The worldwide hype for this New Year's Eve was unbelievable.
The energy level was much higher back then, people dancing, yelling, waving, etc. Nowadays people just stand there and watch the ball drop like they're bored
You’re right. It’s because they have been there since the morning. The security zones are now blocks away from Times Square and the ball drop. They keep getting pushed out further-and-further every year. It’s like going to a sporting event. Pre-9/11, you could wake up from a nap at 11:00pm, go downstairs from your apartment, walk a block, and get right in with the crowd and move freely. It’s not like that anymore, and again, hasn’t been like that for decades. It’s sad. Times Square used to be fun and doable, even last minute. Now you have to get there in the morning and you’re penned in the same general area all day. That’s why the crowd always seems so miserable and lifeless as compared to pre-9/11 times. They’re tired, freezing, and are pissing on themselves in adult diapers. It’s just not the same. It’s miserable now.
I deeply miss this era, I was 1 years old when this happened. After 2016 everything is a disaster 😔

The supposed “elite” knew what they were gonna do to us. Having them play a song like that is how they rub it in our faces. They knew all the good was about to go away. After 9/11, society has gotten more and more restrictive and will never be the same.

Part of me feels jealous to have not seen the year 2000. But at the same time, I'm glad. Because I would probably die from excitement. And I would also be scared of the Y2K bug.
I was 10 and about to turn 11, when we entered year 2000. It’s amazing what the world has gone through, since the beginning of the new millennium. If I could go back to 12-31-1999, I would have warned everyone what the future was going to be like.

MTV’s coverage of New Year’s Eve was seriously next level. They started at like 4:00pm and went until like 2:30am. Fun fact, now they film the CBS Morning Show in this previous TRL studio. MTV has been out of there since 2009. Sorry if that made anyone feel old.
