Flint is likely from a flintlock musket. There was heavy use of flints and likely need for replacement frequently. The flints for muskets were often from quarries and would be struck off a larger piece by an iron hammer. Another possibility would be from flint and iron or steel for making fire. Prehistoric, or Neolithic flint usually would be from a biface, struck off a core from a rock hammer, with indications of flaking and possibly pressure flaking.

My ancestors McPherson was a piper at Culloden . He escaped to Skye and then Northern Ireland he would have been in Cluny's Brigade and therefore spared battle. This was passed down in my family and I research it through Ancestors. This is no claim to fame since all the highlanders were press ganged into the battle !

Why is it called a battle? The duke of Cumberland and his troops were involved in a massacre. Canon and musket against pistol and sword! He also declared "No Quarter" to those still alive. That means no survivors. I consider Culloden as a graveyard and be treated with respect for the dead.
