Real time short cruise in Autumn sunshine.
We thought that after all the "antics" & near misses through the summer you might like something a little more relaxing; so here it is.
Put your feet up with your favourite beverage (alcoholic or non) & spend a few minutes cruising in the autumn sunshine with us.
If you enjoy our vlogs & want to contribute by buying us a coffee here's the link; www.buymeacoffee.com/NarrowboatSpudley
but there is absolutely no pressure to do so. However it would be lovely if you would leave a comment below, like & subscribe to the channel (it's totally free of charge) as by doing these things it helps us grow the channel.
Thanks very much.

Great video, my friend. May I ask, is Elliot expensive? - my partner and I are purchasing our first ever narrowboat from ABNB and have been tasked with finding a surveyor. It's a mine field... 🫨 Thanks Kindly.
@@comfywomfy hi & thanks for watching & commenting. Elliot is excellent. I believe his price does depend on the type of boat, length etc but we’ve used him 3 times now & in total with the lift out of the water which is charged by the marina/wharf etc that can vary between 250-£400 the total was in the region of £1000 which I believe is worth it for peace of mind. As you’ll have seen without Elliot we would likely have bought a boat that would have been very costly & would have taken a long time potentially to put right. You will find cheaper surveyors I’m sure but like many things in this life; you get what you pay for & with such an expensive item as a boat you need to get it right. Give him a call, he’s a thoroughly nice bloke & he will give you a price. BTW we got Spudley from ABNB & they were great too compared to the place we bought our first boat from.
@nbspudley Hi. Thanks so much for getting back to me and all the information you provided. I'm very grateful, mate. We got in contact with Elliot and he quoted us around £950 for our 59.6ft boat. We also got a quote from another surveyor called Barry Burnell - his was £850, I think. There's not much in it. We are going for a test drive tomorrow with the lovely folks at ABNB, and then we will make a decision about the surveyor. This video on Elliot was most helpful, my friend, so thanks again for making it. Stay safe, Mate. 🙏 Kind regards, Rhod

Isn’t it funny that something like this is now celebrated with fireworks? I was just having a conversation about this with my OH and remembering when we were kids that Halloween wasn’t really a big thing - we used to leave bread and milk out for the witches - buy Guy Fawkes night was a much bigger deal, and me and my friends would make a guy and go to the local shops to get a penny for the guy. We would have a bonfire and my mum would make jacket spuds on it. How things have changed. So much more commercialised now. Anyway, very interesting vlog. The old Manor House is stunning! ☺️
@@lesleym6952 thanks Lesley. Yes, we the same as you used to do penny for the guy etc. Halloween was nothing really in the 60s/70s/80s and it’s now a massive commercial thing all down to it being copied from the USA. The same goes for this prom rubbish these days - absolutely not a uk thing but simply copied from America for purely commercial purposes 💰
@ yeah, got the prom dress shopping next year 😩😂 Luckily with my older ones it wasn’t such a big deal 😁
Thanks. You both told the story beautifully.

I more or less grew up at Braunston Marina, my family bought a 20' wooden Dawncraft with an Evinrude Fisherman in 1967 (£600) there, then we progressed to the first built Nauticus in 1970 (£2000) my brother bought a aft cockpit Ormelite in 1972 (£2000) and we kept the boats at Braunston until my Dad sold the Nauticus in 1991. Most weekends in the 70's a flotilla of boats would go up to Napton Junction where the top lock cottage at Calcutt was derilict incidentally, and spend the weekend watching the sailing dinghy's racing on the reservoir, and us kids puttering around in our rowing boats with Seagull outboards. Many trips down to the Thames, up to Stoke Bruerne and Rugby but not much further a field sadly. My brothers old boat recently turned up on the Wey Navigation, and the young guy who bought it has been in touch with me about how to restore it. The Nauticus, no idea but it was unusual in that it had port holes set in the bow that we fitted. I now have my own Narrow boat at Thrupp on the South Oxford. So I have been on the canals and rivers for almost 60 years and still feel passionate about them and their preservation. I also spent part of my career project managing canal restoration on the Wilts & Berks, and worked on the Thames also. We all need to fight to preserve this unique heritage.
Wow! What a great story. 60 years on the cut - fabulous. I’m sure you’ll have many more stories to tell as well. You obviously love it - you can tell just from what you’ve written. Totally agree regarding the history & heritage - let’s hope crt are able to secure more funding otherwise things could decline very quickly. Hopefully our paths will cross at some point when we’re down your way as I’d love to hear some more. Take care Paul & thanks for watching & commenting. 👍🏻
Braunston is obviously one of your favourite places! It looks gorgeous, especially at night with the bell ringing. Nice to see an Australian native bird (the Black Swan) on the canal. That trek back to the boat with your groceries looked very tricky and narrow. You could lose your weekly shopping in the canal if you weren't careful!.
I was worried something would end up in the cut Neil. Fortunately it was all good. Thanks for watching & commenting - hope you & yours are well? We’re heading into winter now so I’m sure you’re looking forward to your summer in the next few weeks. Any plans / holidays?
Ryan had been a sweety and put my new gas bottle in my locker that day. I saw Lee and Izzy go by but didn't click until they were gone. I haven't seen the black Swan yet. Thanks for the mention, must catch up soon.

@@SharH2460 hi Sharon 👋. Thanks for watching & also commenting. Back in July we upgraded to iPhone 15 pro max & the zoom & picture quality is amazing. That’s what we use most of the time.
