I am a huge fan of fantasy board games and war games. So this channel is dedicated to all things like hero quest, dnd, games workshop, dark world, zombicide Black Plague and other fantasy based games. I will also be looking at white dwarf magazine as well and fighting fantasy books.

The minis don't appeal to me. But the cover art is solid
Not necessarily cheap, but still alternatives to WH40K... - Mutant Chronicles - Star Saga - Sedition Wars: Battle for Alabaster There's also something from Tehnolog, a long dead Russian company, that mixed "WH40K + Battletech" together, called "Z.O.D." if I remember right. The minis (soldiers, tanks, fighter jets, mechs, including buildings & ruins) are like you know from toy soldiers stuff, quality is cheap, but still kinda cool.
I have these, great stuff. too ahead of its time i think, prepainted ready to go figures with cards were all the rage only a few years later.
yes looks good and yes the kid go nuts me agen add some exsras not lot and ues guard stats and well ork stats and add the other set and have fun with it may be bling up guys do not lot of this that to minis may be bassing agen me but as is great one fore the kids youl shoot your eye out yes got do some bout the thing that you shoot think dice roles over ruber choking thing agen me may be cant think of some thing but big supper balls to throw at other side just a think nest vid
well loook ok might be fun hek if like just add guard minis and SPM dreds and some bugs that look like ones in this game and do biger not lot just to flesh out or bling up but thats me nest vid
Pretty cool, I second someone saying it’s very 2000AD. The smaller minis are really dope and it would be great to see them professionally painted. The not-dreadnought look terrible but I don’t really think it matters. The game seems to have more of the original 40K spirit than today’s Warhammer 40K lol
Ironically this was the game that got me into 40k as a kid albeit in a roundabout way, saw it in the Autumn & Winter 97/98 Argos book and thought it looked cool (totally missed the 40k 2nd Ed box set right next to it I guess), asked for it for Christmas 97, mum went into Argos to get it but they didn't have it, so she inquired in this random place on the highsteet called 'Games Workshop' to see if they had it! iirc the GW staff suggested she try Littlewoods 🤣 bless them, needless to say I didn't end up getting Havok for Christmas that year, but now being aware of GW, come christmas 98 I had the newly released 40k 3rd edition box set instead! the rest was history wasn't until 20 or so years later I found out the reason Havok was no where to be found at the time was because Bluebird Toys were out of business by Christmas 1997.
Can anyone remember a game (i think i got it from Index in Littlewoods) i believe it was based on the Warhammer old world archers knights etc, but instead of single bases it had big red bases that you could put a whole unit on? sure it came with a big plastic 5'x5' ish battle mat as well, around the early 90's
@@OwDoGaming-kx9jo battle masters 👍
@@dungeondan7119 so it was. Cheers me 🦆
Sounds like "Battle Masters" (here in Germany it was called "The Claymore Saga", with some changed lore, I think), but the bases are all green, if I remember right. Have it all here, got it a couple of years ago, it even has all the unused stickers perfectly preserved, though I never played it, because I have no one to play it with (Coronapocalypse), and it's kinda massive in size. It only fits on top of my double-sized bed, though only barely. I think I'll have to sell it.
Cool minis for the time
This just Warhammer 2nd edition it looks like with the cheap ass terrain
Haha, what's next, Robogear? :)
To me it’s like mom getting me “Barbarian Warrior “ instead of the He-Man figure I actually wanted.
Me: "Mom can we get Warhammer?" Mom: "We have Warhammer at home" The Warhammer..
I been remembering this box since the 1998, I was trying to find the name of the box. Thank you!
I had this years ago and have been trying to remember what it was called!
Not that bad...!👍👍
Still have a bunch of Havok minis from when I was a kid, never played it properly just loved mucking around with them, need to find a box like this and get some games in
Game looks like a nice gem, but sadly, the price is still fairly steep. 100 USD especially if it has to be shipped from the UK.
@@MarquisLeary34 sadly I didn’t take that into consideration when you live overseas! 😔
@@dungeondan7119 Ah well. I'll keep looking. I got lucky once with Space Crusade, so anything can happen :D
Still have this and load of figure that stand in lots of different games, have used the tanks iv got for rebel imperial guard, not sure I ever played it but cheap way of getting squads
The 3rd razor sculpt I believe was a greyish colour with there arms over there head. I had the pack when I was a kid
@@Magmaxyz funnily enough I have just picked up the pack of them off eBay. And yeah your right it is a grey colour 👍
@@dungeondan7119 awesome stuff, thanks for reminding me about this classic game
Omg I had some of these as a kid!
I think in '97 it was about £11 from argos, you could buy most of the other troops from Beaties. IRC the tanks, banshee and other vehicles you had to order from bluebird directly. I have half a dozen of troop kits I'm going to put them up on eBay at some point.
when you order warhammer on wish
@@windows95_de 😆
How... how in the name of holy heck and the 7 levels of damn hells is that any cheaper then Warhammer? Seriously... You know just how RARE Havok is to get hold of?.................. sure maybe you can download the rules for free but the minis? forget it! your vidio titles are so misleading. My god.... Havok thats an extreamly hold and short lived product. Whats next you going to say "vor enter the mailstorm" is cheap too!?
Holy crap! I have been trying to find out what these miniatures were called and what the hell they were from for years. I had this box when I was a young kid, many years before I knew anything about 40k. I didn't even realise or remember it was an actual tabletop game as I was way too young at the time of getting it for anything with numbers or 'complicated' rules. I really enjoyed the miniatures though and remember simply using them throughout my childhood as toys. I'm fairly confident that my time with them is one of the main reasons why I fell in love with 40k so quickly when I eventually discovered it and definitely why I love the old boxy castraferrum dreadnought. Thank you for uploading this, it has been driving my crazy every time I've randomly thought about it for...I don't even know how long.
@@Sevarrius glad to have helped 😊
I loved this when I were a lad! Wished they'd do a reissue.
I had this box set. Stupidly I gave it away when I got older though. I've seen it on ebay from time to time, and have been tempted to pick it up. On a side note, maybe consider using a tripod for you camera. The shaky-cam is quite distracting.
@@darthhall6187 I know what you mean that’s the trouble with using my phone!
I had that!! Scenery got used in Necromunda a lot.
Wow. I can just about remember this. I have no idea how, but I'm pretty sure I had this box set and remember those big mech models. I vaguely remember thinking the sculpts were no where near as good as GW stuff I was buying as a kid, but I still loved the concept. I can't remember playing it, but gonna read a PDF rulebook I found online now to see if it jogs anymore memories. Cheers for the video!
@@scathezombiestu thanks for watching and I’m glad it brought back some good memories 👍
🤢
I didn't know this existed, thank you for posting, it looks as cool as ....
Played quite a bit with my brother. Prefered it to 40k.
I still have the exact same set. Love the mechs in it.
I recognise this game 😁
That box art is totally rad! Very 2000AD.
They ran comic strip adverts in 2000AD at the time
I hate 2000D depressing defeatist degeneracy
Seeing this box unlocked a core memory.❤
Me too. Was gutted I couldn’t find models for it anywhere😢
This definitely looks interesting
I have a bit of Havok, even reviewed in way back when, and wrote an amended set of rules for them, turning it into squad activation rather than unit type activation The method of buying from Argos, basically a blind bag approach, was lousy I have the Banshee, maybe two, the mauler and the tank The dice are hits (explosion symbol) or blank. IIRC
I had an American Civil War game a bit like that in the 70s I guessed the next game, I have a fair bit of it
Havoc was what sent me into mini wargaming, had two of the box sets and bunch of the individual models bought from a toys r us. Great game, shame it came out just before bluebird folded and a bunch of the later plans never happened for it.
@@typheron yeah such a shame a lot of the models never got released!
Good stuff, I love Havok, have one of the tanks too.
I can imagine I would have loved this as a kid!
Looks like Colin Mac Neil did the box art. I would have loved this back in the day.
Literally just had to check my bloodquest comics to confirm this!
Looks like the rules are a simplified version of HG Wells' "Little Wars".
@@JPGotrokkits not heard of that before.
Looks pretty good. Even the artwork on the reminds me of early GW artwork. I just have a small issue with the game, 1) we will most likely not get the game or any expansions in South Africa (lot of places don’t ship to us) 2) will most likely not find any other players…
Great concept. Truly the cross-over between flinging marbles at your Airfix soldiers and 40K. 👍
It looks like Bob Naismith designed minis. He's great! He designed almost the whole SuperFigs line for me. Fun!
This honestly reminds me of me and family playing with plastic 35 and 72 scale plastic soldiers decades ago. I think I prefer the cardboard ground with plastic hills from the base game, as there are a ton more combinations you can put them in.
Omg used to have this game. Was brutal haha. Then you lose all the blaster pieces....
just had a kid and was wondering how to get him into 40k, this seems like a decent way to ease him in
@@brenxbux definitely 👍 my kids used to love playing it when they were younger.
My parents on the other hand always tried to educate us on financial stability
@@Donnirononon 40k compendium... and its not even the whole rules? Take it back and get a refund... Bloody rip off this hobby. Thats my childhood, must be nice having positive parents.
thanks for posting a review. wonder if the spells are new or the same ones from the classic elf quest pack. elven princess miniature and 1-2 elven werewolves would have been a nice touch. reminds me of classic heroquest where sir ragnar is to be represented with a chaos warrior
