Now, THAT is how you do a mic comparison! To the point. Short clips back to back. No goddamn talking. I was surprised at the results because I was expecting the Beta52 to sound much fuller but this speaks to the importance of context and mic placement. Just because a mic works on a given instrument on a given day in a given space for a given song doesn't mean it will work in some other set of circumstances.
91a is trash, 52a is better.
