A Productive Day Off | Life of A Resident Doctor
มุมมอง 2.2K2 ปีที่แล้ว
A productive day off in the life of a resident doctor! This was a Saturday I had off from residency. I try to be as productive as possible on my days off to catch up on errands, cross off my to-dos, and relax. It is really important to take a break and do the things you enjoy especially in residency. It is so easy to get burnt out, so try creating a routine that works for you. It may seem norma...
Why I Stopped Taking ANY notes or Going to Lectures in Medical School - Tips From a Resident Doctor
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I stopped going to lectures and taking notes in medical school. I spent all my time in college taking notes and did well, but that strategy did not work in medical school. I rebuilt a systematic way to learn new material and focused on understanding over memorizing. After graduating from medical school and now in an internal medicine residency, I can surely say that my new approach to studying ...

    What year were you when you made this video? I've read that Residents don't make a lot of money during residency, especially when you take all the necessary monthly expenses into account. Do you or any other mates have roommates?

    @The DO Chronicles how are the medical hierarchy relationships? Do attendings treat residents with respect? Or are they mean/ harsh/ treat them poorly? Thank you for your videos! I find them really helpful! 💯😁

    • @theDOchronicles

      From my personal experience, the hierarchal relationships are great. Attendings treat residents with respect and do lots of teaching, especially when you ask questions. No experiences with them treating any of us poorly.

      Honestly, I never had time to read any books. Harrison’s is obviously the core of IM, but way too dense. My program also gave us the MKSAP 18 & 19 books for free. I used those based on the rotation I was on. Otherwise, mainly used Qbanks like UWorld for ABIM

    Watching this video brings up so many emotions for me . About a year ago I was in a coma for 2 weeks everything was a blurry memories in my head. I woke up from the coma on my birthday exact same day august 14 I didn’t remember anything that happened to me I had a tube coming out of my mouth preventing me from speaking I couldn’t understand why words were not coming out my mouth. Then the nurse came into my room telling me the reason I couldn’t speak was being I had a tube coming out my mouth lol I didn’t even notice that. I wanted to communicate so bad but my Brian was allowing me from forming sentences people couldn’t understand what I was trying to tell them. Then I realized I had a big needle coming out my neck that was connected to my heart they had to shave some of my hair off from my head to connect a bunch of wires to the top of my head, after I woke up was when the work started I had to learn how to walk , form sentences together, I didn’t have the strength to even lift my head up or turn to my side . I just turned 32 the day I woke up from that coma. Now I realize that people like you nurse doctors anyone who helped me while I was in the hospital were angel from god put on this earth. I never forget about all the nurses and doctors that helped me I was in the hospital for 2years. Those nurse and doctors don’t even understand how much I appreciate them and I thank god every day when I wake up for putting all those angels in my life. I know for some of them it’s just a job but in my eyes they are so special to me. Thank you so much for your service sometime it’s just the small things that you help with have a big impact in someone else’s life. Thank you my friend my guardian Angel

    Hey man congrats. I'm thinking of taking mcat and applying to med school. Currently working as a PA. Have been a PA for about 7 years in internal medicine and then am currently in interventional cardiology. Kinda still young...31..any advice you have? I'm looking at DO schools also

    • @theDOchronicles
      @theDOchronicles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly, I’d say it depends on what specialty you’re interested in. If you’re thinking of primary care (IM, FM, Peds) I’d personally would stay in the PA field. No reason to take on so much debt only to end up doing similar things. Especially now with the direction healthcare is headed in. Seems like there will be more and more PAs and NPs who will be able to practice independently. This is already the case in many states. But, if you are thinking of sub-specializing or doing surgery etc. then the medical school route may be a better fit for you. It’s not like you can’t do those things as a PA though. So also depends on the level of independence and autonomy you want.

    • @rm-vm3hk
      @rm-vm3hk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@theDOchronicles Thanks for your reply. Honestly I wouldn't go back to do med school if I plan to do primary care. Your right best to just be PA then. I'm really interested in vascular surgery. That's why I asked. Lets see what the year brings. Continue to pump out videos it give me a perspective on how your life is.
