So realistic at the time. 45 years on - still realistic. I watched original series in 1970, and impressed then as now, as the acting was as first class as the set decorations, attention to detail was first class.

I love all the episodes but my favorites are with Lady Marjorie , the storyline would have been so different if she had not gone down on the Titanic.

...and the show never truly recovered from her loss. There was an emptiness that invaded 165 Eaton Place that couldn't be filled.

...I also wonder whether or not they'd filmed/aired the Titanic sequence by the time she asked to return. I have a sneaking suspicion they hadn't, but wanted to punish her for being so high handed. Nicola Pagett had also quit; they likely felt they needed to stem what might become a tide of unmanageable actors. If that's true, it was very short-sighted on the show's part. They should've realized the importance that Lady Marjorie held for the viewer. They cut off their nose to spite their face.

I completely agree with you! The show lost it's emotional center, it's warmth...Lady Marjorie was the noble strength that held the family together. Rachel Gurney must've felt so sorry that she'd let her pride move her to act so rashly, and leave the show...especially because she left for such ridiculous, unfounded reasons. It's a shame that at times, we can be so blinded by, and sure of our own narrow perception, when we're SO wrong. We can really be our own worst enemies...

That´s true. No one could have ever replaced Lady Marjorie. I liked the character of Virginia but to be honest I was not very fond of Hazel. Her character was somehow boring I think and I was glad when Virginia Hamilton aka Vicountess Bellamy "took over".

I have really nothing against the second wife of Mister Bellamy,but she can't for my opinion not compare with Lady Marjorie

Lady Marjorie Bellamy was the most important person in the whole series, no one cold ever replace her.. Her influence did not end with Titanic, it went on all the way to the end.
