Curators' Tour - HINDSIGHT: The Art of Looking Back
I loved this! I grew up with the angel on the table with the stars on her dress, my sister had her, but she just passed away. Thank you for sharing this 🎄⛄️🎁🦌🎅❄️
I’ve collected Christmas decorations since I could walk so thank you for this amazing history video.
I loved the 3D molded plastic sleighs and reindeer and other light up molded outdoor Christmas decorations of the 60’s. So much better than the cartoony blowups nowadays days, that look ridiculous when they are deflated during the day.
I'm jealous! Thanks for the wonderful tour.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this. At 64 years old, these decorations have been a big part of my life. I still have some examples from my childhood and have collected a number of others over the years. Everything looks so colorful and cheerful pulled together in your wonderful, extensive collection. Merry Christmas! 🎀✨🎄✨🎀
I'm glad it brought back some pleasant memories.
Thank you enjoyed watching this Christmas afternoon. You are a great narrator merry Christmas.
Thank you for the kind compliments. Merry Christmas!
I think the large 10 ft tall tree at the end is the prettiest Christmas tree I've ever seen. Fantastic job!
Thank you, in many ways we have always used that tree and room as our centerpiece of the display.
I grew up in the 1950s. We had some of these items. What wonderful nostalgia! Thanks for sharing!
We are happy it brought back memories!
Your collection is AMAZING!! Being born in 1951 I have some of these things from my Grandmother, Great-Aunts, and Mother. I display them year-round in an antique cabinet. At first I thought that your house was a museum, just for plastic Christmas!
So happy it brought back fond memories.
Absolutely Fantastic Video...Merry Christmas!!! Buon Natale !! 🎄🎅
Thank you!
Enjoyed your presentation! Never knew the glow in the dark existed! Amazing display of nostalgia!
Thank you. The glow in the dark icicles are still easily found in antique shops this time of year.
That was great! I remember many of the items growing up in the 1960’s. Others I collected as an adult. Thank you!
Thank you!
Thanks so much for this video. I've been collecting some of these items for the past 35 years. I learned so much more about my collection. I appreciate all the effort and hard work you put into the display. I get frustrated setting up 10 to 15 of my light- ups, ( tangled cords and burned out bulbs). I can imagine how much work you put into doing hundreds!!. 😅
Glad you enjoyed the video and information. I know exactly what you mean about the cords. We tried had to hide them all :-)
@@georgejohnson8715 George, do you implement no/low heat LED bulbs in most of your decorations? I use white Tru-Tones in all of mine that take C7 bulbs and it's been great knowing I am a zero risk of damaging them from here on out, especially the older Goodman vacuforms!
@@dwsheffer We did replace every light bulb that was inside a decoration with LEDs and on the '1960s tree, every lite decoration was with an LED. Everything that needed heat to work [twinklers, etc.] still used traditional C-7s.
Really marvelous collection and I love it all! Did see several items that I have in my collection. It is just such fun with all the colors! Thanks for the tour.
Glad you enjoyed the video,
Thank you. Love the history of vintage Christmas.

Glad you enjoyed it! If you live nearby come see it in person, there is more that did not make it onto the video.
@@georgejohnson8715 I wish I lived close. I'm in New Jersey! Ive learned so much from your video!!! I'm going to the golden glow christmas show this coming year ! Can't wait! Thank you again for explaining all the back stories!!!

Germany is the true Christmas homeland, origin of Christmas incent smokers, carvings, pyramids and nutcracker and Christmas toys: Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains), creator of the modern Santa Claus in red robe: 1863 by Thomas Nast of Landau City, origin of Christmas eve gifts: Wittenberg city (Luther), origin of Christmas tree decorations (Lauscha city), origin of Advent wreath and Christmas advent calendar: Hamburg city (J.H. Wichern), modern glowing Christmas star: Herrnhut city... and some of the best Christmas markets in Europe (Dresden and Nuremberg).
I have a couple of vintage varieties cards I have them in glass frames hanging on my wall as art.
And then there is Me: hello mr camera man can you zoom.into what he is pointing at.
Are you the author of the Pictorial Guide to Christmas Ornaments and Collectibles?
THE ORNAMENTS ARE GORGEOUS
27:00 I worked on some scagliola today (first time actually!) and I have a different theory to what they might have used, let me first share my anecdote: Since this was my first time actually trying to create scagliola, I created a simple 15x15cm tile. As I was finished I realised some little cracks that I seem to have not spotted earlier. I took some animal glue to work the gypsum into the crack but the animal glue re-liquified the very top layer and made the nice veins disappear! Result being a color very similar to one of the intermediate colors that I created for this tile anyways, but the point being: you could very likely use this to your advantage so that you only need the lightest and darkest shade of this hue and then blend accordingly. I would imagine you could use a brush for this, maybe they did it in circular motions, hence the shape. Thanks for sharing this presentation and greetings from Dresden!
I’m looking for Paulette Goddard’s dance dress in “Second Chorus” dancing with Astaire in “Ain’t Hep to the Step” Black and white, white satin lined shirt!
👍
Muchas gracias por este hermoso tour, preciosos objetos que adornaron las casas en ese tiempo.👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻🥰
Thank you!
Paper ornaments are the most valuable.
Yes, old paper decorations can be expensive.
😀A great collection of flower buttons. 💐🌸💮🌺🌻🌼🌹🏵😍
I really enjoyed seeing this collection and the narrative. Amazed that so many of these pieces survived considering the materials. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it. Other videos we've done are listed at the top of the 'replies' list.
Gracias por mostrar tesoros NAVIDEÑOS...... antigüos y preciosos... Bendiciones
Gracias por sus amables palabras. Feliz año nuevo.
Your video is so incredible, but belive or not the Spanish Madona that you made reference is the " Virgen de la Pastora" ( the Sheep Madona ) , and today the same day that I found your video it is her religious day in several countries of Sud America, principaly in Venezuela where more that two millon people goes to venerate the Madona!!!
Wonderful information! Thank you so much for sharing!
and yet more lies. It is not Jeannie's name on the Christmas Stocking, and she didn't put the J on the stocking backwards. you are inventing more lies to cover up what you stole from me. The name on the stocking is Leanne, as in Leanne Sweeney, the creep that helped my ex-husband steal my Social Security Widow's benefits, and kidnap me on Mason Lane, which was apparently owned by Palestinians? Yes. Leanne Sweeney's husband repairs ATM machines for banks, which is how they stole my money. Right, Mike Hill?
The millwork and crown molding are magnificent
We still use bubble lights from Noma on our tree each Christmas. It was neat to also see them on your tree!
Thank you. They were also on my childhood tree of the 1950s, in fact, that's how i got into collecting.
I enjoyed this video very much! Inspiring to create and delightful to remember back when. Thank you! Happy New Year 2024!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the video - Happy New Year to you and yours!
I wonder if you are aware of the high-end Cracker Box push pin kits. Kits can come with Swarovski crystals. Many kits cost well over $100. I have over 50 my mother crafted from their kits. Just an FYI.
Aware of this and a couple were on display, but did not know they were called Cracker Box push pin kits. Than you for the additional information, I'll check it out. You must have a wonderful collection of them!
I love your dedication !!!! Absolutely elegant 👏👏👏 Your Christmas vintage decorations is incredibly & beautiful ❤️ ❤️❤️❤️ Greetings from Chile.
Glad you enjoyed the display. it does take a lot of work and we are still in the process of taking it down and putting it away.
That's all astonishing. Thankyou for making such an interesting video. I used to design Christmas cards for a well-known firm. I'd have been so inspired by these displays! Well, I AM inspired all over again. Wonderful collections. All those paper pop-up are amazing.
I'm glad You found the video inspiring to you work as a designers.
